I absolutely love this game. I find it very relaxing. Well, maybe not relaxing… as it also gives me anxiety. Let me explain: this game lights up every single one of my OCD receptors. Straighten up a room? Yes, please! Pick up all the trash? Ding, ding, ding! Remove/fix problems? Now we’re cooking with gas! Pick up all the “whatever” of that specific group? Bingo! Yahtzee! We’ve got a winner!

And then the anxiety sinks in: I am way too excited about this. This is giving me waaaaaay too much joy. I may need to find a therapist. This can’t be normal.

Warlock Bentspine - Toilet Edition

Warlock Bentspine - Toilet Edition

It took me awhile to figure out that there were upgrades, but after I did, LOVED IT!

nothing especially bad about this game, but it almost seems to pride itself on being lackluster. It’s competently made and fairly polished, but I can’t help but feel like there was a great game just beneath the surface that didn’t come to fruition.

it’s not particularly fun, but it wasn’t annoying enough for me to stop playing. music is good, sprites are charming but poorly colored. level design is pretty standard fare, systems (upgrades, weapons) are intriguing but don’t make up for the repetitive and uninteresting enemy behaviors.

IRENE.HOUSE

IRENE.HOUSE

IRENE.HOUSE is a creative exhibition featuring the sculptor, Irene June. Based on a series of conversations with June, this project explores their relationships to home, ancestry and dreams.

IRENE.HOUSE features a HUD-less design and no playable or NPC characters for an immersive, spatial experience. This project also features performances made in collaboration with Irene, conversation snippets, and camera roll footage.

ABOUT IRENE JUNE

Irene June engages in sculpture and ritual to create sites of generational healing and spiritual reverence. Using culturally specific materials such as incense, and funerary joss papers, June’s work often invokes animal and geologic forms in relation to the landscape of their personal human experience.

Long Tail

Long Tail

edit: full screen mode and reduced screen shake.

long tail is a minimalist draw a single line puzzler with a twist. normally these take place on a grid, gotta find a way to cover all the tiles, maybe even connect dots of different colors, etc. in this case though, you’re collecting coins scattered around all sorts of layouts by dashing around, no grid to stick to. sounds like a cakewalk, you say? well…

Real player with 6.2 hrs in game

I like it, it feels like the real challenge is to get a “coin” (didn’t know coins could be square) on every line but the game doesn’t force you to complete it like that, which is good because getting a coin on each line can be insanely hard even at the early levels. Good visuals for a small little game like this, really like that you emit light which shows you where you can shoot.

Stonescape

Stonescape

I couldn’t say enough to properly convey my utter disappointment in a game that I am feeling right now writing this review. I will not go on a rant and sound too whiney. Stay away, maybe put it on your watchlist and see if they add something worthwhile, currently its a creative mode game with 21 building blocks to choose from. The lag is real with this game.

Real player with 0.4 hrs in game

F**** NO not worth it, so many other games cheaper that are worth mine and your time. No game options at all, you get new game, continue and quit. When you are collecting stone with pickaxe the only item you have with no inventory your fps drops down to 6 fps for a short moment. So you collect stone and build that’s the whole game.

The Adventurous Four

The Adventurous Four

The Adventurous Four is the sequel to Wild Island Quest, a choice’s matter visual novel game by NLB Project.

The game starts with you (Henry) snuggled up to your newly wedded wife in bed, with your dog Snoopy at the foot of the bed. You are woken by Snoopy as he barks at someone ringing the doorbell, disturbing your Sunday morning lie in. You crawl out of your pit and go to check who is at the door at this time of the morning. It’s Doyle, a friend of yours, who seems excited and starts to explain why he’s here so early. He says that he’s just finished his project which he’s been working on for the last three years and wants you and your wife, Irene, to be one of the first to see it.

A ‘choose your own adventure’ with very few actual choices, but that’s not really important or why I quite enjoyed this. First the story starts rather normally although something was slightly off with the characters or setting. The story dialogue is stiff and feels like it’s been maybe translated to english but nothing too out of the ordinary although it gradually becomes an outright wacky adventure that doesn’t seem to involve good storytelling or decent character dialog. And this is where it begins to shine. The rather charming if unintentionally funny 3d models, their poses and facial expressions, odd narrative choices and descriptions that range from the oddly mundane to comically over the top and often somewhat inappropriate.

The List

The List

“The List” is a mystery game where you search and watch video clips from a police database in an attempt to solve a cold murder case.

The mechanics are very similar to “Her Story”. You have access to a database of video clips showing the answers of a crime victim during several interrogation sessions in a police department. You can search this database by entering single words, and the database will show you the first 5 clips in which the person uttered that word. Finding new clips gives you new ideas for search terns, such as the names of people or places. As you find more and more clips, your understanding of the case grows, though you still have to do a lot of interpretation and deductive reasoning (partly because you don’t have access to the policeman’s questions). What’s nice and really helpful, is that each clip you have viewed will automatically be added to a timeline, where you can rewatch clips in their correct chronological order.

Real player with 10.8 hrs in game

The List is another addition to the FMV mystery search type, where the player has to piece together a set of clips to ultimately solve the mystery surrounding the main character. If you liked games like “Telling Lies” and “Her Story” this is for you.

The design of the game itself follows those games in which you have some limited case information, a database, a search function and a series of videos of a one sided interrogation to piece together. This was decently done, with a few hiccups in it’s search terms (There was a typo in one of the clips) or the general vagueness of terms, where words might have a tense that you must acknowledge otherwise no results can show. I felt that maybe the developer could have changed some of the terms for a few of the clips.
