Flight Control HD

Flight Control HD

Flight Control HD is a game that is so incredibly simplistic that it might have come out back in the days of Pong. It’s a game where you guide airplanes and helicopters to color coded landing pads and that’s about it. Landing your very first plane and your very last one will be exactly the same. The game never changes in any meaningful way and it shouldn’t take you more than a couple of minutes to realize that it’s nothing but the same simple grind from start to finish.

The controls are made for a touchscreen but shouldn’t frustrate you too much, the graphics are the classic mobile ones, not exactly ugly but very unfulfilled on a PC monitor.

Despite being an 11 year old port of a 12 year old game, Flight Control HD continues to be a fun time-waster to keep your hands and mind busy.

Using your mouse or touch-screen you guide the various aircraft to their respective runways and landing pads. the difficulty comes from the difference in speed each plane/helicopter moves at, forcing you to carefully estimate where every plane will be in several seconds time, especially as the screen fills up with more planes.

The “play 200 games” Veteran achievement took me the longest time and required about 20 hours of play to reach legitimately and that might put some off looking to achievement hunt with this game but if you go into it looking for a casual time-waster you won’t be disappointed.

That’s Mahjong!

That’s Mahjong!

THIS. IS. MAHJONG! kicks tiles into pit So, full disclosure, I really like mahjong. I have a set in real life and have long been on the hunt for a version to replace the old windows one (good job Microsoft, you ruined the base windows games, way to catastrophically fail to fix what wasn’t broken).

Good

-slick presentation, nice and simple

-no BS

-decent music and the tile clicks are very satisfying

-priced right

Bad

-builds the stack randomly. Means you can loose a game due to the last two tiles being on top of each other or have a game start with no possible moves. This makes me way more annoyed than it should, it would be so easy to fix

That’s Mahjong! is classic Mahjong game, stress free xD with loads of different themes to choose and levels (that are all unlocked from the begining), plus different languages to be selected in the game - Serbian also. It also has trading cards and achievements that are easy to get + interesting emoticons from crafting badges. Game that brings up memories from the childhood as one of the first games we played in that time. I recomend it to everyone :)

Cut the Rope

I really love this game and I rarely leave a negative review, but I’m just frustrated.

I don’t mind buying it to play on my laptop. I only paid $2, but no updates, no achievements, literally no effort put into doing anything other than a bare bones port is just pathetic.

There have been no News posts and not a single update since the game was posted to Steam in 2013! Not even News posts touting new mobile games in the series or sales on this game.

If ever they come back to this and put some effort or new levels in, I’ll change my review, but seeing as they seemingly haven’t even logged in to their Steam to post News since the initial release I won’t be holding my breathe. What a waste.

I like the game very well, it can only recommend! But even better, if Zeptolab adds the remaining level boxes and as DLC the 3 power-ups! And with remaining level boxes I mean …

  • Spooky box

  • Steam box

  • Lantern box

  • Cheese box

  • Pillow box

  • Mechanics box

And with the power-ups …

  • Om Noms superpower

  • Level solution

  • Magnetic force

Zeptolab, it would be great if you add the rest of the level boxes via update and as DLC the power-ups :) Otherwise top game.

REVIEW

Gravity Badgers is a short and simple game. The one mechanic revolves around launching your character at the perfect angle in each level to collect all 3 pickups and reach the exit. There are some decent songs and the artwork is appealing, but boiled-down there isn’t really too much going on for this game. Nevertheless, the appeal of it, to me, was this inherent simplicity. Sometimes I enjoy a very simple game with a singular mechanic, especially in an instance where I may need to stop playing at any moment. This game fills that niche quite well. If that sounds like an itch you may want to scratch, this game can do the trick… but if you are looking for a game with any depth at all, you won’t be finding it here.

It feels weird doing this for a game which I’ve actually gone through and completely beaten/gotten 100% of the achievements for, but I can’t really recommend Gravity Badgers.

Gravity Badgers is a simple puzzle game where you choose initial direction and velocity of your character, and then their trajectory will change based off of the type of planets you’re near (some attracting, some repelling). You’re attempting to direct your character to a warp at the end of the level, optionally picking up 3 items along the way.

Puzzler World

Puzzler World

Puzzler World is a collection of over 1000 puzzles. Some of them are easier, some are harder - but you can acess half of them at any point. Second half are bonus challenges, paired with regular ones. You unlock them by completing first one from the pair.

There are 14 challenges, like crosswords, spot the diffrence, wordsearches, hangman ect. It may seem boring, but completing it is both fun, and challenge.

After each game (both regular and bonus), you pick a present. It may contain a hint, or a letter (7 of them grant you with around 100 hints). Hints are aviable only in regular challenges, and they provide a bit of help when you need it. They are divided into 3 groups: 5, 10 and 20. The more expensive the set is, the bigger is help, and effects vary in diffrent challenges.

It’s a reasonably fun diversion, but there are a few things that make it so that I can’t recommend it. First and foremost being that it’s not too hard to find puzzles of a similar ilk online for free – and often with better interfaces. (Just compare the Link-a-Pix in the game to the same found on Conceptis’s own website.) The second problem is that some of the games aren’t really puzzles per se… showing the user a picture and asking them to memorize it for three questions isn’t a puzzle, it’s just a memory test. It’s not a puzzle unless one has to puzzle something out. Memorization is just an irritation. There’s also a staggering difference in apparent audience between puzzles; the Codeword puzzle is clearly meant for advanced puzzlers, while Silhouette is obviously set for the grade school crowd, but they’re all mixed in together.

Animated Puzzles

Animated Puzzles

Animated Puzzles is an enjoyable game for all levels- ranging from an easy puzzle with only a few pieces to 800+ pieces. Each puzzle has a “pull out” tray which stores the unplaced pieces but it still allows you to lay pieces onto the puzzle “board” without placing them, which is similar to a real jigsaw puzzle.

This game allows the player to choose from many included puzzles (several levels of difficulty), plus the workshop has even more high quality, user created puzzles to download for free.

Real player with 242.5 hrs in game

This is the definitive jigsaw puzzle game. There are plenty of puzzles across 3 levels of difficulty with a half dozen piece shapes to choose from which can further tailor your difficulty level. The music is relaxing. The interface is easy to use. The pieces can be rotated. Once you have placed connecting pieces together they stay together. The images are varied and nice to look at. The animated backgrounds actually make the puzzles a little easier. The only downside to this game is that it ends when you finish the puzzles, which will take quite a while to do. But even that has an upside in Workshop support with plenty of puzzles to choose from. This is really a great game. It contains all the joy of putting together puzzles without the physical space requirements or missing pieces.

Jack Lumber

Jack Lumber

Fun little game to pass the time. Definitely a touch screen tablet game, but still transitions well with mouse movement. You are Jack, your nanny was killed by a tree and you must chop down trees until you avenge her death.

Each level throws you tree limbs to chop up. Some are easy and straight some harder and U-shaped. It gets harder as you progress. Some require you chop them a specific direction while others need to be chopped multiple times. It continues to add a variety of increased difficulty to accomplish the chopping of wood before you run out of time.

♥ Silly story.

I found it amusing, the story of the passing of his granny and need to be the best lumberjack, without finding it vulgar or overdone. It’s silly, it’s fun, and it ended up drawing me in! A very well done story, I appreciate the fact that it seems like it was crafted with care.

♥ Adorable graphics.

I love being able to decorate my cabin, click the animals, and dress up Jack. The game is really cute without being filled with neon colors or over the top designs. I think it fits with the game well!

Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey

Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey

Ever since Bookworm Adventures, I’ve long been a sucker for the word making adventure game genre. While I’ve never been able to properly engage in a game of Scrabble, I love the gameplay that this particular genre of game affords.

When I first heard of Letter Quest they were trying to get onto Steam via Greenlight. After much deliberation I picked up a copy of this game via the Humble Store. I fell in love with it instantly.

I didn’t have much time to play through this game though, so after playing a while put it aside and waited for Valve to greenlight this. It sure took Valve an inexplicably long wait, but here are the fruits of two men’s (and a lot of Greenlight voters') hard work!

Game Summary:

Having gotten the remastered edition of this game, it included the original version as well. Since the remastered version would be bigger and better, I decided to play this version first, lest I’d never want to go back and play it. The developers allowing people who got the remastered version to play the original version without an additional cost seems promising to me, and I’ll keep them in mind if I am ever in the market for a new game. Admittedly, the game wasn’t without its flaws, and I’m curious to see how they improved upon it, but I certainly found plenty to enjoy here. I would describe the game as basically a Scrabble-like experience with RPG elements. You have 15 letters from which you’re able to spell out words, with certain conditions coming into play in every battle you fight. As you progress through the game, you develop your abilities and acquire new equipment, which you’ll need to beat more powerful enemies, regardless of how well you can smith words.
