StoneTide: Age of Pirates

StoneTide: Age of Pirates

Been playing this game for a couple days now and I gotta say it’s been a real joy. Despite the bugs, it seems very promising with lots to expand on. For a $10 early access title, I say its well worth it and I look forward to seeing what this game will have to offer in the future.

imagine, if you will, you spent ten dollars on a map, which led to a oversized treasure chest filled with coins. and each singular coin represented an early access title infesting steam. now imagine each coin is crap, because early access is a curse, but every so often, while sifting though the fake coins, you come across a pristine, good one. one which is a keeper. one that, despite a few flaws or rough edges, is still worthy of your time. when you take that coin, and close the chest, you realize. this game is that coin. and the ten dollars you invested were worth it.

This is a really fun little game! I think i got it in a bundle, and it has become one of my go-to games when i only have a few mins available to play. The games are quick, animations are cute, easily worth the couple dollars price tag.

Cute, funny version of good old Battleship. The little cakes react to what’s happening on the board, and the various avatars (you can pick yours, the opponent gets a random one when playing against the AI) also have their own reaction. Makes me smile. :)

The background screen is also interactive, stuff happens when you click on it. Overall very playful, friendly style. :)

You can play against an AI with 3 difficulty options, and there’s the option to play against someone on Steam, worldwide, or LAN. I just tested the worldwide one so I can finally post this review, and it was fun. :) (I lost.) There’s a 30 sec timer per turn, that resets when you hit a cake. (I wonder where I can enter my name though, it just said ‘Player’, while the other player had a name shown.)

Battle Group 2

Battle Group 2

If you love old school type action shooters such as Battleships or 1942 then you’re going to love Battle Group 2 as it combines the best of those, it’s so easy to just pick up and play with no complicated controls or instructions and with minimal setup as well so you’ll be up and playing in a couple of minutes. In fact it’s such a breeze that any fool can play it.

This is strictly a single player game with 30 stages in the campaign and starts off very easy and gets progressively more difficult with each stage that you complete, there are no difficulty options so everyone plays the same game. Each stage is very short and your job is to control a single ship at the start and two ships after your have upgraded to fend off various waves of planes and helicopters which can be shot down with your ships guns or missiles which can also be upgraded at the end of every stage when your scores and rewards are displayed. You control a primary ship which is your main weapon and a support ship which offers backup and there are a total of 8 ships that you can collect and use throughout the game.

Despite the name, there really is not much “navy” involved except the overall setting. What this really is is skeet shooting. You don’t move, you simply mow down defenders before they can reach you, much like the good old “Missile Command” except your perspectives shift a bit: enemies can now come from the sides, top, bottom, even from behind. AND you get a secondary ship with some fancy stuff like missile decoy, escort fighters, and so on. And then there are special abilities such as satellite support (i.e. zap all the missiles or all the enemies at once), then there are the boss fights.

Very interesting to buy appropriate units and upgrades depending on each mission, you would quickly surpass the enemy. But it gets boring not to see any Japanese ship’s image. Please update Japanese carriers instead of using the same icon for US and IJN carriers.

Her Majesty’s Ship

First, this game is not FTL on wooden ships. This game is a real-time management/strategy game with no tactical pause. The game is very similar to FTL but has a more MACRO approach to crew management then the Micro approach that FTL had.

I really enjoy this game and it is a great game. My game preferences run towards turn-based and tactical pause games. I really do not like RTS games whatsoever.

Although this game is a real-time strategy game at its core, it is very manageable and approachable. This game has captivated me.

Her Majesty’s Ship - Troubled Waters but hopefully smoother sailing on the horizon

I am recommending this title mainly because I really like the idea behind it - managing a ship of the Royal Navy in detailed fashion - but have reservations in doing so.

The game is all too brief at this point and I have noted that other players have requested an endless mode, a correction I heartily endorse and support.

Combat is rather too simplistic and does seem dependent upon RNG factors, outside of already having a vessel well-stocked with powder and eventually a complement of marines.

MODERN NAVAL COMBAT

MODERN NAVAL COMBAT

This game is a naval battle simulation real-time strategy game.

Our goal is to restore as far as possible a long-sea battle from the 1970s to around 2020. Tired of bombarding the battleship’s main gun? Let’s get some high-tech.

camp:

The Chinese navy that has developed rapidly since the 21st century

Old but still very deadly Russian Navy

And the unparalleled U.S. Navy

unit:

Each camp has almost all marine equipment from the 1960s, which refers to the first three decades of the 21st century.

Uncharted Ocean

Uncharted Ocean

I have a few pros and cons to list:

  • This game is awesome and it takes me back to Uncharted Waters (which is a game I really love)

  • The devs seem to care about making the game better (The gripes about not seeing the whole world are real)

  • Really upped the game on the trading. I also love the auto sail feature!

  • Officers really make a difference in combat

  • The favor system. Trying to gather favor items can be a pain in the back side

  • Localization needs a bit of work

-The UI is frustrating at times. Just try to figure out how to see your stats on an officer on duty sometime…

Having been a huge fan of UWO for over a decade, I just couldn’t resist buying this game, and so far it is proving to be what i was hoping for. By this I mean:

  • A simpler, more relax, stand alone version of UWO.

  • A relaxing, simple, yet interesting game I can easily play for 15 mn before heading to work, or 8 hrs straight during the week end.

To be fair, so fare the content is still a bit lacking, I am really looking forward to the time at witch the dev will open up the 3 little dungeons you can find on the existing map, as well as wen the rest of the content will be added. I want to be able to continue on the main quest, as well as seek some higher profit by accessing India, and Asia.

One of those games that confirms what I’ve always thought… If I like the basic gameplay, then I’ll keep on returning to that game. I find this game addictive. Apart from one game to try it, I haven’t bothered with the Classic mode. I just play Commanders.

Including the DLC there are seven commanders and eight maps (eight including the classic square map). Each commander has the same three special abilities (Mine, Sonar, Bomb), plus one ability unique to that commander. To use those abilities you need points. You automatically gain two points at the start of each round, plus one point for each occasion one of your ships is struck by your opponent. Each commander has some differently shaped ships. The game keeps a record of your stats., and there are always missions (eg Win two games in a row) that allow you to level up. Levelling up doesn’t actually change the gameplay in any way, but it is something else to aim for.

This has become one of my go-to games to sit with some friends and just laugh and have fun. There is a little bit of a learning curve with the controls but it isn’t frustrating. The only real frustration you get is when your friends edge you out. I would like to see more game modes in the future; however, what the game currently has is more than enough for some hours of entertainment with friends.

The local multiplayer can support up to 8 friends or bots and is definitely a joy with more people. Simple yet extremely entertaining.

English(i’m not excellent at english): I don’t tried the game for too long,I TOTALLY recommend it to you if you don’t have any friends to play with or if do you have them(in my case I use Parsec to play online),very nice playing singlepayer. Very nice soundtrack and in my opinion the experience is much better with a controller rather than with a keyboard

Total FRUSTRATION! Ui is gamer unfriendly. You start out with default chosen units IN CAMPAIGNS. You CANNOT change them. In scenarios YES but not campaigns. Why NOT allow the player to choose their own units in campaigns? Also WHY no multiplayer?

@BurgerKing 1941 Dev,

This game could have been so much better if you had allowed more customization in the settings. I see you made a second game based on the American/Japanese War in the Pacific. Is it pretty much like this one? Basic ui & hardly any customization allowed in the settings?
