Windosill

If you are a parent of a very young child, this is a great game to play with someone in your lap, or just to get young minds moving. A magical and safe game for younger users. The game starts in a dark room. Players click around on semi-lit objects until they notice a bulb shape… it turns on the light! Clicking around more makes a series of things happen until you can find a small cube hidden in each room and maneuver it as a key to opening each exit door.

I first bought this game on a laptop with a touch screen (much like a modern iPad). My children loved exploring a magical world that changed as it was explored. A kind of intriguing “escape the room” type of puzzle surprisingly isn’t too short and keeps the player wanting to explore. My kids and I had a lot of fun solving the rooms.

This is a cute game to play to relax. I bet the kids around would enjoy to play something like this

Graphics: If you’re an adult, then chances are the graphics will bring your childhood back. The look of it is like combining pieces of construction paper, and have it come to life.

Gameplay: The goal of each puzzle is coming across or producing a square that fits in the hole on top of the door, then being able to get your little cart through the door. It’s more of an interactive child’s puzzle that gets harder overtime.

Samorost 2

Samorost 2

Ok so here is my review for Samorost 2.

Art Like the other Samorost games Samorost 2 has some amazing art. It is a little more hand drawn looking than 3 whether this is a pro or a con is up to you but I personally enjoy it and it has a nice feel all around. The art is very consistent and really flows from one place to another. Everything has a nice mix of the look of a picture, an abstract world and random items in the everyday world. The only gripe I have about the art is the lack of screen shots. I really wish you could take screen shots in this game and I would really like it if they added that (don’t expect them to because of the platform its running on and the fact that it’s an older game). Although it is really a con I would still totally recommend the game.

Samorost 2 is short. It’s going to resonate differently with each individual. I personally found nothing particularly fantastic about it. The original Samorost sets itself apart by using close-up photographs of various objects, mostly forestial, to create the illusion of large landscapes. Samorost 2 relies more on a traditional hand-drawn approach, and struggles to be as visually interesting as the first game, which is available for free on the Amanita Design website.

Samorost 2’s music, as usual for an Amanita game, is top-notch, and one of its highlights.

“Drop Blox”

“Drop Blox”

Its very hard to recommend this game at this stage. The idea behind the game is simple and can be enjoyable, but the execution was just lacking. The controls were annoying, there are multiple instances that a little flick upward would send the blocks out of the box therefore failing the level for you. I understand that this is so the player is more conscious about his movements but there were just too many blocks thrown accidentally during my playtime. The environment looks bland and unimaginative. I know their not supposed to take your attention away from the actual game but they just look too generic and empty at most. From the main menu, there’s New Game and Load Game. New Game lets you start from the beginning while the Load Game instantly loads up your previous game. And this is absurd, if you misclick the New Game, you’re basically back to zero and in no way can return to the previous level. A better way would’ve been just to list all the available levels and let us choose which one to play.

Casual puzzle - buggy - unpolished = Feels like a post office with matching block colors with color of customer. In the 2nd stage, no one tried to pick up the blocks and lost due to the fill up.

Got me hooked, seems overwhelming at first but it’s incredibly simple once you keep going for literally a few secs. Can be a bit hard but I’m still trying to get better at it the more I know and see. Curious little game to chill for a quick run.

Bayou Island - Point and Click Adventure

Bayou Island - Point and Click Adventure

Good production values, but way too short, and ending is too rushed

Now, I was pleasantly surprised with this game’s graphics, sound and music - they are of quite high quality, especially the backdrops and music, which were both very nice, and fit each other very well. All dialogues are also fully voiced (with the exception of a few here ‘n’ there - not sure if that’s due to a bug causing the sound to not activate, or whether the developer just didn’t insert audio files for those particular sentences, for whatever reason), including your character’s commentary on every single interactive item.

No boats were harmed in the making of this review.

Story

You play a cruise ship captain named Chris that somehow arrived at this mysterious island. How did you get here? Where is your boat? Explore to find various odd ball characters and items to find out.

As you talk to the other residents, learning that this island is named Bayou Island, you learn what goes on in the first area. Everyone here seemed to have washed up on the shore not knowing how they could of. There is also a correlation with boats disappearing as well. However Chris is a different story, having another passenger with him.

Candy land

Candy land

Candy Land is a “template flip”, that is to say, it’s a “game” that has been produced by copying a game template from GameMaker Studio, changing a few things, then dumping the barely functional “product” on Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. In this case it was a GameMaker Studio template for doing a simple “memory” card matching game. Phoenixx Games have a nasty track history of ripping off GameMaker Studio templates as cheap cash grabs on Steam, just like this one.

GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and results in terrible games like this one.
