I’m going to give my thoughts on the game as a whole and further down there will be a section addressing people who are having a hard time with this game.

The Game

First off, I love the aesthetics of this game. It has a strange, abstract, almost dreamlike feel to it while also having lore that suggests that this is a world with a history. Something I appreciate is that the game is weird, but it doesn’t feel quirky. The stereo has a nice selection of songs that range from chill to unsettling which helps set the mood for both the horror focused levels and the platforming focused levels.

Honestly, this game has so much love and effort put into it. Sure the movement may be a little wonky at times, but it’s a new game and still a little rough around the edges. I highly recommend this if you’re into weird movement mechanics, difficult platforming, and a horror experience that just straight makes my, (and hopefully your) skin crawl.

Safe Not Safe

Safe Not Safe

Ever wondered how stealth games of the future will look like?

This is how. Safe Not Safe reinvigorates the genre in several fundamental ways.

Meaningful exploration

Every mission is a completely new procedurally generated level. Explore freely and find your own way to the goal without a pre-designed solution.

Worthy Opponent

Powerful AI controls the whole base and commands robotic security. The AI is adapting to your actions and builds smarter and stronger defences on the fly.

Real Challenge

Rogue-lite elements are challenging but fair. No saves during the missions – success depends only on your plan and the way you combine your skills and gear.

Wraiths of SENTINEL

Wraiths of SENTINEL

A very solid CoG - better than most. I really only have two criticisms for the story:

1. The romance wasn’t handled that well in my opinion. It’s very abrupt, especially with the Sorcerer, and with the limited character exploration of the romance optinos it feels empty.

2. I didn’t like the inclusion of the non-Wraith entities. Magicians, demons, etc. To me it makes the whole thing feel smaller. I get that the author is building a shared universe with MetaHuman Inc. (which is a good game), but… meh

I liked MC’s base wraith superpower, I think it was unique and cool. I don’t think it counts as spoilers since you’re introduced to this power at the very beginning of the game: you can walk through walls and other solid stuff (including people) like a ghost, and you are invisible to the human eyes which makes you the perfect spy. It’s cool to see that MC wonders about the extents of this superpower, like can you somehow pass through earth and so on.

There are a number of major choices (at least it looks like it) and different endings (I’ve explored 2 endings, at least). I felt like most of the choices I’ve made had some effect at later stages of the game which is good.

DemonPandemicVR

Finally a simple VR shooter. Yes you can choose to have complicated reloading, but this is the only game I’ve seen where you can choose how you reload. Throwing stuff feels fluid and powerful, and is easily my favorite part of the game. The 7 different arenas give me different euphoric feelings.

I highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a VR game they can play easily without frustration, that is also polished.

I mainly play Beat Saber in VR but I heard about this game because the devs are popular Beat Saber mappers who are now getting into VR game development. I fully support Indie developers so I thought I’d give this one a shot.

I’m definitely not a hardcore gamer or can call myself very good at VR shooters. So I definitely fit into the casual gamer category this game is geared towards. The first thing I noticed when I loaded the game is how intuitive everything is. I see some guns in front of me and targets and I can immediately try it out and learn what to do. I didn’t have to wait for any tutorials, cut scenes or anything. I could just start doing some shooting and have some fun right away!

Monstrum 2

Monstrum 2

Monstrum 2 is a 4v1 multiplayer only horror game where you either play as one of (currently) 3 monsters and hunt down prisoners or one of a bunch of prisoners that has to survive on a randomly generated sea fortress. The goal of the prisoners is to activate fuseboxes which need puzzles completed to be activated. Some need items, some a code, some need keycards or are blocked by something that you need to destroy or push/pull. After that they need to repair their escape vehicle, either submarine or helicopter, and then reach them before getting caught by the monster.

TL;DR at bottom.

I cannot in good faith recommend Monstrum 2 at this time. As much as I want to give this game a positive review, there are simply too many glaring issues to warrant recommending the game in it’s current state. If you read some of the other reviews and feedback people have given, you can get a good idea of what it’s like to play right now and admittedly, while I do occasionally have some fun with the game, I find myself quickly losing interest and becoming frustrated.

If you get past the fact that you are going to have to ask others in the JunkFish discord to even find enough players to play a game, you are quickly going to realise that the balance between the prisoners trying to escape and the monsters hunting you down, pretty much doesn’t exist. If the monster even has a slight idea of what they are doing, in most runs, unless the prisoners are equally as good, if not better, you are going to get absolutely destroyed. Combine this with the fact that there are still so many bugs (especially with the audio) that have existed since the launch of Early Access, you are going to have to do everything your power to convince yourself that this is a good experience.
