The Wonderful 101: Remastered

The Wonderful 101: Remastered

I’ve been playing this game for YEARS back when it released on the Wii U. I never thought in a million years that The Wonderful 101 would have an official PC release. And yet here we are. So how does it hold up?

Maybe I’m being biased here but I genuinely believe this is PlatinumGames and Hideki Kamiya’s magnum opus. The combat system is extremely intricate and complex but damn does it feel satisfying to master. This is NOT a cutesey wootsey Pikmin-style adventure game. This is very much an action game that ranks up there with games such as Devil May Cry and Bayonetta (2 other games Hideki Kamiya is responsible for. Go figure.). This is a game that does NOT hold your hand whatsoever nor does it do any spoonfeeding. You’re gonna get punished. You’re gonna get destroyed. You’re gonna get nothing but consolation prizes along the way. You’re probably also gonna get frustrated with the weapon switching gimmick and say the controls are bad and that it should’ve stayed on the Wii U where it belongs.

At first this game can seem very inaccessible due to its abnormal controls and original home on the Wii U. Hopefully this review will clear up some misconceptions as well as highlight, in short, what makes this game so incredible.

TLDR: PLAY THE DEMO, it will give you a basic feel for the gameplay as well as a showcase of the game’s spectacle. Any fan of Bayonetta, DMC and the likes should play this game right now. This game is incredible and my favourite of all time. The controls are responsive (when played with a controller) and the combat is incredibly mechanically deep, combined with an immense level of spectacle through its 20 hr story. It is just Wonderful.

Project Almighty

I tried this because it went on sale, and it looks like nobody has commented on it in a few years. The UI is full of game-breaking bugs, making it almost unplayable. Regardless of what the developer has said in the discussions, this appears to be an unfinished, abandoned project. It looks like it was developed using straight assembly language or C, and direct pixel drawing instead of standard UI controls, which is commendable in terms of programming effort, but with so much effort put into building a hackish UI from scratch, there was nothing left to put into screen layout or graphic design, making for a confusing and unpleasant eyesore. The game concept seems like it could potentially be fun if this were rebuilt from scratch using a modern game development framework and a standardized UI.

Yes, it’s a mobile port. I should’ve googled it before buying.

Every level feels almost exactly the same. There’s always a goblin that laughs at you in every level. Bosses are just boring and spongy. You can upgrade stats as you play which is the best part about the game, but the grind is absolutely insane. Play the same levels over, and over, and over again to get coins to upgrade. Everything feels very unsatisfying, but overall it’s just a boring slog.

Chenso Club

Chenso Club

The alien invaders are everywhere, attacking everything and everyone! And when they die, the life-force they leave behind is an ultra-incredible energy source! Is there any hope?

Meet the Chenso Club: a growing group of fighters here to save the world. They’re using the aliens’ life-force to power up and beat them at their own game. Don’t let their adorable nature fool you - they will happily and brutally obliterate any threat that gets in their way.

Meet Blue, a powerful android developed in a lab where an alien discovery was used to ultra-boost her power. Her weapon of choice is a mean chainsaw and a charmingly destructive attitude.

Carmine is a highly-trained member of the royal guard, tasked with protecting the King. After a surprise alien attack, her King is now being held hostage and her honor demands that she save the day. Her weapon of choice is a giant hammer, infused with the power of alien essence. Her activity of choice is destroying aliens every chance she gets.

Plum’s favorite hobby is trying out different kinds of witchcraft. This bubbly character spends most of her day at the abandoned clock tower. What she doesn’t know is that the clock tower is now haunted by creepy monsters from another universe!

Remember! The Chenso Club is growing - so more characters are on their way!

Our heroines want any excuse to use their newfound powers. It’s up to you to master their moves, increase their power and show the world the might of the Chenso Club.

  • Two game modes (with more to come) - Story mode, where you fight your way through colourful worlds and bosses, as well as Co-op.

  • Fight with attitude: The Chenso Club girls are fast witted, strong and adorably violent..

  • Punch, jump, slash, and smash: Master the girls’ moves, kick your reflexes into high gear, and battle your way through “old-school challenge” levels to obliterate aliens.

  • Test your rogue-lite skill: Procedurally generated levels are different each time you play. No do-overs!

  • Collect life force from aliens you kill: Trade for power-ups to make your fighter faster and stronger—but don’t spend it all! That life force also keeps YOU alive.

[*Play solo or with friends: Play solo or indulge the Chenso girls’ competitive nature with couch co-op.[/list]

I got the chance to play Street Hero back when it was introduced as a demo for the Steam Game Festival and I thought it showed tremendous promise. Especially if you consider that this is the first game released by DD Games , a Game Studio from Vietnam managed by one authentic Hero! A one man band!

Seven Dunes: Curse on the Golden Sand

Seven Dunes: Curse on the Golden Sand

Seven Dunes: Curse on the Golden Sand is a game about an operation for rescuing a princess kidnapped by monsters in a fantasy desert kingdom. The hero (user) must solve numerous puzzles and deal with countless monsters to complete the operation. It combines adventure puzzles and RPG elements. Please find the introduction of the story below the following features:

  • We also had the story written as a novel, which might be available to you.

  • While it is essentially an adventure game, we incorporated lots of RPG elements to enrich the content of the game, like the drops of elixirs, herbs, potions, and mixtures.

We need the best person to break into this facility and recover the plutonium and we need it fast! The only name that I have in mind is Mr. Shifty and his brilliant operator, Nyx. I did not have a history with Top-Down Shooters (also known as Twin Stick Shooters) until Hotline Miami. Since then I have started to enjoy them more, especially with Nuclear Throne. I usually saw them as cheap little games that had very little to offer, but those aforementioned games and a few others (Enter The Gungeon) have put them back on the map. However, those heavy-hitters are already so good that one might find it difficult to break some new ground. And yet, Mr. Shifty comes and seduces with a mechanic that just feels perfectly at home with this viewpoint: a “blink” or “teleport” ability, that you might know from Dishonored’s Corvo, X-Men’s Nightcrawler or a few MOBAs that borrow it from WarCraft III’s Warden hero.

## Super ComboMan: Smash Edition

Even while I have to merit the improvements of the Smash Edition of Super Comboman, I can sadly only verdict it be be less worse than the original release due to non-changing flaws and issues:

The pseudo-cellshading look looks exceptionally dodgy and low budget and is incapable of hitting the "comic sticker vibe" it is aiming for. Character design is very unique, but in this particular case "unique" in a devastatingly bad way. The entire game is full of cliche characters which don't feel comical or satirical at all and which I could imagine many people potentially being able to take offense with.

Meh I tried to keep interested but it's tedious and kind of obnoxious how much button mashing there is. Otherwise seemed kind of low budget and lack luster.

## Rampage Miami

Remember when shooter games where gleefully unrealistic, uncomplicated, unpretentious, and thus fun? That's what this little retro gem is all about. Well, that and fluorescent pink tanks and attack helicopters.

You get to blow up bad guys, cars, even buildings, you can ride vehicles and fly fighter jets, you can buy upgrades and become obscenely overpowered, and all while enjoying unabashedly 80s graphics and soundtrack. The game even has pretty decent replayability value.

I doubt you could find anything more entertaining at this price.

In a nutshell: RewindApp stole a free online game named Hammer 2 and upgraded it with synthwave aesthetics. It surely raises concern whether it's acceptable for paying such a scam, but I hadn't known it before my purchase, and for the sale price of 0,39 €, I had quite a good time with this game.

The game itself is a cheap GTA knockoff, the graphics are nice, the music is excellent. Quests are easy and repetitive (kill/destroy N things), vehicle control is a bit poor (except for drifting, which was cool), physics is irreal. Upgrades are not necessary, and if you want some challenge, avoid buying too much of it (especially Golden Gun, starter weapons, infinite ammo, god mode and jetpack), otherwise it will be child's play and no fun at all. All 30 quests can be finished in merely 2 hours, the 100% completion (time limit, trophy score, secret package) requires about 2-3x more time, depending on the player.
