Over the Alps is a spy story that takes place as tensions escalate into World War II as told through a choose-your-adventure featuring choices that feature personality and character traits of your protagonist. The scenery is designed after postcards of the Swiss Alps and are remarkable. As any choose-your-adventure story goes, the writing is the most important, and playing through, you can tell that the story is crafted in detail and is quite funny to read through.

Pitch perfect: the writing reads like the best old adventure classic you’ve never read and manages to pack punch, warmth, humor, and pathos in short paragraphs and postcard-length mini-episodes. You’re never too long before you’re making a new choice or zipping to a new location. I haven’t enjoyed a game’s writing this much since 80 Days. Oh look! This came from some Inkle veterans. Makes sense.
The writing isn’t the only thing that’s pitch perfect. This game has a simple, great visual design that doesn’t hold your hand. Navigation is subtle and never distracts from the vintage poster style art: flocks of birds are used to indicate buildings you haven’t explored yet, a spinning compass tells you when it’s time to choose the next path on the map, etcetera.

Svoboda 1945: Liberation
Svoboda 1945: Liberation was created by Charles Games in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It blends fiction and historical accuracy and uses a diverse range of gameplay and storytelling techniques to recount experiences in Svoboda, a village near the Czech-German border during and after WWII.
The game includes historical documents, photographs, video footage and an encyclopedia that ground the stories in reality making the often harrowing accounts all the more emotive. In addition to the various real elements and factual information, the game also uses a mix of fictional aspects such as FMV video clips and conversations, explorable scenes, animated comic strips and mini-games to deliver the narratives.

Following the critical success of Attentat 1942, the developers continue to convey history in innovative and engaging methods. Integrating FMV interviews, minigames, comic-style scenes and an abundance of factual documents to read, the game was fascinating from start to finish.

Through the Darkest of Times is an immersive, story-driven game that gives you a first-person perspective of Germany slowly coming apart by the growing Nazi regime.
The gameplay is simple. You start as a tiny resistance movement whose ultimate goal is to reveal the truth of the Nazi government and to help those persecuted by them. Your group grows as you gather supporters, raise funds, gather resources, and recruit more members. Your members can also use their background, affiliation, and traits (Ex: Athletic communist baker, Social democratic lawyer) to their advantage by doing missions that favor their certain trait. In the meantime, you also have to watch your back carefully and to ensure your members heat doesn’t go too high, otherwise they might get a knock on their front door from the Gestapo and be arrested.

Through the Darkest of Times sees you play through the events of Hitler’s reign from the perspective of a small cell of political dissidents. These may be disgruntled trade unionists seeking to protect the people, or they may be religious conservatives looking to end the persecution of Jews. The gameplay segments are interspaced with visual-novel style narrative sections that see you interacting with scenes of police violence, book burnings and more.
The gameplay itself isn’t a novel invention, to the point that if you’ve played similar games about talent-management a tutorial is not needed. Each in game week you can assign your 5 resistance members to missions either alone or in groups with the core stats of these team members impacting their ability to succeed or limit the risk of failure. Some missions are ticking clocks that require immediate action, others will be goals to work towards as opportunities and resources come available. The balancing of the resources in my three hour play session does a good job of reinforcing the despair of being unable to combat the nazi regime on every front.

It’s a great game,i really love the characters and the music (oh man i can just let the game run in the background to listen to the menu music and chill out),the story is very interesting if i say so myself,also the gameplay was a bit confusing for me at the start but after learning it,it’s very fun,i’m looking forward to the full release.

It has a lot of promise.
I talked to the developer in the forums, and they’re actively working on making improvements according to their posts albeit I don’t know how steady they are or how consistent they are at actually updating the game and correcting underlying flaws, of which there are many.
It’s a lot like Factorio, but if it was simplified, put into a Visual Novel game that has surprisingly good writing, and given a vaguely predictable “economy” built around the war for shits and giggles.

Don’t let the simplicity fool you about this game. It’s actually a really fun game where you control all the cars in a time loop so you have to drive your car’s path to it’s destination smartly so the cars don’t collide. Great concept and soundtrack! This game is very enjoyable and worth you time.

Flight of the Amazon Queen: 25th Anniversary Edition
This is a classic adventure released in 1995, altough you not have to expect something like an RTX remaster in graphics, the improvements are noticeables and much appreciated compared to the old pixel graphic style.
As always, like in any graphic adventure, the main focus goes to the puzzles and i can say that here we have very good ones, the level of difficulty is average, with few spikes on hard on some of the latests, but most of them are quite logic.
Personally i don’t like the hot spots revealer function, because i think the pixel hunting is a part of the difficulty of an adventure so this will help a lot, but it seems is a new tendency of many modern adventure games now.

What a nostalgia! I played this game as a kid 25 years ago. I loved it then, I love it now. Some players seem to be way too much critical. Well, this is NOT a remake. This is a simple port of the ORIGINAL game for modern OS with some new features. It runs in full-HD with updated UI and it has full voice acting. But it still looks like the old classic adventure game. Nicely done.

Norman’s Great Illusion
Before reaching the first ending, I tried to explore the game as much as I could. However, almost the whole room is not related with the game. So why did the developer put the apartment structure draft here? Only the chairs and TV can be interacted with the character.
The mini-game sucks. The developer has explained, “…mini-game “On the work” reflects the stress that many people experience in their workplaces”. Excuse me, but games are not supposed to impress players by literally torturing people! Actually, the two mini games are the mandatory and indispensable parts of gameplay. From function point of view, they are not mini at all.

I originally posted a negative review of this game, however I went back to play it some more and have changed my mind on it.
My main gripe when I first played was that the working mini-game was too unforgiving. The game entails solving advanced maths sums while under a strict time limit and I really struggled with it. Upon replaying, I’ve realised that the point of the mini-game is to basically be impossible. You’re supposed to barely be able to scrape by in it because that’s what it’s like working a gruelling job in a society that doesn’t value you. The only way to “beat” the mini-game is by cheating and pausing the game to work out the sum in your own time. Just like in real life, the only way to succeed in capitalism is by cheating. Looking at the game as something that is to be “won” will ensure that you don’t enjoy it. You’re not supposed to succeed in the mini-game, you’re supposed to lose continuously.

You play as Vincent, an ex-sailor who started his stall with food and drink. People still need to eat during the war, and you can cook the best stew basically out of anything. To make things fancier, your second specialty is home-made booze. [And in times like these, people drink a lot.] It is unique not only because of its sheer alcoholic content but also in the way it is served. Most people will drink just as a straight shot, but AT YOUR PLACE they can mix it with cherry juice! Simple, but genius.
The biggest problem that interferes with your business is the Great War that has started a few months ago. So, your city is now occupied, the enemies are imposing their new order, and they don’t treat your people in a good way. But by some strange twist of fate, they do seem to like you and your services.
