OVERVIEW (A Walk Through The Universe)
Just bought this last night and dove right in, as ever since buying a VR system a couple of months ago I have wanted a “space exploration” simulator experience. I came across “Overview” by accident as I was looking for inexpensive VR games. I was a bit nervous about the purchase, given the mixed reviews, but it was on sale ($5) and so I figured the risk-to-reward ratio was acceptable.
Happily, I can report that I love “Overview.” Certainly there are some options I would love to see added, but for what this game is and has now, I think it is amazing. The flyover Saturn alone was worth the purchase, in my opinion.

I am reposting this from a review I wrote on Reddit last week: I saw the the title of Overview in the Steam Store and added it to my wish list a few weeks back. Most people may have heard about the overview effect that astronauts all share when they look down at the earth from so far away and it makes them realize how small we are in the grand scheme of things. So. when it was on sale recently I grabbed it and was excited to try it.
It’s basically a single sequence that lasts about 30 minutes with another explore our solar system feature as well (which is good but underwhelming if I’m honest). The sequence is the star of the show but it too starts s bit slow. At first I found myself a bit disappointed- sure the graphics were gorgeous but it just wasn’t thrilling to me-I wanted the earth to be bigger in my perspective. I was missing the point I suppose!

Golf On Mars
If you’re familiar with Desert Golfing - this is that, but better. Cheap, simple, relaxing fun, at least until you get stuck in a hole with no escape. Luckily, unlike Desert Golfing, you’re able to skip a hole after 25 strokes. You also have more smooth courses, the able to put backspin on the ball, and to easily reset the game. One thing I hope to see changed, perhaps, are the achievements for the game - currently only four, each for completing a certain amount of holes: one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand, and one billion. It could definitely use some “get 1 hole in one” “get 5 holes in one” etc achievements, but my main gripe is that one billion, while funny, is simply not possible during the course of normal play. Anyway, pretty minor stuff. Would heartily recommend this for a relaxing time putting a ball over the dunes of Mars.

It’s the sequel to the best golfing game of all time, with added mechanics such as spin/the camera moving, and options to make the game more playable. And it’s only $3 for basically infinite enjoyment. Buy this game now.
November edit: still fantastic

Walk On Mars
Walk On Mars is a free VR experience. It worked on my system, looked ok, played ?, sounded ok. You are plopped into a crater on Mars. The only movement is you moving in your play space. The background music is ok, but you cannot mute or change volume. They put a credit sign behind you over the wall of the crater, breaking immersion. No space suit hands and arms or body. The sky is Wrong in this map, Martian sky does not show stars and the galaxy. Maybe ok, as a zen garden experience.
Try it, but there is better experiences like this out there.

Walk On Mars is a free VR-only “walking sim” where you get to wear a VR headset and look at a pretty bad skybox and some martian looking landscape. Unlike other walking simulators, there’s nowhere to walk to, which kind of misses the point of them.
It’s nice that this is free, but there’s nothing to it, it’s not a game, so I can’t recommend it to gamers.
