Victoria Clair and the Mystery Express

Victoria Clair and the Mystery Express

A short but charming Professor Layton-esque murder mystery/puzzle game. There is roughly two or three hours of gameplay depending on how long the puzzles take you.

The puzzles are clever and there is a good mix of challenging/simple puzzles.

The dialogue is enjoyable if not a little cheesy at times!

I thoroughly enjoyed the clever deduction system at the end.

I highly recommend giving this game a go, especially as it’s free!

A really nice little puzzler.

While the presentation is functional rather than stunning, this doesn’t matter in the slightest. I actually found it quite charming. The focus is on the puzzles. Having said that, the music is great and the story/dialog are both well written and at times quite funny too.

The puzzles come from a wide variety of types, and are all individually implemented very well. Considering that separate code has been written for each, the interface is nicely polished.

Being generally interested in puzzles, I’d come across many of these classics before. But it was still fun to work them out again. And there were still a few which made me think quite a bit to be confident of solving them all first go.

Of the three games currently published on Steam under the “Hidden Paws” franchise, Hidden Paws Mystery is undoubtedly the most beautiful one. Manic Hyena outdid themselves this time, by crafting 20 unique and mirific worlds, full of mystery and enchantment. A hut in a forest of fireflies, a spooky mansion stranded on an island, a forest of gigantic mushrooms or a surreal chess board lost in space - each of these seems to tell its own distinctive story. They do have one thing in common though: cats and their yarns, hiding as well as possible from your snooping eye. You’ll have to find them all despite them having mastered the art of deceit.

Samurai Cat

Good gameplay, good idea, but you should fix the slow motion when the golden mouse is the last one, because if the player tries to attack it more than twice, they won’t want to see slow motion if it’s not dead yet

Lucid Cycle

Lucid Cycle

As of finishing this game, I have played all of Tonguc Bodur’s games. I love these games and this one just may be my favorite. There is just the right amount of relaxation, using your noodle, and strategy in this one. I can’t wait for the next game. Would love to be a beta tester for future games.

I’ve been a fan of Tonguç Bodur now for quite a while. I find his slow-paced games relaxing and visually stimulating. His creations are often of an introspective nature, exploring life and the inner self. He is the meditating person’s game developer.

“Lucid Cycle” is described as a series of short dream-like experiences. Exploration with minor puzzle elements. It takes around two hours to play through the game, which saves after every dream scene. Apart from a cat, you share your small apartment with an AI that comments on your dream sessions every morning after you wake up.

Cat and Ghostly Road

Cat and Ghostly Road

A beautiful game about a brave soul who will fight everything and overcome any obstacle for a loved one.

A cat named Yang is a character which keeps your heart in his soft white paws til the end of the game. The amount of charm he has is astonishing, Yang is polite, optimistic and admirable, and following his adventure was a very pleasant experience. Visuals are very charming, and locations are changing at just the right pace to keep player awed, but not bored. Puzzles are getting more complicated to the end, but the logic is very clear, so no need for tiringly combining everything and everyone, which is a common downside for many adventure games. Cat and Ghostly Road is light and beautiful experience, full of care and kindness, it was a pleasure to play!

Cat and Ghostly road is a stunning point & click title with gorgeous art and a symbolic story. However, it isn’t without its shortcomings and includes tedious title screens as well as frustrating camera angles throughout the game. Yet, overall, I enjoyed my experience and would recommend to other avid P&C Indie enthusiasts.

Pros

  • Gorgeous, vibrant artwork.

  • Various scenes across different landscapes

  • Steam achievements.

  • ‘Cat vision’ which allowed players to see demons.

  • Symbolic story.

cat notebook

Like a walk through a museum, you move through art and the art moves you. Nobody can tell you how it should make you feel. But maybe by the end of the experience, the ordeal, you’ll leave the museum a stronger person. That is the beauty of Cat Notebook; there is no wrong way to play, no wrong way to go. At the end of it all is an audiovisual experience that changes you for the better, or for the worse. For those seeking deep introspection, you’ve come to the right place.

I’m not sure how to approach reviewing this game(?), so I suppose I’ll just see how my experience stacks up to the list of features in the description.

“• explore a cat notebook”

I definitely did that, so, check that one off.

“• many unique illustrations to look at and songs to listen to”

To be precise, there are 97 unique illustrations, and 97 songs to go along with each one. Accurate enough so far.

“• do cat-like things”

You can move around. You can meow, sleep, and sit. Seems pretty cat-like.

Marcella Moon: Curse of the Black Cat

Marcella Moon: Curse of the Black Cat

This is certainly the best game in the series so far! It has more gameplay and puzzles than the others. This is the first game to have voice acting, and I think it did well. The story feels a bit more personal than the others, too, since Marcella’s mother and roommate are both present. If you liked the other games in the series, you’ll like this one.

This was a really cute and enjoyable game! It’s fun to play and quick enough to finish in one afternoon.

The small town setting is very quaint and there’s a nice atmosphere. I really liked the story line. It was well paced and there are some touching emotional elements and (kind of comedic) surprises! The soundtrack especially stood out to me, since it set the mood very well and was very pretty at times. The voice acting quality is also pretty good considering that this is an indie/one person developed game (which is very impressive!).
