Zen Chess: Mate in Two

Zen Chess: Mate in Two

Like Mate in One, except you have two moves to checkmate. Relaxing and a little more challenging than the first, otherwise the exact same layout. Some tips to keep you from frustration: You won’t put the king in check on your first move every board, but you will 80% or more of the time. Also, you will be sacrificing your queen on the first move quite a bit, so if you can’t figure out the solution, try killing your queen!

The game contains 150 chess puzzles and the objective of the game is to… you guessed it - mate in two moves. The simplistic UI is identical to the first game in the series: Zen Chess: Mate in One and the high quality of the game is very similar. The only flaw of this title is that the game requires you to find out the single solution the developer wants you to follow. In multiple solution levels only one is the desired one.

I played one game on easy. I’m pretty sure I won? I’m not 100% on that… but an interesting side note is that I had 4 queens on one board and that was not where I won. (Although I guess technically I won in all of them? I think?)

For some reason the AI sent a a king back in time after I had it in check in the, I guess, present. Not a great move with two adjacent kings on the board since it made it easy to check it in the past, and that “past” was the first leg of a new timeline so it had nowhere left to go forward or back in time and was blocked by another piece in the adjacent alternate timeline

Checkmate the enemy king with my queen from a parallel timeline, just for them to stall by sending their knight back in time to make the past the present. Then he checked my king from a parallel timeline with the same knight. Luckily I sniped the knight with a random pawn FROM THE FUTURE. He was on borrowed time…

Gameplay:

How to play the game:

Very simple, anyone who’s ever liked playing chess will definitely learn how this game is played instantly. The game is about moving red and blue knights over boards of chess to red/blue highlighted tiles, as in a game of chess, knights can only move in L-shaped direction (2 tiles straight and then 1 tile to side), the knights can jump over whatever it’s standing in their way, as long as the tile they’re meant to go to is empty. To clear a level, every red knight has to stand in a red tile, as well as every blue knight in blue tile (the easiest levels only contain knights of 1 color).

even though I’m not into chess, I had a good time playing knights. there’s not much to it, you can only move the pieces like you would if you were playing chess, but you only have different colored knights here that you have to move around until they end up where they should be, blue ones on a square with a blue silhouette, red ones on a red. yellow figures are just there to cause you pain and block your movement but they can also be moved around.
