InFlux Redux

InFlux Redux

InFlux Redux is a high-definition remaster of the 2013 puzzler InFlux , built on a brand new engine with improved graphics and physics, and completely rewritten game code.

InFlux is a puzzle game that mixes exploration and platforming in a series of beautiful natural and abstract environments. You are a mysterious metal sphere which falls from the sky, traversing an apparently deserted island dotted with cubic structures of glass and steel. Each glasshouse is a puzzle to be solved. Redux is prettier, more polished, and more performant than the original!

  • Roll your way through a series of beautiful and varied naturalistic environments

  • Discover and solve a sequence of mind-bending cubic puzzle structures

  • Forge an alliance with a majestic and enigmatic humpback whale

  • Enjoy an extensive original soundtrack by composer Jonathan Yandel

  • Experience the game that Andy Sum, creator of Crossy Road, described as “So beautiful I cried. Twice” when prompted to say something flattering about it

Castle of Illusion

Castle of Illusion

One of the best remakes I’ve ever played.

The original game was one of the most iconic titles on the Sega Genesis, it was 1990 so the Sonic games weren’t released yet. The colorful graphics, big Mickey sprite and super detailed animation were an spectacle for that period in time when most people were used to simple 8 bit graphics. Plus, the gameplay was solid and the Disney magic was captured perfectly.

This remake impressed me since it managed to accurately retain the essence of the original despite the graphics modernization and the little gameplay changes.

Let me start by saying that the old school Castle of Illusion on Genesis / Mega Drive remains one of my favorite platformers today.

Let me also say that I was hugely, hugely, hugely disappoint by DuckTales Remastered, which I found boring and lazily done.

So I went into this with low expectations … I mean, how do you live up to a classic? Not sure it’s possible, but I was extremely please with the updated Castle of Illusion on Steam. Great game. It does an excellent job taking the source material as inspiration and trying to update it without shitting all over it.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake

Panzer Dragoon: Remake

I discover Panzer Dragoon in 2003, when Orta, the fourth episode launched on the original X-Box. Back then I was amazed by the level of creativity of this game in terms of esthetism, soundtrack, lore, and gameplay. This title offered to the players who completed it in the Pandora’s Box the first opus released on the Sega Saturn in 1995. Of course, I tried it, if only to know what were the roots of one of my favorite title on the first Microsoft system. Sure, it already had aged quite a bit at the time, but It hadn’t take me long to fully realize the magic was already there.

When Panzer Dragoon: Remake launched on Nintendo Switch over a year ago, the game wasn’t in the best shape. Numerous technical issues plagued the game, along with missing features, leading to Forever Entertainment releasing a series of patches throughout 2020. Now that the game has stabilised, we’re in a better position to look at how Panzer Dragoon: Remake holds up as a finished game.

Graphics

MegaPixel Studio, who developed the game, is a relatively small studio and used the Unity engine to develop the game. The result is a game that looks good, but isn’t AAA quality, it’s something between an AAA and indie game. But if you keep your expectations with the mindset that this is smaller budget game, you can expect to play and be impressed by a modern looking version of the original Panzer Dragoon.

DuckTales: Remastered

DuckTales: Remastered

Pogo everything. Leave no survivors.

I was too young to play Capcom’s Ducktales when it originally came to the NES back in 1990 (I was two years old then), but I made up for it by playing the game constantly when it was available on the NEStalgia online emulator a few years back.

What a treat, then, that Ducktales Remastered (a port/remake developed by Wayforward Technologies) is light-years ahead of the original version. I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that this is a faithful remake that does justice to the license while throwing a boatload of extra content for longtime fans.

I’m downvoting this game with extreme prejudice because it has a crash bug which has been left unaddressed for over a year: players who have Nvidia cards with up-to-date drivers will find that the game will always freeze on the final boss. It seems that some recent version of Nvidia drivers broke some graphic effects in late-game cutscenes. Unfortunately, the rights to this game are a royal cluster of bureaucracy between Disney, CAPCOM, and WayForward, and nobody seems interested in addressing the issue, or even acknowledging that this game exists anymore. Basically, if you don’t have access to a PC without an Nvidia card, do not buy this game, as you will not be able to finish it without skipping specific cutscenes and using weird workarounds.

WOW I was shocked at how fun this was! I never played this as a kid but I was a massive fan of spongebob growing up. So naturally I picked this up for nostalgia reasons. the critics say this is a bad glitchy game but i never experienced one glitch and i had a fantastic time! difficulty is perfectly balanced, story is cute and fun (just what you would expect from spongebob :D) and it was extremely creative! I cant wait for the sequel!

Fairy Fire - Defender of the Fairies

Shoot your way through a side scrolling dungeon filled with evil creatures and pick up fairies to escort them to safety. I must say, there is nothing more satisfying than killing with a flame thrower!

For this price, you get a fast paced side-scoller (just like the description says) which is really well done.

It makes fun, the upgrades do make sense and are well-balanced, some types of enemies need a different way of approach in order to defeat them, which increases the difficulty of this game.

If you´re looking for a challenge, get this game. If not, still get this game!

Skool Daze Reskooled

Skool Daze Reskooled

Absolutely loved this game back in the day (is my favourite) and was absolutely delighted to download it on Steam. However, very glitchy/buggy, teachers and pupils are able to walk through walls/climb stairs and go off the screen eg Mr Wacker climbs the stairs from the white room to his office and carries on through the roof of the skool and disappears, or Einstein disappears and I can’t get Mr Creaks part of the code. I’m also unable to select the aliasing option.

I liked the option where I was able to change the keyboard functions/commands, learning how to aim with the water pistol in the tutorial took some getting used but once you get the hang of it I found it to be fine (i’m using a Mac). Overal, I really like the game (downloaded 24th August) but it’s become unplayable and frustrating because of the glitches/bugs encountered.

Finished all three schools… The problem is you need to finish Skool Daze to get Back To Skool and Nu Skool on and it’s the most frustrating. Get past that though and it’s fairly smooth sailing. The code thing from back in the day is ridiculous in 2020 mind (get codes from the teacher and work out the order… clue - use the headteacher’s number first. The game will not tell you this).

Good fun overall if you remember it back in the 80’s. Everyone else might be scratching their heads though.
