Mitoza

There is no reason for me to not recommend this game. None. Zero. Whatsoever. There’s no glitches. It runs fine. It’s got a very short run time but it’s free. It’s got meme references of various varieties and the game play is easy. It’s not even trying to be pretentious “art”. This is a clickable puzzle game much like those old Newground games where if we clicked around enough, we might get a jump scare or a cute surprise. This game provides us with neither but you do get a checklist of outcomes.

A toy as the dev calls it. It has weird and interesting animations. You start with a seed and you choose to pot it or feed it to a bird, the choices continue until you reach an end and repeat. The game lasts around 20-40mins with a mere 35mb to install. I managed to achieve majority of the animations through trial and error and the final with a guide.

The good point of the game is when you have already saw an animation you can skip it by clicking on it and when you find all the animations there nothing much else to see/do anymore. Fun time waster. Its worth being free.

This VN is brilliant.

Male or Female,, Female is Yuri.

Your selection at the beginning picks your path.

There are 3 or 4 House mates, well 3 or 4 and the Owner,(who you can also end up with),, sometimes a couple can pop up in other parts of stories that they are not part of the main story and live elsewhere. ie; I went in Jimmy’s and Jei was serving, though she was not in main story.

The stories are VERY good and, at times gripping, painful, sad, Happy. Some have ALL emotions through them.

From the cute and sweet Nuri to the Hyper fit and Hot Seola. The Smart but Daft Hyedong to the rough and Fun Jei,, The Prodigy Yeojeong to the Brooding Artists Chaeng. They all have stories and ALL are Love Options (In Yeojeong’s case you can end up with her sister Yuri), the Choice paths determine Who is in the Main story. Y is a very difficult person so I never did get on with her.

One Way To Die

One Way To Die

Short text based game with achievements and trading cards (not dropped, must be bought on market or through badge booster packs) that requires the lost art of reading and that even more ancient art of knowing the reference used for the pun or punchline. I personally nominate this character for a Darwin Award … now 131 times.

This might be free-to-play but the 0.99 cents (US) DLC is worth adding, and quite often on sale for 0.49 cents. 111 different ways to die (with DLC added), some bizarre, some funny, some absurb, some WTF, some STEAM related and all a reference or pun to something (even the page titles). With the 2015 Halloween update there are now 121 ways to die (The 10 Halloween related deaths give the achievement The Hallowest.) The developer added another 10 deaths for 2015 Christmas and claims this will be the last time. (The 10 Christmas related deaths give the achievement Crimson X-Mas). Note: Both of the holiday related deaths and corresponding achievements are only available during that particular holiday.

Every Monday I return home after a less than soothing weekend with family and take my grievances out on my boyfriend by javelining sharp, rough cascades of abnormally peculiar games in his face for the rest of the week. His is usually a face that only sees major titles and nothing else. So I keep picking up random games just as silly as this and as we sit together and play I feel joy in knowing that I’m introducing the surprising amount of fun (and pain) indie games, that wear their simple mechanics and bare graphics proudly like some trendy new quirky armour, can actually be. A lover of such wacky video games, a good deal of my allocated gaming time is spent playing glorious “abominations” on the likes of Game Jolt, itch.io and Desura. There is a difference between badly made games and games of an acquired taste that seem bad unless you know how to consume it. OWtD is like a free slab of English Blue Stilton cheese or Japanese Nattō at the supermarket. So I was dissapointed to see the reproach of less than happy reviews after the inital positive curiosity upon release. This game is a wonderful idea and fun to try out though it is useful to step into this game with a bucket full of greasy, troll humour ridden popcorn.

Fighting Fantasy Classics

Fighting Fantasy Classics

I don’t usually write reviews, but this game definitely deserves higher rating.

It targets a niche market; namely the (former) fans of the Fighting Fantasy books. Whether you just read them back in the days or still own them, there is so much joy in rereading them. This new digital format is more convenient than the original paper copies, without weakening the strong nostalgia you can experiment.

A lot of the bad reviews come from people discouraged by the arbitrary difficulty. It is true that more often than not, it is impossible to distinguish the path that will give you the key item from the one that will lure you into an unwinnable journey. But this was the well intended design of these stories, and despite the differences with current gaming standards, Tin Man Games made the right choice and kept faithful to the source material. I still find it exciting to start the whole story again, explore different places, make better choices, trying to find the missing items or crucial knowledge that I need… By the way some of the puzzles are still very good and require some thinking (the carved stone door in Bloodbones!). Difficult enough for a grown man who eats his vegetables.

And I deleted my long review, just as I was almost done. I really god dang hate then I lose all my work. Short version, I reccomend this product completely.

As of this time, I have only played the free offering, but it’s a faithful reproduction of the book, to the point where I feel that if the others are of this quality, don’t feel any need to get the physical books, as long as I have this as an option instead. It’s not the high end work of the Scorcery video game version, but this is very servicable, and true to the source material, which is all you need. Plus, I really appreciate that I can do up to 3 rerolls of the dice. I want high stats when making a character, dang it, so I appreciate not constantly restarting because of one bad roll.

Interactive Horror Stories

Interactive Horror Stories

Story-wise, it’s pretty decent. The game offers a variety of stories to read, and I am a fan of CYOAs. For the horror genre, it does an okay job. However, there are a couple issues I have with the game, keeping it from being a great game. There needs to be some serious proof-reading in all the stories. They are littered with mistakes. Then the lack of sound is odd, really odd. There are some random sound effects in the game that feels more jarring than fitting (just because it’s silent for the majority of the game). Why the dev chose not to add any boggles my mind.

Stories had quite interesting themes, I really enjoyed reading through all of the endings. They were a bit predictable since I watched too many horror movies but nonetheless I would reccomend it for any horror story lovers! It’s also free so why not give it a try If you are into the genre? I was also glad the experience mostly consisted of just text over an image (except the oujia board story) because It would be a lot more scary If It had jumpscares in the form of popping images according to the way the story had progressed. But It’s safe to say there’s none of that! The text alone is enough to creep anyone out especially If you are reading it at midnight like me haha

Road to Nowhere

Road to Nowhere

**Road to Nowhere tells the story of Cohle Bishop – a renowned introvert, and successful software developer – whose life is torn apart by scandal.

Can you help him find his way?**

AltspaceVR

AltspaceVR

AltspaceVR is one of my favourite VR applications, i’ve spent many hours on it watching YouTube videos with strangers, having lightsaber battles, eating marshmallows, dancing to live DJ parties and much more!

PROS :

  • A fairly big community (for a VR app) You’ll usually find people online at any time of the day.

  • Cross-platform support. You can meet people using the Gear VR, Google Daydream, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and even people without headsets playing in 2D mode.

  • People are very friendly. Even if you feel like someone is acting badly, you can simply mute or block them.

Used to be good till they removed everything the community liked. They used to have body tracking, a easily usable sdk, hand tracking, and a shared browser. So long as you agree with everything they do and have no opinion of your own you’ll be fine there, but if you express concern about something or question anything then you’ll be removed. Also, it behaves like spyware, writing out randomly titled files to places in the hard drive like C:\Windows\System32 and other such obscure places that aren’t easily user accessible for the sole purpose of tracking you after you’ve decided to uninstall it. They don’t do anything to protect user privacy. Any picture you upload doesn’t get exif data stripped out, so any image that gets uploaded that was taken with a phone will have the GPS coordinates attached and can be read by anyone. It’s trivially easy to get past their joke of security on their servers and get the e-mails and birth days of anyone with an account. When you tell them about their security holes and suggest things they can do better they deny that any security holes exist. They let known child predators go around grooming children and go so far as to threaten to ban the users trying to report them, with proof. All-in-all, if you’re looking for a platform where you can be surrounded by kids, threatened by staff, and get anything you try to do ripped off with no credit then this is the place for you.

Find Love or Die Trying

Find Love or Die Trying

I think most of the “Features” part of the description is misleading, not that I’m particularly upset about it, but saying this is probably the quickest way to explain what the game is like. The 4 hours of visual novel gameplay part is true, however there is only one real main storyline which spans the entire 4 hours, almost all choices converge within a few sentences or simply re-arrange the order of events.

The 7 unique endings are very short branches off the main storyline, and lets be real, there are only 6 unique endings unless you have a disgusting hatred of waifus, and 5 fewer than that if you aren’t a blind person reading a visual novel (Hint: it’s the first option of the 6 for a reason). As for the fourth point, all it means is the main character is kept fairly nondescript.

–-

While I recommend this VN due to two main factors: 1. it’s free, 2. it has many positive points: gorgeous art, good music, humor and interesting premise and plot, there’s a few things that really bothered me:

1. The lack of plot branching.

While it’s advertised that the game has 7 endings, only two choices leads to them: one that clearly leads to the bad ending and another one after that boils down to basically “which girl you liked the most?”. Other than that, all the other choices only change some optional scenes you see, which means that the entire thing is just a long common route. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the VN was advertised as a Kinetic Novel, but the implication of multiple endings (which imply, at least to me, in it having different routes) made it a real let down.

Ishmael

Ishmael

Ishmael was a weird experience, I’m still not sure how to feel about it.

First of all, I didn’t like writing, it wasn’t immersive for me at all. Tho English is very good, I didn’t notice any typos. The whole atmosphere seemed so distant, so alien. But then I actually thought that maybe it’s how it should be ‘cause the world described in the game really IS so foreign to me.

It’s the shortest novel I’ve ever played, just about 15 minutes long. We learn the story of a young Palestinian boy. The way children spend their free time playing outdoor games with just stones and sand wasn’t one bit gloomy for me. That’s practically how I spent my childhood growing in a Siberian village—playing snowballs, making snowmen, snow huts in winter, hopscotch or a great number of other games in summer. I actually believe, that time was great fun without computers, internet… But in the game the boy is bored. I didn’t feel related. Of course, when it’s war, occupation, death nearby it changes everything significantly.

a boring game with a very bautiful purpose.

i’d like to reward the purpose, ‘cause there is a deep meaning in this game, unfortunally, it’s not touching as it should be.

it’s actually pretty dull(even if short), it ’s just a glimpse of daily life for a child, used by the developer to make you understand how people see war, and how people are raised up to bacame soldier in middle easth.

Left on Read

Left on Read

Left on Read is a simple and interactive indie game that for those who have played ‘Emily is Away’, will feel as if they’re experiencing déjà vu in some parts. However, with this game, you’ll feel more fulfilled with the ending (if you know, you know).

A great way to kill an hour; you can’t go wrong with this one.

I wish you good luck and patience if you’re looking to complete realistic mode because surprise surprise, it’s realistic.
