Ame no Marginal -Rain Marginal. It is a short, serious tale which only includes one ending but does still showcase some branching pathways along the way. The storyline includes many questions to be pondered during a playthrough.
The story
We are introduced to a man who hates his job and in fact seems to detest living itself. So much so, he thinks of suicide on a regular basis but has thus far avoided any actual attempts on his own life.

This non-interactive story is about a suicide-prone white-collar (an unnamed decoy protagonist) who gets sent into a mostly empty parallel world, where he meets this (also unnamed) girl who’s been living alone there for over a millennium. Apparently because people can’t die in it. The rest i can’t spoil, but the story isn’t as lighthearted as the art style makes it seem to be. It’s an amazing tear-jerker if you don’t mind fantastical elements. But it’s still pretty good if you do.
You might first want to try “Narcissu 1st & 2nd”, which’s free on steam, to get an idea on how stage-nana works. And at least Narcissus tries to stay grounded to reality.

The concept of the diary appeared to be creative at first, but the structure of the routes is very disorganized. There’s A LOT of repetitive and unnecessary scenes. Konron’s route, especially, is extremely repetitive. The same scenes are shown again and again. I felt like I was in a time loop while reading her route. Some routes also feel completely useless, like the very short route with the group of three girls that is there just for the sake of losing their virginity and gaining popularity. Some of the character’s personalities seem a bit inconsistent, which really shows in Hijiri’s route. There are still some unanswered questions at the end and the backstories of some of the main characters could have been explained more in depth (mostly the MC). I feel like the MC’s backstory was there to evoke some sort of emotion in the reader, but there was too much of “just telling” and not enough showing.

I liked this game. In short, there’s enough discussion about food to make a halfling happy, the ladies are lovely and make good conversation, and the story setting is nice and relaxing. I could nit-pick some things (Little Black Book Entertainment, if you ever decide you need a copy editor or proofreader, look me up :P ), but the story comes through loud and clear, so why bother? I come to yuri Cesira, not to appraise her.

If you get the patch, the h-scenes are also animated and they are interactive if you access them from the menu. Since I was confused what “interactive scenes” meant when I read about it, it’s so you can make the characters' pose, expression and such change at will. It’s not “interactive” in a sense of you click here and there and “things happen”.

I don’t really care about this whole loli thing but whatever.
Well, it’s a VN about trains and the rejuvenation of a small city in present day alternate-universe Kyushu, except you also get romance thrown in. I think the underlying story has a message to it that makes me feel like I’ve learned something valuable, like most good VNs do. The train stuff is pretty interesting, too. You’re given a whole bunch of details on how steam trains work, a bit on some non-steam trains, and things relating to steam trains (like coal mines), from the main character “Raillord”, Hachiroku. However, the romance is not what you might expect. It seems more for comic relief than for actual dating sim content, which is fair game. It definitely felt empty, but that made some of the romance-related scenes kind of exciting in a cringy way, if that makes sense. I don’t hate it, but it made the ending of the first route I finished (Hibiki) feel very lame.

No actual sex scenes but the goal is to match enough things to get their clothes off. There are multiple endings, and the gameplay is actually pretty good. It doesnt take itself too seriously, and it’s a bit weird. What more can you ask for?

An enjoyable game, if you like match-3 games, silly storylines, and are satisfied with limited H-content (just nudes, no animations besides breathing cycles).
Sadly not quite as good as My Cute Commissar. This one isn’t as funny (I know that’s subjective, but what I mean is the story and dialogue are a bit less ridiculous) and in terms of gameplay you don’t have as much scope for ‘exploding’ levels where the combos and scores can get really crazy.
I guess avoid it if you’re not keen on ‘keeping it in the family’ (even with distant ancestors) or issues of questionable consent.

Quick and punchy like a 2 minute punk song. Tequila Sunrise isn’t an inventive VN, but its humor and brisk moving narrative held my attention the entire way. Personally I think the game is better without the patch… because the patched scene is a mortifying read.

When I first got the game, I was expecting some awkward gay furry dating sim I could laugh at, given the sexual content/nudity tags. In a severe turn of events, however, this turned out to be one of the best stories I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing through. I’ve laughed as much as I have teared up playing this game, and connected with the characters more then I ever thought I could. Nekojishi is a tragic story as much as it is a fun one.This was supposed to be a joke game for me, but ended up being a game I’ll recommend with full serious intent. If you’re not going to read the rest of this review, let me say: Don’t let the whole “gay furry” thing drive you away, this game much more then that.

Alright, on to the review.
So I review with 5 subjects, Gameplay, Story, Art (Music and Graphics), Enjoyment and Innovation/Bonus. Let’s start with game play.
Gameplay
This game… lacks in player control. I sometimes feel I go for long times without making a decision for the story and it gets boring. I can’t take too much off in this category because the story is amazing, and that is the real draw to a dating sim, I go deeper into that later. So really the gameplay can’t be given much merit because I also find that replaying many times (I go deeper into replaying in enjoyment) can get challenging when skipping through the text and suddenly the game stops so it can give me a full monologue where the words are slightly different then my other play through. Also, as I go into in enjoyment, a ton of the achievements are convoluted and hard to get because the game doesn’t even tell you what they are. To get all the achievements, I had to resort to a guide, not something I’m proud of but I had to do it. I give the gameplay a solid 0.9/2.0. Even with it’s flaws it still provides a game I feel I interact just enough in to consider it a game and not just a novel.
