The Cat Games

This is a rather short and simple game with 3 scored mini games and some little “side activities”.

It’s very cute. I like the art style and the classical music fits in smoothly with the mood of the game.

Overall the game is very…

It doesn’t offer a great deal of extended game play but it does have Trading Cards, Leaderboards (I found that you can compare scores with other people if you access the stats via Steam client, not in game as far I could see) and 16 Achievements that aren’t too difficult to earn as long as you’re curious like a cat and willing to take a quick look at a walk-through guide if you’re not 1337 enough to crack the cat code.

A friend bought me this game as a joke, due to my username. At first, I thought it looked like a rather bad game, and I was not mistaken. However, the several bugs and glitches provide a rather interesting gaming experience. If you want a well-working game, this is not for you. But if you want a game that is going to stay the same no matter how many times you play, this is a perfect game. It will not provide you with an intense gaming experience, and it’s also not a game that you’d play for hours in a row. But this is a game that you can always fall back on for a slow and predictable gaming session. The game advertises that it has both mice and rats for you to chase in the game, this is, however, a lie. The only rodents to be found in this game are rats. That is the only lie to be found in the description of the game though. One of the key features is that you can be a cat. And although nothing in the game indicates that you are one, if you just put yourself in the mindset of a cat, then you can be a cat. Another key feature is all of the BUGS! And worry not, this is not put among the key features by mistake. You’ll spend a majority of your time experience all the different kinds of bugs. There is more than one way to fall out of the one, singular, and small map that this game has to offer. Finding more and more ways to break the map is certainly one of the more exciting parts of the game. Another fun part is that instead of you pushing things off tables and counters, the THINGS will push YOU off. In this game, the table most certainly has turned. It’s a great game that really isn’t worth what it costs. I would recommend that you do try to play the game if you get the chance. But if you ever feel like actually buying the game, trust me, do not do it. This is a horrible game that really isn’t worth spending any money on at all. I, on the other hand, still love it though. It has most certainly been a 10/10 gaming experience.

I always keep my expectations low for early access games. But this game STILL managed to disappoint me The “meow” is god awful. I really couldn’t think of a more irritating sound clip to play on repeat. Some really fundamental things need to be fixed.

The physics. Oh my god. The physics. I’ve personally never seen my own cat knock something off the counter and go flying off in the same randomly chosen direction. The jump mechanic is equally terrible and frustrating. As is the entirety of the game play. I’ve found absolutely nothing forgiving in this game. Well, the little white cat on the main menu is cute I guess. But even the menus themselves are so broken and honestly quite useless. Why two menus when they both offer basically the same options? Where are the settings? I had to mute the game in windows because you can’t even change the volume in game.

To start out this review, I’m going to go ahead and say that I’m a dude who really appreciates kind of shoddy/nonsense VNs, so when I saw this game appear on the front page of Steam the day after the Holiday sale for about as much money as I had in my Steam Wallet, I was in. I went in with no expectations or desires, and that was definitely beneficial to the experience.

This game is just very innocent, like an 8 year old’s journal entry except with a little bit more cleavage. The writing looks like the authors used only the 100 most frequently used words in English, so it’s very easy and fast to read. This honestly would be a pretty good game for someone learning English as a second language. They go to a mall! A beach! A cafe! It reminds me of a Spanish 102 lesson, and it kept my attention more than a Spanish 102 lesson because it had anime cat girls with big boobs in it.

Alright, I’m trying to be real fair here on the game. This game is rough in so many ways. Just booting the game presented major challenges that do not lend to a sellable product:

No music on the title screen, bare bones UI of “Start” and “Load,” and the game crashes when you alt+enter to full screen. This is a major red flag and should have been polished considerably more.

As far as UI goes, the interface is buggy, skipping text is hard to stop when you want it to stop and going full screen makes the window spill out of your screen if you have a smaller monitor. Hitting the log button reveals a similar issue to the save and load screen of very hard to read text, but with the added issue of the background image failing to load due to a broken asset link. Slogging through the game becomes a severe pain with these issues, especially when replaying for the other endings.
