Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse: The Beginning

Scheming Through The Zombie Apocalypse: The Beginning

A choices matter Visual novel full of offensive humor, staring two degenerate morons and how they deal with surviving a zombie apocalypse.

+graphics are pretty good cartoon style.

+Story line is funny(THE FIRST TIME)

+Soundtrack is relaxing, but not necessarily good.

-Saves. This saves after every chapter. There’s no other save option. Should save after every chapter, so you can go back in case you mess up. This is super punishing for mistakes.

-Lack of options. You can literally only change them at the beginning of game. And there’s literally nothing for sound or graphics. Just to show the text in the talk bubbles. If you choose to not show text, it still shows the stupid bubble over everyone’s head anyway. Oh and language settings, which only has about 8 options.

The Queen rests with the Four now and the young King's ascension to power is overshadowed by his suspicions towards his younger brother, Prince Bryden, who, as many think, could become a better king. It is rumoured to be the sole reason for His Highness Prince Bryden to be entrusted with the administration of the most remote and decadent city in the kingdom. The city of Kastra, or the Widow, was once the capital of Tyrnia. Now she is a pale shadow of her former self. Abandoned and almost of no interest to the Crown, she has fallen into the hands of local criminals who call themselves the Thieves Underground. Under their leadership, the corrupt city guards and the mysterious Church of Anar-Nehit, pilgrims from the far-southern deserts, control nearly every aspect of the city life. Yet, even if the war has been over for half a century now, the patient and vile Ontorian Empire, just like a serpent that it bears on its banners, has prepared an even more cunning plan to seize neighbouring lands. Under the guise of a relative of a local impoverished nobleman, Eiren, one of the Imperial spies sent to Tyrnia, will become part of a dastardly conspiracy to take over the unaware kingdom. In order to successfully execute her orders, Agent Eiren joins the Prince’s people and will have to play her part in the liberation of the city. Together with Gieden, a crafty captain of Bryden’s forces, she begins the investigation of a daring crime that has shaken an already fragile balance in Kastra. Eiren must act behind the backs of her unlikely allies, maintain their trust, and protect her true identity and motives at all costs. But, perhaps, the hardest challenge for her to face will lie in the battle with her conscience and in the necessity for coming to terms with her own tragic past. ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1538840/extras/characters.png?t=1627757775) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1538840/extras/steam_character_eiren.png?t=1627757775) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1538840/extras/steam_character_gieden.png?t=1627757775) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1538840/extras/steam_character_laiyan2.png?t=1627757775) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1538840/extras/steam_character_brykai.png?t=1627757775) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1538840/extras/steam_character_irikh.png?t=1627757775) --- ![Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/375440/header.jpg "") ## Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption I can't recommend Hero-U and I hate that I can't. Quest For Glory 1, the VGA remake is a staple of my childhood and it is unavoidable that I'd compare the 2 games. One of the key pieces of Quest For Glory, that my young mind loved, was that unlike a standard RPG where your character just grew - QFG made you think about how to practice and improve the various skills you would need and how to fit that into your journey so that you succeeded in later goals. In fact, it did this much better in my eyes than games such as Skyrim did years later. *– [Real player with 216.6 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197968423046)* Harry Potter meets The Sims and that is a really good thing! You play a student named Shawn O'Connor in a class for Rogues at a magical university called Hero-U. Taking place on a magic parallel Earth, you have one semester to battle through exams, plotting classmates, private wagers and competition, unlocking secret passages throughout the castle, exploration in the catacombs, and battling and or negotiating with monsters from rats to wraiths. This game is $35 on Steam and worth the dive for anyone who loves immersive adventure gaming, from arguably two of the greatest video game creators in the genre, Lori and Corey Cole. *– [Real player with 80.7 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198035217206)* --- ![Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/234270/header.jpg "") ## Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth This game is exactly what a video game should be. The art of wrapping up a brilliant story in the right way. Far from stressful and repetitive games, this work is unique and often made me feel very different from other games. There is not a lot of interaction and is mostly limited to conversations, looking at objects, and the character's thoughts on a particular object or person. But that's what made me feel so immersed in the game and this world. I haven't read the books, but I'm glad I had this experience without knowing the original. Thank you Daedalic ! *– [Real player with 25.6 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198046415815)* Hurts having to give a thumbs down to a game with such a well constructed narrative, but… For a story game, the story is unsatisfying and the "best bits" feel incredibly rushed. And for a point 'n click game that is similar to a Visual Novel in many senses, it has a weird pacing whilst 75% of the game consists of slice-of-lifeish moments. Think of it like this. The game starts incredibly slow. And then, BOOM, there is a big moment and it looks like the story is REALLY going places... But then no, there's more build-up. And after that, even more build-up. And then even moreso. You'd imagine the story is building up to something grand, right? And that is true! *– [Real player with 25.5 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198077939002)* --- ![Saint Kotar](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1358530/header.jpg "") ## Saint Kotar It's an interesting game, and has many excellent points. But all in all I can only give it a weak recommendation. Pros: –Excellent, dark art style. --Very atmospheric. --Subtle but fitting music, with a couple of tracks that are so good that I find myself excited for the soundtrack. --Extremely dark, in a way that few games are willing to go. --I played through it twice and generally enjoyed the experience both times. Cons: --Extremely thin story that often doesn't make sense. A huge chunk of the game is spent wondering why your sister would have ever had you all come here. Having played through the game twice, I find myself still unable to answer that. Possibly the answer is, "Actually, she didn't." But if that's the correct answer, a HUGE amount of story that fleshes out how the character who did knew to do that and why they'd want to just isn't in the game (but absolutely should be). *– [Real player with 41.6 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198036649624)* Full disclosure: I backed this game's Kickstarter and have reviewed it for the Croatian gaming portal FFA. You can find the Croatian review [here](https://ffa.hr/recenzije/recenzija-saint-kotar/68413/). This is an abbreviated version of that review. Saint Kotar is a traditional p'n'c adventure game trying its best to fit in with the rest of the adventure greats. It plays like most standard examples in the genre - you explore a variety of locations, examine and interact with objects, talk with people quite a bit and try to piece together what exactly is going on. *– [Real player with 28.2 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197995649023)* --- ![Unfolded : Camellia Tales](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1357990/header.jpg "") ## Unfolded : Camellia Tales Where is the free DLC??? *– [Real player with 13.3 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198115964949)* A good point-and-click game set during a dark chapter of Korean history. We follow a boy from 1948, trying to live his life as best as he can while a bloody civil war is being waged on his island. I didn't know anything about this incident before playing this game but it seems that a lot of care was put into depicting it. Even for people with no interest in history, there is still a good story to be found, about surviving with your family through trying times. It's not all doom and gloom though, there are also many lighthearted moments. It's all pretty well written although the English translation feels quite weird at times. *– [Real player with 8.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988671582)* --- ![Batman: The Enemy Within - The Telltale Series](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/675260/header.jpg "") ## Batman: The Enemy Within - The Telltale Series Batman: The Enemy Within is the second season of Telltale’s version of my favourite DC superhero. Obviously this game is mostly focused on story, so I’ll start with my overall recommendation, and then you can skip my detailed analysis if you want to avoid spoilers. This is an essential must play for any fan of Batman. The story is fantastic, Telltale back to their absolute best form. Voice acting is outstanding throughout the whole cast, headlined by Troy Baker as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I advise playing season 1 first, because some decisions carry forward, which can impact the appearance of some characters, and their relationship with Bruce. It took me 9 hours to finish Enemy Within, which is longer than Telltale's other recent games, and I think you can justify buying the game for full price or a small discount. *– [Real player with 18.0 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969417125)* ### Gotham’s Finest By now almost everybody knows who Batman is and most of the details surrounding him (parents‘ death, enemies and villains, Batman‘s codex etc.). So you would probably think “why should I play another Batman game? Will it be the same old story I already know?“. In case of Batman - Enemy Within you would be nicely surprised because **many things are just not as you are used them to be**. And this is good because it makes the story much more interesting than still playing the same song over and over again. *– [Real player with 17.2 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197995195436)* --- ![Best Month Ever!](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1684400/header.jpg "") ## Best Month Ever! ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1684400/extras/Klabater_Gif_Wishlist_01_1.gif?t=1638443092) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1684400/extras/about_the_game_1.png?t=1638443092) **_Best Month Ever_** is a modern point-and-click story-driven adventure of Louise and her son Mitch. Life is hard for Louise as a single mom, struggling to make ends meet. But things can always get worse, and after being diagnosed with a terminal illness that leaves her with one month to live, the clock is ticking for her to raise her son. But how do you explain that to an 8-year old kid? Mitch is picking up things fast - like a duckling, he observes his mother and imitates her behavior - but time is running out and Louise has to think carefully about making the right decisions and setting a good example for Mitch to follow. Together, they hit the road to take back the time that was stolen from them and live a lifetime as mother and son in 4 short weeks… ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1684400/extras/crazy_60s_1.png?t=1638443092) This intense family trip takes place during a groovy 60s era. Mother and son are thrown into both dangerous and funny situations, all of which impact their relationship and future. Their intimate tale plays out against the backdrop of a United States torn apart by political tensions and divided by brutal social inequality. You will learn about the facts and decisions from the past in flashbacks and through memories of the grown-up Mitch - the narration constantly switches between the “past” (the 60s) and the “present” (the 70s). Finally, we jump back in time to decide what choices Louise made and how they affected the future of the two. Players’ decisions will also help shape a unique image of her as to what kind of person she was. ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1684400/extras/Key_facts_1.png?t=1638443092) * **Decisions REALLY matter!** To keep track of Mitch’s growth as a person, each choice you make adds positive or negative influence to three statistics: Righteousness, Confidence, and Relations. As a result, this changes your story on the go, which makes each player's experience feel unique. * **Mother & Son relationship** - Not only will their individual fates be subject to change, but also their mutual relationship. Best Month Ever is above all else the story of the touching, challenging and unique bond that can only exist between a mother and son. * **Different Outcomes** - Turn on, tune in, drop out… and decide! Different choices result in different endings of the game. It is up to the player to decide what kind of person Mitch will become and what exactly happened during his memorable journey through the USA with his mother. * **Weird 60s trip** - What a time to travel it was! Canned Heat was singing about “Going Up the Country” while Bob Dylan asked “How does it feel” to have no home and live on the street. Louise and Mitch travel across the country, meeting bikers, hippies, Klansmen, Native Americans, and far-out wanderers of all sorts. * **No losers here!** - Don’t be a square, you can’t ‘lose’ in Best Month Ever! Your decision will shape Mitch as an adult person. He may of course get some kicks on the way, but hey, the story will still be unique and rewarding! Can you dig it? ---
