This is not a dream, Samorost 1 remastered, in a really masterful way! One precious little gem saved from the doom of Flash, with beautifully refreshed graphics, improved animation and crispy sound, and all come for free! Hats off for Amanita Studio for saving Samorost 1, a game that has a special place in my heart.

Some elements I really love about Samorost 1:

  1. The microscopic scenery, which reminds you of a summer day trip to the forest after a rain. I think the later games never had this charm totally the same.

Is there ray tracing technology just for AAA-class games?

no!

Nowadays, you can easily create ray tracing compatible games using Unity.

Isn’t it okay to use ray tracing in a simple mini-game?

With that in mind, I made 10 crispy pieces.

Heres a review for this game as it is now released. As an early access user, I HIGHLY reccomend this game. This game is where you play as Kotel and you and your friends have to save Durka, the princess of Gigacrush. Despite the only gameplay is throwing rakes at things, that gameplay is fun and addicting. There are nine fun levels packed tight with enemies, platforming, and a ton of blocks filled with coins. Another thing is that this is really optimized for a game with this much physics goin on and has a bunch of settings for computers on both the high and low ends. This game is a hidden gem and recommend that you play it sometime

  • Creative

  • Atmospheric

  • Annoying sounds

  • (Arguably) too short for the price

This is exactly what it looks like: a game where you look at things, poke them, and then watch what happens. It’s linear, with each small vignette playing out a set narrative and then disappearing. Sometimes the game really worked for me. The dev has a great imagination, and the liminal spaces on display (parking lots, ATMs, fountains) are explored in delightful ways that blend the mechanical with the organic.

One downside is that the environments feel fixed. You can’t look up or down, just rotate the scenery. Your impact on each scene is quite limited; it isn’t always clear whether your clicking is the reason you’ve moved on to the next “stage” of a level or if it’s just timed. I used my laptop’s touchscreen, which was definitely more immersive than just clicking around, but interaction still felt constained at times and the objects weren’t that responsive to touch. The game is missing that tactile feeling you get from similar games like Windosill or Metamorphabet, where you can click, drag, and relocate almost anything onscreen.

Self-Checkout Unlimited

Self-Checkout Unlimited

First of all SCU made me feel a bit nostalgic–the way your steps sound on different surfaces and in different areas, dim lights of the first part, vast, empty building you can explore–all of that reminded me of one of the old stealth series that I still keep playable on my PC. SCU feels like something completely new and very familiar at the same time. Visuals, music and, especially, sounds create overall atmosphere of the game that is well integrated with its plot.

Game play is also done well-though plot is linear in general, you’re able to choose your own pace and you don’t have to run around the whole area looking for triggers or items you need without any clues.

You know, all I ever play is Dota2 and visual novels. So, I’d never try Self-Checkout Unlimited if this game weren’t made by my fav devs. They created nice stories and then suddenly changed the genre, I just had to give it a try.

At first, I was deeply convinced it’s not my thing. It was so annoying not to know what to do, where to go. I play games mainly to relax, to enjoy reading in foreign for me English language. But here… Mainly, it’s a walking simulator. There’re some choices tho and you can choose in the settings if the voices gonna have the subtitles. So it WAS kind of reading xD

100 hidden snails 2

100 hidden snails 2

This game is better suited for a child probably 6 to 12 years old (imho) than an adult. The first 50 you find on black/white artwork and all the snails are inside the artwork somewhere. At 50, the artwork colors itself in (and it is truly beautiful) and 51 through 100 can be anywhere on the screen. Took me less than 5 minutes to find the first 50. The second 50 were a bit harder only because I didn’t realize at first they were not “restricted” to the artwork itself like the first 50. I have .9 hours listed as my play time only because I got up several times last night to walk away and give my eyes a rest while I searched for the last piece that was proving elusive. Too easy in my opinion and I won’t be buying any of the other ones offered now.

Real player with 0.9 hrs in game

100 Hidden Snails 2 is a very simple hidden object puzzle. Find 100 hidden objects in a large 2D line drawing of a factory. The whole thing might as well be done in a web browser. This one differs from the others in the series by having two stages, after the first 50 snails, the puzzle is redrawn in colour and you must locate the remaining snails (much more difficult due to how much busier the image has become).

There’s just not enough gameplay or enjoyment in this to recommend anyone should pay for something this simple, short, and unengaging. Steam is for video games, not Where’s Waldo books.

AlienAfterlife

AlienAfterlife

So you die in a hospital while a doctor fiddles with his iPad and ascend into the great unknown. Only things never go that smoothly do they? Alien terrorists who I assume are against the idea of reincarnation decide to suicide bomb your afterlife waiting room before you get shipped off to be reborn.

Now you have to take matters into your own hands and rebuild the device so you can be birthed once again.

Sounds simple enough right?

PROS

  • Jeremy Couillard. I am fast becoming a fan of this guy. That’s 2 for 2 now that I have played of his that have just weirded me out, made for some excellent wtf screenshots and have just all round channelled what it is I like about art in general….which to be honest is generally not knowing anything.

Review:

I enjoyed Alien Afterlife quite a bit. It’s the kind of experience that I played once, then played again, and now that it’s sat with me, I’ll probably go in and play it a third time.

THAT SAID, I think it’s important to emphasize that just like the game’s description mentions, it’s not for everyone, and I found it useful to go into it thinking of the game as something of an art installation as much as (or more than) a game. For that reason I’m also going to stray away from my opinions of the story since I think given the type of experience it is, that kinda thing should be fully open to a player’s interpretation.

Very “Casual” Game with a little anxiety when passing through traps, the best thing about this game is the scenery 1000% looks very breath taking in the snowy levels. Only down side is probably the amount of repetitive 3x3 puzzles.

Real player with 0.7 hrs in game

Apart from the music and the artwork, which I liked a lot, there isn’t much to enjoy. The game is way too easy, way too short and quite boring. It takes about 30 - 40 minutes to finish the game.
