I wanna be The Cat

I wanna be The Cat

So I played this game already almost 20 hours and got 12/25 achievements. Here are my thoughts:

At the moment this game consists of two different modes: 100 lives singleplayer and online racing.

First the singleplayer:

Based on the sentence: ‘A cat has nine lives’ Nemega added 91 and lets you beat a randomly chosen set of levels in multiple worlds.

Between the levels you can find chests and shops with items which you can buy with ingame currency. Also at a certain point in the world and at the end there are bosses. They are funny parodies of bosses which are popular in the I wanna be the guy fanbase.

Never thought I’d live to see the day we’ll get a commercial fangame on Steam. And boy, am I glad it’s actually a good one.

I Wanna Be the Cat is a procedually generated precision platformer, in which you make your way through separate rooms and bosses, while being able to purchase upgrades that will help lowering the overall difficulty.

Every time you run out of lives you’ll get separate currency based on how many rooms cleared relative to the difficulty you played on.

This currency allows to purchase permanent passive (perks) and active items upgrades, so technically you’ll have a slightly easier time every new run.

In general the game is quite enjoyable but something I consider a huge disadventage is controls. Jumping in some cases requires absurd precision, also maybe it’s just me but moving platforms are a huge pain. This two problems make “catrunner” achivment a terrible experiance.

If you are looking for a nice, cheap, short platforming game than this game is for you, but it’s nothing in compare to Celest or N-game2 (it’s free, not on Steam)

Also the cat is cute

Saving Mr. Sparkles

just not fun at all. the main gimmick of the game is so clunky and the controls are awful. go play celeste instead and save your 5 dollars.

yo this game is hard as hell but incredibly simple. You get better as you go on and you really start to notice your improvement as well. If you like games like super meat boy and trapland then this is the game for you.

Cat Dungeon Escape

Cat Dungeon Escape

This game is just meh, 4 or 5 decent levels and thats it. Not too good and not too bad. If you like these kinda games give it a go.

Cat Dungeon Escape is a short (2-3h) physics-based arcade/puzzle hybrid where you manipulate the board by rotating it, which relocates sliding blocks so you can open paths and dodge pitfalls like fire, buzzsaws, spikes, etc. On each level you need to grab a key, then position yourself correctly at a door to move on. While it is puzzley and requires careful thought, the arcadey elements make timing essential, and so it may not be for everyone. Right now Quality of Life issues are bad, but I’m conditionally recommending bc a patch is supposed to be coming soon.

Very fun game with a nice art style. There is an interesting underlying lore and the movement feels very nice.

Super Neat Cat is a straightforward platformer that struggles to stand out. In general, the game is inoffensive and lacks any egregious issues. Typically, a game without many flaws is great, but there needs to be something special or different about it. Super Neat Cat isn’t a bad game, but it lacks a notable strength that pulls you in.

The platforming mechanics in Super Neat Cat are rudimentary and felt clunky to me. You have a basic double jump, but nothing else. There are no special abilities, you just run and jump. I found jumping to feel unusually slow, and it actually took a while to get used to it. To be fair to the game, this might just be a personal issue, as I don’t play a ton of platformers. I would have liked it if your character had a faster top speed, although it’s also clear that this game is trying to be more casual and laid-back than something like Super Meat Boy.
