The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™

The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™

Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings™.

He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.

While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum’s quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™ you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Use stealth, agility and cunning to survive and overcome what lies ahead. Climb, leap and grapple your way past dangers or into advantageous spots.

While Gollum might not be a fighter, it is not unlike him to assassinate a careless enemy when the chance presents itself – or dispose of them in more creative and villainous ways.

The decisions you make and the way you play have a direct influence on Gollum’s personality: Always struggling between the two sides embodied by Gollum and Sméagol, it is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol. One mind, two egos - you decide!

Thief of Thieves

Thief of Thieves

Clandestine

Clandestine

Clandestine is one of the most underrated stealth games I’ve ever played.

I’ll start with what I don’t like: out of all the things to randomly place they chose collectables you’ll need to upgrade your armory.

The game is coded in Unity, so the facial animations are questionable, and the animations overall are very stiff and the collision detection on the environment isn’t great.

The AI is competent, but not particularly complex since guards won’t notice doors opened or trace left by the player.

The quick recap

because who has the time to read my soliloquy

Clandestine is a genius and unforgiving stealth game in which mistakes are lethal. The only way to avoid the mistakes is to have a good friend in the van monitoring you and planning ahead of time. This is a stealth game where non-lethal playthrough is rewarding because the non-lethal options are numerous and cool, whereas the guns are pretty much all the same and do the same thing without much skill needed. No advanced objective requires a kill. You will succeed or fail based on your preparation, co-ordination and skill alone. Exploration is rewarded but not capital.

This is an excellent way for people to get familiar with information security concepts through a Linux platform. Many concepts are expanded upon, the tools are open to be used in far more extensive way than completing the game’s challenges require, and real-world links are given to sources with more information about topics than the game requires the user to understand.

An important note: This game approaches the art of hacking from a red teamer’s perspective. That means pay attention to boundaries (or at least understanding where they are), and knowing the difference between testing to complete the customer’s objective and wandering off the mark. That doesn’t mean the game requires you to do this, but it tries to make you understand it.

I played the beta (and also helped the team with language review and debugging), and I really recommend the game. It’s a great introduction into computer security. It’s based on actual hacking tools, using an encapsulated VM so you can do everything in a safe environment. Challenges start easy and get tough really really fast, so expect some hardship making it to the end if you don’t have much IT skills, but it feels so rewarding when you finally manage to pass a test.

Just don’t expect it to be easy :-)

Teke Teke - テケテケ

I’m having mixed feelings about this game. It’s not necessarily bad, at all, but there are so many things in the trailer and screenshots that don’t occur in the game; you can see encounters with Teke-Teke in and around the house for example, but in game you only meet her halfway through the next chapter, which makes me wonder what happened to get such a big difference between the alpha version and release version.

Nevertheless, the story of the game is pretty good, the puzzles aren’t hard, and there’s replayability since there’s multiple endings. I was a little disappointed in the lack of jumpscares and animations the ghosts have though, I feel like that part could use some improvements.

I can recommend this game, but only on a sale. It’s not worth of it’s full price.

This game is quite simple, it somewhat follows Chilla’s Art style and have quite good graphics and have some nice jump scares. but, it have quite a few flaws which make this game not as good as Chilla’s Arts previous games:

90% of the game consist in searching houses for items with 0 hints of what to do which is very boring

not actual puzzles or challenges besides finding items

very limited exploration

it has a very weak atmosphere, it’s not actually scary

The Church in the Darkness ™

The Church in the Darkness ™

A quick look at gameplay from THE CHURCH IN THE DARKNESS and analysis.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIIPuXi6fNg

In it you’re trying to track down your nephew who joined a Cult and relocated with them to their own new “utopia” in the Jungle to become entirely self-sufficient. With the help of a number of sympathetic members and other oppressed cult members, you’ve got to locate him and make your way out of the camp before disaster of the usual paranoid “lets all die together” type occurs. Now, most people take that to be “drink the koolaid” voluntary sheep-to-slaughter mindlessness. Though the very premise of TCINTD shows that its certainly not all like that, with many who clearly don’t want to be there anymore, let alone die for the place. The “true story” of any death-cult isn’t of masses killing themselves blindly, it'’s how a concentration of power in the most deluded and devoted drags the rest into their graves with a mass-murder majority the minority is hopeless to defy.

I’ve actually been following the development of The Church in the Darkness for a few years now, so I was glad to see it release and snapped up a copy quickly. You can pretty much look at the product page and have a decent grasp for what this game is about, but I’ll go into my experience a bit regardless.

Story

You play as Vic, an ex law enforcement agent asked by his sister to sneak into the compound of a cult called Collective Justice Mission, led by Isaac and Rebecca Walker, to check on your nephew Alex who has joined and been living with the cult without outside contact for two years. This is about as far as the story gets without deviating based on a set of different preacher personalities that can have Isaac and/or Rebecca genuinely trying to provide a peaceful life for the cult members to wanting to watch the whole world burn.
