Poker Squadrons

Poker Squadrons

Great unique combination of poker and WWII history. You only have to understand poker hand rankings (this isn’t Texas Hold ‘em) and appreciate the Battle of Britain. Interestingly, there isn’t a an AI level setting (e.g. beginner, intermediate, expert) and it’s not necessary since the randomness of the cards dealt combined with AI provide a nice challenge. You can play for 5-10 minutes or 60 minutes easily. Graphics are good but it’s really all about the cards. Fun, economical game - highly recommended!

This is a fun little solitaire game that blends poker hands and a WWII theme. It’s very easy to learn even if you’ve never played poker before. The power up cards add a bit more strategy to the game. I’ve been playing it between my Zoom meetings and have played through the campaign twice. Definite recommend.

VR Battleship YAMATO

VR Battleship YAMATO

I’m glad I purchased this product and it was worth the wait, it’s an awesome tour of a beautiful ship, and it’s quite sad that this was lost. To my perspective, the Yamato seems smaller than I imagined. I’ve been on the Missouri, and while it’s said the Yamato is larger, I felt it was the opposite in both height and length - at least on the outside. This experience is still not entirely bug-free or perfect, but it’s very stable, and very doable for the most part. I did not think I would enjoy it as much as I did, and I’d say as far as most VR “walking sims” goes, this would have to be among the best, as it’s educational, fairly well detailed, and being able to approach the ship from afar and make your way through it provides an excellent reference of object scaling and immersion. The UI is very bare bones, and translations could be better, but it functions fine and is not hard to understand.

While on the product page it says a VR headset is required, it is not. They already patched it to support regular computer monitor. I highly recommend this….well, it is not a game but more of a virtual museum. I love navy ships and have visited several museum ships in the US, such as USS Midway, Iowa, and Lexington. These great ships were built to fight the Japanese Imperial Navy. However, none of their rivals remain existing in this world. The majority of the Japanese Imperial Navy’s ships had been sunk by the US force during the war, including Yamato. Others were either destroyed by the GHQ after the war was over or nuked during Operation Crossroads. There are no WW2 Japanese museum ships to visit. This software is the best and arguably the only way for now to visit a Japanese Navy battleship. You can see those chambers and equipment you typically can see in a US battleship museum like the Iowa, but aesthetically and functionally different as it is a Japanese design. It is a pity that the promised expansion never happened, but the content available for now still worth every penny.

Not sure how this will go as a PVP title, but as a single player WWII arena shooter it has a lot of promise

It runs well, has a decent roster of weapons and the maps have some nice variety. I’ve heard it was a team of 3 who made this game and that’s pretty solid.

The price may raise some eyebrows, but this one is worth taking a look at. It’s got a long way to go, but it runs decent and doesn’t feel like a rip off

Putt-Putt® and Fatty Bear’s Activity Pack

An Instant Childhood Classic from the Days of my Childhood which is a joy to play for Windows PCs, MS-DOS PCs & even the Panasonic 3DO Consoles in which you have 15 Different Games to play which combines Putt-Putt’s Fun Pack & Fatty Bear’s Fun Pack into one game including a 35 Page Coloring Book, in addition, it also contains 4 new games in Putt-Putt & Fatty Bear’s Activity Pack.

As for the Voices in the game, I prefer the US Version over the Japanese Version when it comes to the Panasonic 3DO Import Version.

I bought this game for my 2 yr old grandson,Elijah . . With him being 2,I of course, have to help him quite a lot and that being said I think this is a really cute game for the 10 and under crowd. . .

There are lots of activities to do in this game for older kids. Right now about all Elijah can do is the picture painting and he completely loves doing that. . . The older he gets, the more he will be able to play. . .

I think I picked this one up for 39 cents and in my opinion I would have paid up to $3.99 for it,its well worth it.Some of the activities are checkers, painting,a memory type game, word finds and a game we call “Dots”,where you have to make random lines on a grid of dots,in hopes of making boxes before your opponent does, the one with the most completed boxes by the end of the game, wins. . . And in all truth,I still play this game on paper with my 21 yr old daughter as it’s a great strategy type game. . .

Skirmish Line

Skirmish Line

In this game you will see soldiers die caused by:

-Bullets

-Explosives

-Duds

-Fire

-Friendly Fire

-Friendly Fire Fire

-Friendly Fire Grenades

-Suicide Bombers

-And his 10 other Suicide Bomber Friends

-That Crazy Ass Jap with the Sword

-TENNO HEIKA BANZAI

-An army of sword tojos like its medieval japan all over again

You will see them all die over and over and over until you are one stone-cold commander of the pacific theater.

Edit: Now for the review

Skirmish Line is a WWII Rogue-Lite, RTS wave defense simulator on a tactical level, Specifically in the pacific theater. You command the United States army while the enemy commands the Imperial Japanese forces. Each with its own arsenal at its disposal.

I thought that one negative review, which is currently the most “helpful” review, was unfair and obsolete. Which is why i decided to write a review. It definitely is like Mud And Blood 2, but in the Pacific Theater, more content, and somewhat fairer.

Some stuff that it has that Mud and Blood 2 doesn’t have:

  • Banzai Charges. Essentially waves, except it’s sometimes more or less a mix of Japanese units, and even those in the front will also join in. As one would expect, they charge and melee any soldier in their way.

Memoir ‘44 Online

Memoir ‘44 Online

This is a Pay-4-Play game with 50 free tokens, which amounts to a demo period. After the free tokens are gone, you are paying them or you are done. Oh, and if they say you lose connection before you even make your first move, those tokens you spent to play that map are gone. There is no such thing as owning this game. This is an arcade game where you need to keep pumping in the quarters to pay from now to eternity. At least Candy Crush lets you come back after a cooloff period if you don’t want to pay for immediate continue.

This is an excellent digital version of an excellent board game. It’s an enjoyable reproduction of a tabletop game that’s well executed with one glaring exception- the payment model. You can freely play two maps, but the vast majority of the game requires an in game currency that, apart from some granted when you start playing, can only be acquired by spending real money. There is no option to unlock certain maps or simply buy a full version. If you want to play again and again, which you will, you have to keep paying money.

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies is the sequel to Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol. This is not a carbon copy, however, and more was done than simply swapping models and textures.

So what’s different? Primarily the setting, although quite a few game mechanics have been changed.

As the name suggests, the game takes place in the pacific theatre of war. The only nations involved are the Empire of Japan and the United States of America. Unfortunately, this reduces the overall choice the player has, since they basically get the option of choosing Army or Navy for either nation. At least each branch has their own planes, so you’ll only see a F6F Hellcat when playing the US Navy or a P38 Lightning when playing the US Army.

This is one of those games that seem to divide people.

The original Ace Patrol was an excellent game with a mobile phone game feel to it but this is just a bit more polished and strangely not quite as much fun to play, that said it’s not a bad game by any means.

Question Time

Do you like games that repeatedly crash for no reason?

Do you like to play games that put historical accuracy to one side and act like only the Japanese and American fought in the Pacific?

Do you like turn based games?

Do you like simple to play but hard to master games that feel like a mobile game?

War Birds: WW2 Air strike 1942:

This game brings the old school content we all love from this genre and tidies it up in 2.5D maps then mixes it up with strategy.

I found myself quite liking this game as it makes you think more than the old school variety.

I suggest you check the options menu for two things, one/ the sound was on min on both music and sound effects. two/ check the controls.

You are not limited in flight direction with this game so you can move around 360 degrees. And it also offers up and down pitch movement.

Calm Down, Stalin - VR

It is fun and stressful, but feels impossible to complete, i rage quit frequently because difficulty doesn’t build up well, once you learn the basic mechanics you are thrown into multitasking 4 things at once. It’s very fun, but you don’t feel like you will be able to complete it, which leads be to quitting the game a lot.
