Oh, a Rock! Studios is back at it again with the sequel to the visual novel I loved so much. Much like the first game, this game does not pretend to be something it’s not. It gives you everything you’d expect from its title and more. Six new candidates, six more cats to love. If you’re interested by a concept as funny as talking cats running for president, this is the VN for you.
Love this game! My vote would go to either Mr. Biscuits or Kaleidoscope.

Cat President ~A More Purrfect Union~
It’s a really cute parody of American elections. But this game will be intersting even for those who are absolutely not into politics. I was so excited to play it being a great cat lover. We can hear those cats purring in the game which is so relaxing and enjoyable! Unfortunately I can’t say the same about barking sounds but even they helped to create a general nice atmosphere of the world ruled by cute animals because people became too corrupted. I find it so adorable that the photos of real cats are used. DJ Nibbles looks especially cute for me! Plus in every route there’re amazing cat pictures on the walls. It was a real pleasure for my eyes to play through this novel!

Tries to be Catoful Boyfriend, but doesn’t quite get there. A big part of why Hatoful Boyfriend works so well is that it starts with a one-note joke, but gradually reveals a complex story structure and lore, ending with a (probably well-spoiled by now) plot twist and genre shift. Cat President starts with a one-note joke and never strays far from it, so if you don’t find the idea of talking cat politicians inherently funny, it’ll get old really fast.
It’s a visual novel with no gameplay, and the choice structure is very simple (pick a cat, make some choices along a linear plot and have a sound effect tell you if you chose correctly, then reach one of three endings based on how many correct choices you made). Your choices basically don’t affect anything but the ending, so replaying involves skipping a lot of text, and the correct choice indicator should have been optional, because although it takes some of the frustration out of finding the good endings, it takes some of the fun out of it, too.

(Note: I will re-edit this part, as I perhaps I used the wrong words to describe what I meant. After some much needed deep thoughts, here they are: I have read the game in both Russian and English. Both languages are well written, especially Russian. The English is simple and easy to understand and doesn’t require you to look up big words. It’s also all charming and adorable and very enjoyable.)

It’s really cute and adorable! I played through all the routes just so I could see CATS! There are cats everywhere!!! Especially in credits!!! That’s one way of doing it heh heh. Oh right the guys… The guys are charming, everyone is well drawn. You don’t really learn much about them… But I am guessing if there was a continuation… Then we would?

Hustle Cat
If you’re not already convinced by the fact that the playable character works in a Cat Cafe, I don’t know what will convince you.
Regardless, Hustle Cat has very quickly reached the top of my favourite Visual Novels list, and for good reason. The strongest point of this game is it’s quirky cast. Avery themselves alone is an enjoyable character to watch fumble around. The various love interests will surprise you, and unlike most VNs, I don’t think I actually found that I disliked a single route. I had favourites, naturally, but no route I disliked.

I really liked the art (the characters were very expressive).
As for the technical aspects…
You can play as either male, female or nonbinary. There are six love interest: 4 guys and 2 girls.
The first problem I found in this game was that I couldn’t take screenshots of it :(
The second was that it crashed two times while I played (so save often!).

NEKOPARA - Catboys Paradise
To start this off I would like to say I consider myself somewhat of an expert on not only anime but also anime boys, make them cat boys, and consider me god. I’ve recently gone through a really shit time and needed something to fill the infinitely expanding void and this game did exactly that. The second I saw this game pre-release the heavenly light shined above me and a new reason to live my life was given to me in the form of virtual cat boys. This game is simply a prologue and only came out a day ago but it is life-changing. Waking up on this game’s release date can only be topped by waking on Christmas knowing you have a million dollars waiting for you under the tree. I was instantly drawn into this game weeks before release due to me being so overly attracted to the cat-boy sprites that were shown off. as someone whos struggled with erectile disfunction his entire life this game made my William stand firm and strong for the first time in 30 years. I cannot express the amount of sexual attraction I feel towards this game

I seriously loved every single character so much that I can’t pick a favorite. They’re each charming in their own way, and their designs are fabulous. I really liked how even though they’re all pining for their mistress, the catboys are mostly still friendly with one another. There’s a bit of friendly rivalry and one character who’s a bit more possessive than the others, but I got the sense that they’re still all friends who care about each other, and it’s mentioned/implied throughout that you may end up adopting all of them even if the route format suggests one will be your main squeeze. It was refreshing and leaves a glimmer of hope for there being a future harem route or ending.

When I first got the game, I was expecting some awkward gay furry dating sim I could laugh at, given the sexual content/nudity tags. In a severe turn of events, however, this turned out to be one of the best stories I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing through. I’ve laughed as much as I have teared up playing this game, and connected with the characters more then I ever thought I could. Nekojishi is a tragic story as much as it is a fun one.This was supposed to be a joke game for me, but ended up being a game I’ll recommend with full serious intent. If you’re not going to read the rest of this review, let me say: Don’t let the whole “gay furry” thing drive you away, this game much more then that.

Alright, on to the review.
So I review with 5 subjects, Gameplay, Story, Art (Music and Graphics), Enjoyment and Innovation/Bonus. Let’s start with game play.
Gameplay
This game… lacks in player control. I sometimes feel I go for long times without making a decision for the story and it gets boring. I can’t take too much off in this category because the story is amazing, and that is the real draw to a dating sim, I go deeper into that later. So really the gameplay can’t be given much merit because I also find that replaying many times (I go deeper into replaying in enjoyment) can get challenging when skipping through the text and suddenly the game stops so it can give me a full monologue where the words are slightly different then my other play through. Also, as I go into in enjoyment, a ton of the achievements are convoluted and hard to get because the game doesn’t even tell you what they are. To get all the achievements, I had to resort to a guide, not something I’m proud of but I had to do it. I give the gameplay a solid 0.9/2.0. Even with it’s flaws it still provides a game I feel I interact just enough in to consider it a game and not just a novel.
