ZpellCatz: Pumpkin Prologue

ZpellCatz: Pumpkin Prologue

Combat and movement are far too slow for a mouse and keyboard control scheme like this. I understand you can upgrade your equipment and become faster, but that still doesn’t mean anything when both you and your enemies have to come to a complete stop to attack. Honestly, the slow combat and movement feel forced to just to make it more of a grind. I don;t expect a lot of people are going to want to download or buy the full version if the combat is this slow.

Cat Quest

Cat Quest

Tl;dr, Cat Quest is scrumptiously pawsome. Unless you don’t particularly like cats.

In this sexy kitty dancing…no, wait, wrong game, scratch that. In this furry…aaargh…scratch three. In this bright, colorful, light action RPG you play as an unnamed cat Dragonborn, erm, I mean Dragonblood, the only cat species capable of slaying dragons and saving the world of Felingard from destruction.

Visuals, sounds, music, even the combat sounds are all cute, charming, fuzzy, warm and simply cattastic. All the animations are very fluid, character designs are smooth and imaginative and the overland map is adorable and a joy to traverse. Catnap animation melts the coldest of hearts.

Okay so I wanna take a minute and seriously talk about the mechanics of Cat Quest because the Gentlebros really put together a very sweet and silky setup.

The inventory system is clean and to the point, and I love it. There’s no trash to pick up, just gear. And you’ll never clutter your bag with six different Longswords – you have one longsword, and if you pick up a second, the first one just gets stronger. The same with armour.

You have three slots for gear: head, chest, and weapon. When you sort your inventory by these three slots, the sorting puts the best piece at the very front so you immediately know what gives you the most benefit. This isn’t perfect, though – say you’re more interested in hitting heavy with magic, or you want to build up your armour. You’ll need to peruse and compair for yourself, but the best well-rounded piece is always right at the top of the list.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage

Gori: Cuddly Carnage

Want to slice creepy toys? Want to dice mutated unicorns? Want to play as a murder-kitty on a death-dealing hoverboard? Great news! Gori: Cuddly Carnage is the game you’ve been waiting for!

Come meet the team. First up, there’s your sentient, razor-sharp hoverboard, F.R.A.N.K. Then there’s CH1-P, a modular AI that will constantly complain as you wipe out hordes of corrupted cuddly toys. And then there’s the star of the show – Gori – the most adorable and badass cat in the world.

This cuddly crew gets unwillingly dragged into a battle that wiped out all humans and laid waste to everything on earth that wasn’t cute and cuddly enough for The Adorable Army - a horde of mutated and blood-thirsty toys that only YOU can destroy!

  • Fast-paced, third-person skate-and-slash carnage.

  • A futuristic world tainted by the Adorable Army.

  • Immersive (and very cute) environments.

  • Adaptable music that reacts to your actions and playstyle.

  • Intense destruction, brutal combat, and a whole world to smash to bits.

Follow Gori, F.R.A.N.K., and CH1-P, on their journey to save their own lives and stop the carnage of the Adorable Army and its dark leaders.

Game contains foul language, excessive gore and other adult content! Enjoy!

The fact that they released an old game in this state is absolutely ridiculous and inexcusable.

  • Partial controller support for a game that doesn’t support kb+m despite the fact that it could work (you need workarounds in order to play with Dualshock 4 for gods sake).

  • Constant crashing during load screens. You know that lovely feeling of doing side stuff for hours only to have the game crash on you and removing all your progress because autosave isn’t a thing? Outstanding.

  • No options whatsoever. Wow look, you can toggle fullscreen on or off, so advanced.

SPOILERS AHEAD! PLAY THE GAME FIRST THEN READ MY REVIEW!

Aaaaand that’s the next game all done! What an experience this game was. Let’s begin with the review:

Soooo…once again, I’m glad I gave these games a chance and I’m glad that I bought both of these instead of just one, definitely got a more fuller experience with them. So, where do I stand on this game?

Story/Narrative

While I don’t think this game is narratively better than the first game, The assassins in this game don’t feel like real people at times and more or less just feel like ‘oh, just another bad guy for Travis to fight to get to the top, I guess.’ It’s kind of jarring going from a game that had characters with some levels of depth to them and you could almost feel their struggles up until they died to a sequel where only a few of the assassins actually feel like they’re properly fleshed, and one of those few is just a character from the first game brought back from the dead that Travis himself doesn’t even get to face, with that character being ‘New Destroyman’, instead Shinobu fights him (or rather them since there’s two now and it’s kind of an annoying fight, ngl.) The story is….worse than the first game and while it has it’s good moments in it as well like Henry fighting an anime mecha girl, Shinobu making her moves on Travis which is uhhh…kind of funny and kind of weird at the same time considering the fans who probably DID ship them got slapped in the face and those who didn’t were probably just thinking ‘Yeah, that seems about right’, and Travis and Sylvia having more banter (which was some of my favorite moments in the first game and this one since we got to see the two interact more here and form a sort of…screwed up bond), overall, the story is just…okay, not as good as the first game’s but not god-awful either…Jasper is a really crappy character, though, ngl, he’s comic-book as heck and he really only just made Travis get out of retirement because of him killing Greg/Bishop…who barely mattered before in the games asides from him fetching your bike on NMH1 and running the shop in both games. It’s just kind of sad we didn’t get a better story considering how amazingly improved everything else was.

Cosmic Cat

Cosmic Cat

This is a pretty bare-bones shooter. Things move pretty fluidly, but beyond that there’s little variety in play.

The biggest irritation is that, even with a basic game like this, the developer clearly didn’t spend any real time bug-testing anything. Your number of kills never increments, and since all of the achievements are based upon number of enemies destroyed, it essentially breaks all of the achievements.

Beyond that, if you die and have to restart, it’ll call the wave you’re playing “level 1” again, but it will keep the difficulty (in terms of planets you need to destroy and enemies chasing you) at the level you were when you died. I can’t tell if earned power-ups from before still apply (i.e., roguelike), or if these are reset (which would make starting a new game at the difficulty level when you died especially unfair). It’s hard to tell because the power-ups don’t have a very significant effect (I assume you need to collect a LOT of these before they make any appreciable difference).

Hobo Cat Adventures

Hobo Cat Adventures

A fun and silly 3D platformer with a character and story aesthetic like a love letter to Conker’s Bad Fur Day. Full of silliness, over the top humor, potty mouths, flying body parts, and is a blast! Ride a chicken to get around. Zoom around on an over-caffeinated spree. Roll around with crazy physics as a Snowball. Blast a regiment of rat warriors to smithereens with bombs. Hack em to bits with a chainsaw and collect their heads as trophies. Twang your banjo. Help a very drunk duck deny the reality of his living conditions. Drink Hobo Brew until you’re pissing on plants to rejuvinate the local flora and fauna. Full of little nods and references to it’s inspirations. An overall a silly good time!

So, first of all, I have to say this game was my first Steam purchase and I don’t regret it.

The funny characters, the varied places as well as the many possibilities that the items offer always put a smile on my face.

Some of the collectibles are well hidden but not unfair. The quests that you get in the game are all very varied and do not repeat themselves.

As a German, I don’t understand the Eastereggs that are based on the Swiss streaming scene, but so it piqued my interest to take a look. It was really interesting to deal with it a little more, because I never noticed anything about it. Which of course is not surprising.

I’m pretty simple, if I see a game with a cat in it, I buy, so I didn’t realize when I bought Hellcat that it was released this month! And I also didn’t realize it was a Russian game translated to English and only had one English review lol. I figured with that considered, I would write a review for other users considering to buy the title, since there isn’t a lot of information given. I have played through the entire game, and played through level 1-7 four times. I have all of the achievements. There is ten levels overall, the first seven are solo, then a boss battle, then two levels were you must control both the Hellcat and his girlfriend, and then the end transitions into a fight against the GrandBoss. This game is very, very fastpaced and brutal. One hit will auto kill you, and there is no checkpoints, so players will go back to the very beginning of the level to try again.

Welcome to the Garden of Madness, Sudabros…

tldr; the game is great, but the port is not

–——————

The non-technical part of this port is still good, even after 14 years, the game has it’s charm. The heart and soul of the game is still here (except “Heavenly Star” is absent, but you can mod it back in), but the technical side of this port - OH THE TECHNICAL SIDE..

As you could see, most of the reviews here talk about the lack of controller support (KB+M is not an option;

! and why would you even want to play it on KB+M? ) - the game only supports XBOX360 controller, BUT DS4Windows works just fine for me.

Yes. But not yet.

the game works really well, but there’s some bugs that need fixing.

Here’s some stuff nobody else is saying:

  • A bunch of achievements are broken, specifically those that have progression tracking. The counting doesn’t work properly. Those who have the achievement “Dial M for Massacre” are using SAM… for shame guys.

  • There’s some particular segments in the game where you need to hit a target at the right time but the timing is extremely finicky if not completely broken. Luckily they are all optional, but some are tied to a certain achievement. It’s not impossible per se, but I sure avoided them like the plague.
