NEW SCUFFED EPIC VISUAL NOVEL

NEW SCUFFED EPIC VISUAL NOVEL

This game saved my life.

I am 69.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiralling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand… my working hand… my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.

As someone who recently got addicted to visual novels, all I can say is… This is one hell of a fever dream.

The music was better than the game.

One Way To Die

One Way To Die

Short text based game with achievements and trading cards (not dropped, must be bought on market or through badge booster packs) that requires the lost art of reading and that even more ancient art of knowing the reference used for the pun or punchline. I personally nominate this character for a Darwin Award … now 131 times.

This might be free-to-play but the 0.99 cents (US) DLC is worth adding, and quite often on sale for 0.49 cents. 111 different ways to die (with DLC added), some bizarre, some funny, some absurb, some WTF, some STEAM related and all a reference or pun to something (even the page titles). With the 2015 Halloween update there are now 121 ways to die (The 10 Halloween related deaths give the achievement The Hallowest.) The developer added another 10 deaths for 2015 Christmas and claims this will be the last time. (The 10 Christmas related deaths give the achievement Crimson X-Mas). Note: Both of the holiday related deaths and corresponding achievements are only available during that particular holiday.

Every Monday I return home after a less than soothing weekend with family and take my grievances out on my boyfriend by javelining sharp, rough cascades of abnormally peculiar games in his face for the rest of the week. His is usually a face that only sees major titles and nothing else. So I keep picking up random games just as silly as this and as we sit together and play I feel joy in knowing that I’m introducing the surprising amount of fun (and pain) indie games, that wear their simple mechanics and bare graphics proudly like some trendy new quirky armour, can actually be. A lover of such wacky video games, a good deal of my allocated gaming time is spent playing glorious “abominations” on the likes of Game Jolt, itch.io and Desura. There is a difference between badly made games and games of an acquired taste that seem bad unless you know how to consume it. OWtD is like a free slab of English Blue Stilton cheese or Japanese Nattō at the supermarket. So I was dissapointed to see the reproach of less than happy reviews after the inital positive curiosity upon release. This game is a wonderful idea and fun to try out though it is useful to step into this game with a bucket full of greasy, troll humour ridden popcorn.

Pandemic Love

Pandemic Love

Just finished each path for each route, and I’ve loved this VN. Obviously the pandemic has been pretty shitty overall, but there’s a silver lining to everything, and I think that it’s so cool what’s changed as a result of it. With VNs, it’s fascinating to see new ones made about the pandemic, and it’s so interesting to see new approaches to VNs that wouldn’t have been possible before. I think Pandemic Love is a great example of that unique quality. I laughed, cried, grinned like an idiot at parts, and everything in between. Thank you, so much, to Red Skald for giving rise to this game! As somebody who wasn’t too hard-hit by the pandemic, it’s also a great wake-up call to, not just read in a news article, but actually play something that gives life to what happened in Bergamo, and other places like it. Overall, I’m glad as hell for this game.

Red Skald does it again.

It’s hard to believe that three years have already passed since first discovering the hidden gem “Find someone else” in the Steam visual novel library, but here we are. That is a game that moved me in unexpected ways, as someone who deals with chronic illness and death anxiety. So much has changed since then, but Pandemic Love feels like returning home in many ways. For one thing, the artwork, tone, and general vibe of both games is noticeably similar - though certainly not identical. It stands to reason that if you enjoyed the former, this is not one to miss.

Woodsalt

Woodsalt

I’m a fan of adventure games, and this didn’t disappoint me. Intriguing storyline and fun graphics. The mid section of the game allows you to explore and interact with the world on a daily timeline with new things to discover each day. I found this engrossing, getting to know the characters, the environments, and the challenges the society was facing. However, if your goal is primarily to complete a game quickly you would probably find this frustrating. The pace and excitement picked up in the latter stages as you closed in on whatever ending you gameplay had led you to. I spent 9 hours absorbed in the game from start to finish, and am now looking forward to starting afresh to see how different decisions will change the ending.

Target Audience: Those really open-minded with imagination and looking to help a small developer

Summary:

I’m not going to beat around the bush: Woodsalt has major structural problems from a story perspective, leading to a very uneven experience that unfortunately does not live up to its high price of admission. The sci-fi story does have a few characters that do an alright job of making you relate with them in the side stories, but an inconsistency in what time is spent with what characters and how they impact the main story ends up really making it suffer. Certain events don’t make sense in the big picture of the story, and it doesn’t help that the nature of the game’s one side versus another and playing both sides as being possibly right has a glaring weak spot that destroys that idea toward the mid-end of the game. Again though, it’s the inconsistencies of the events of the main plot that feel like they have big chunks missing that really makes the game’s story suffer here. You just don’t believe what’s happening in front of you, even with the sci-fi nature of the game. The characters, especially those like Gi, just make you wonder if conflicts were inserted for the sake of conflicts being needed.

Bard Harder!

Bard Harder!

We played this through on stream and had an excellent time - the first achievement was a struggle for us though since we won first time! :P

This game is absolutely wonderfully made and definitely deserves to cost more than it does. The art is beautiful, the music funky and the writing is great. Absolutely recommend for a couple of hours of fun!

pros:

 • funny

 • unexpected choices and lines sometimes

 • cool characters (especially the villain which has a great background)

 • easy to understand (I’m french and got everything)

 • not expensive

 • Queer vibes (ace, trans and bisexual representation, and for once people getting that ace =/= aro, that’s nice)

 • Plain flirt, so it’s not oversexualizing, it’s more romantic than sexual really

cns:

 • really short game

 • not a lot of choices, like you really can’t do much

 • if you wanna win, you basically just have to read all the villain’s story and have a good memory

GrandMa Badass - BUNDLES EPISODES

GrandMa Badass - BUNDLES EPISODES

-Disclaimer : Trying to stay neutral but I might be biased as I got the game for free and I helped a bit.

-GrandMa Badass is a small classical point and click adventure game that definitly got its inspiration from the old Lucas Art/Sierra games, there is a small Maniac Mansion /Day of the tentacle feeling to the characters and humor. GrandMa Badass is a 1 man project which is quite impressive to me, it feels as polished as the engine allows it to be.

Graphics : 7/10 I really really love his artstyle!

What a GrandMa ! This character gives you a feeling, that getting older can be fun …

GrandMa is not at all a shy, helpless and always charming elderly lady - she is prepared to teach everybody lessons with her cane !

Her story begins, when she misses her cat…where is he? We accompany her on her search and take part in her adventure - can’t wait to see more

Highly recommended!
