“That Cat Do Be Helping Tho” šŸ¾āš—ļø

This game is cute. It’s simple. It’s stupid hard. But, when you solve it? Ho boy, that sweet, sweet rush of happy feel good chemicals surging through your brainā€¦ oh it’s so worth it.

Buy it. It’s worth it. My friends and I got hours out of this.

Recommended.

It’s Sokoban with a retro-inspired cat aesthetic. For the most part this game offers a simple, fun challenge for a super cheap price, but it can be pretty buggy sometimes. Here’s a couple of issues I ran into:

ā€¢ Sometimes a level would randomly claim it was completed before I had figured out the puzzle. You can go back and replay the level from the level selection screen if you want to complete it for real, so this isn’t a huge deal.

ā€¢ It’s possible to get yourself completely stuck if you push a potion or box into a teleporter then immediately follow it through, requiring you to restart the level.

After finishing the whole game, despite of my strong objections that I’ve written about in my original review (below), I’ve decided to change my review into thumbs up.

It took me some time to analyze my thoughts, and while I still have strong objections about inconsistency of various gameplay mechanics, the game truly has a charm, is well done and doesn’t deserve negative review, even if as a programmer purely analyzing the consistency of the gameplay I’d rate it negatively without a second thought.

Let me start off by saying that I actually really enjoyed playing the game. The challenges are fun to solve and while they generally were not very difficult, I often found myself going back to old exercises and solving them in different ways.

Nevertheless, with the current state of the game, I cannot recommend it since there are just too many flaws that I cannot overlook even for an early access title.

Many of these are easily fixable, which is why I will go over the major problems one by one so that the developer(s) can consider my feedback.

EDIT: Bottom of this reivew for some updates

This is such a beautiful game already!

A beautiful homage to cats (the developers used their real kitty sounds, and pictures) and their perspective of the world.

It makes you feel tiny and defenseless, but at the same time smart and cunning.

There already are some incredible elements to be taken into account, first and foremost, the atmospheric poignancy. With the 3D audio enabled, it really feels like being immersed in a rainy forest!

The story is extremely promising, and all the little details and collectibles scattered throughout the map make exploration meaningfulā€¦

I recommend this game strictly on the idea of being able to play as a cat, this game needs work!!!!!!

The idea of playing as a cat and having an adventure is probably a dream for 90% of gamer’s out thereā€¦..I completely understand everyone’s frustration when it came to playing this game. Here were some of the issues I ran into:

Controlling the cat is just odd, it doesn’t feel like true 360 to turn around. I know I see him in 3rd but I feel like i’m still turning in 1st person….if that makes sense?

Double Pug Switch

Double Pug Switch

Double Pug Switch is a simple side scrolling precision platformer and is a frustratingly addictive indie game developed by The Polygon Loft. In order to reverse the consequences from a catastrophic laboratory accident, Otis the Pug must jump through different dimensions to stop the evil cat, Sker. Otis has to switch between dimensions and avoid countless spikes and pitfalls to get to Sker and turn him back into the good cat, Whiskers.

Double Pug Switch is not a game for the easily frustrated or people with slower reaction times. This is a game that will require your total attention and focus at all times. You have to survive by narrowly dodging spikes, avoiding fast approaching pitfalls, and collecting power-ups to inch your way to the next checkpoint, all while higher skilled players try to collect gold and purple coins to buy neat cosmetic hats and masks for Otis to collect in the gameā€™s hat shop. The player will infinitely keep repeating from the last checkpoint they reached, until they reach the next checkpoint or the end of the level.

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

Is this game a masterpiece? No, not quite. It is a difficult old-school arcade game. An evil cat has spilled some flasks in the laboratory, and the Professor and his pug Otis have been sucked into alternate dimensions. They can only return if Otis, controlled by the player, manages to catch the cat. To do so you have to reach the level exit. Survive 34 auto-scrolling levels, jumping over spikes, and dashing while avoiding to hit solid walls. You can switch between two dimensions, and the levels consist of parts from those two dimensions. Switch between those dimensions with the press of a button and make sure you are always in the right dimension - if there is a ground, stay in this dimension, if there is a wall blocking your way, switch to the other dimension. This switching has to be done while jumping (the longer you press the button the higher you jump) over deadly obstacles and gaps in the floor. Quite challenging. To calm down you can unlock hats for Otis between the levels.
