Elasto Mania

Elasto Mania

Well, what can you say about a game you have played nearly every day for over 20 years? In my view no game gives the same feeling in terms of addictive, enjoyable and competitive gameplay, with its unique physics and also its wonderful community of gamers. For us who have been avid Elma players for decades, it’s almost surreal to finally see it getting its well-deserved Steam release (I have to give huge thanks to the new owners for being so collaborative with the “hardcore Elma scene” and doing their best to create a polished, modern Elma experience for Steam).

A classic viral game originally published as shareware in 2000. Fun and addictive because of the challenge of finishing the included levels. For beginners It’s so easy to mess up and die. For experienced players it’s an excellent speedrunning game, trying to master the hardest tricks and beat the impossible world records.

When you have finished a level and compare your time with the world records on moposite.com, they are just unbelievable, How can the levels be finished that fast? The replays It’s just fascinating, and the better you get the better will you appreciate them. Trying to copy their driving styles can be very hard and time consuming, but once you start mastering the more advanced driving techniques it really starts flowing and it’s a lot of fun. Maybe you are even able to do one of the “impossible” shortcuts, like jumping the pole straight across to the flower in level 10 The Steps?

ENGLISH:

A 1-hour (two if you take your time), magical visual novel. While reading it, I felt like I was in a fairy tale with sublime illustrations and a bewitching soundtrack. There are a few darker moments in the story, a total change of tone, but it’s done on purpose. I had a wonderful experience with Mhakna Gramura and Fairy Bell and I recommend it to all VN fans. Also, you don’t need to have read the Fault series to understand the plot.

A Summer’s End - Hong Kong 1986

A Summer’s End - Hong Kong 1986

Damn, I wish this game came out in my teenage horny phase. It’s okay though. It never really ended ;). Sam is soooooooo hot and Michelle is a timeless beauty. They are officially my favorite 2D waifus.

On a more serious note - this game touched me in so many ways, I’m not even sure where to start. I played this game with a group of people I met online after playing another visual novel with them, Missed Messages by Angela He. At some point, I saw this TikTok of someone basically fangirling over the character design and visuals. And it is stunning - almost to a fault. The artwork is so impressive and professionally done, I unconsciously conceived it as a Japanese produced visual novel. It’s not. And thank goodness it’s not because it’s so much better than I was prepared for.

LGBTQ Visual Novel Review: A Summer’s End - Hong Kong 1986

Excerpts from my review on Yurimother.com

Before diving into the meat of Oracle and Bone’s A Summer’s End, I want to talk about the women behind this game Tida Kietsungden, and Charissa So. So and Kietsungden have done nothing but impress me since the announcement of A Summer’s End. They have repeatedly demonstrated their immense effort and dedication to creating a beautiful and thoughtful experience. Through conversations with the studio and reading their blog entries, I gained a remarkable understanding of how this game is both a tribute to classic cinema and a love letter to the Yuri and LGBT community. Through careful research and thoughtful expression, the two women navigate and acknowledge complicated issues, including Asian LGBTQ history and Hong Kong’s delicate political situation with grace and maturity. I am in complete awe of both women and their work. However, regardless of my profound respect for these creators, I still endeavor to offer my unfiltered thoughts on the visual novel, giving praise and criticism where appropriate.

Great and useful game! The description says “start playing and get smart” and I can assure you that it works! This game trains your brain and makes you faster with math.

I’m not sure if it’s an easter egg or an undocumented feature, but

! typing 0 will show your score and quit.

The framerate is very stable. It runs flawlessly with a GTX 1070, and in fact, it also runs flawlessly without it.

I really appreciate the “pay once, enjoy forever” spirit. No lootboxes or other type of micro-transactions, no annoying DRM nor third-party account. This is better than most AAA games these days.

Hidden in Plain Sight

A fantastic 5 dollar game that requires you to actually have friends (I know right?) at your computer. The variety is great, and it’s a great package. Pros: Super fun, cool graphics, great soundtrack

Cons: None, except one annoying thing: IF YOU ARE GOING TO PORT A GAME FROM XBOX YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE TO HAVE 2-4 XBOX REMOTES PLUGGED IN AT ALL TIMES! What the heck dude! Heads up, it’s a PC, not an XBox. Please add support for one person on keyboard/2 people on keyboard + XBox remote support. Even games like Gang Beasts let you play 2 people on the same keyboard. This is not more complex then Gang Beasts.

I’ve played this game on Ouya and then the PC version, and everytime it was increadibly easy to get people into playing it and it was a massive amount of fun as well.

Also, Steam version improves on earlier existing PC version. This has the same customization options as on other platforms now, which I feel is a must-have addition, since I sometimes feel the need to tweak the settings the way we want to play (for example, I occasionally feel that 3 sniper shots is way too much for Catch a Thief, or I want bots to run as well in Death Race). So even if you, like me, have the previously released PC version, I would definitely recommend picking it up.

Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two

Wayhaven Chronicles: Book Two

Heck yes! I can’t say how excited I was to return to Unit Bravo again–two months for the detective, two long years for the rest of us–but picked up like it was yesterday as I fell in love with them all over again. Mishka does a perfect job of taking the unique characters she introduced us to in book 1 and allowing them each to move at their own pace (and the pace your MC chooses of course!) to set the real groundwork for the ongoing romance. From sweet, earnest dating with F and N, to A’s antagonizing holding back, to of course the no-brakes steamy scenes in M’s route, each one is absolutely worth exploring in multiple ways. I have 6 MCs and counting because I just want to read every single slight variation of dialogue! The care and love Mishka puts into this story, all requiring complicated coding, just shows how much she believes in the project, and everyone benefits from her efforts. Unfortunately there is still no save feature, but apparently that is due to Choice of Games policy–from book 3 onwards, the feature should be available.

Another wonderful edition to the WHC.

The supernatural universe gets unfurled further, as does your familiarity with Team Bravo. Learning more about them, plus well-paced relationship-building. Wonderfully, the personalities are very distinct, and there are opportunities to win over the friendship of those of the team whom did not already have a great impression of you.

You also have a fair bit of control of how the endings with the other faction you come into contact with bear out. And a nice feature, which I haven’t seen used in too many other CoG novels, is a perspective-shift i.e. showing scenes your character is not present for. Gives a nice richness to how other people in the world react when not in your presence.

Scalak

Scalak

An excellent puzzle game, about fitting things onto other things. You have an object on screen, made of cubes, and some shapes to fit onto the various faces. How you know what goes where depends. First off, it has to physically fit, of course, which becomes harder as the object on screen gets more complex, as does the shape to fit. You can rotate the object in three dimensions. This too becomes harder, as you start to get several objects together (which are rotated individually), and the shape might wrap across several faces or, indeed, several objects. Also, shapes themselves must be right, for instance a geometric shape must fit into the appropriate outline, or when they have coloured lights on the edges you must match them with the coloured lights already placed.

Scalak is an interesting puzzle game. It is a real brainteaser. The game requires a lot of logical thinking.

There are 90 levels, which is a good amount for this price.

In this puzzle game you have to fit in different kind of puzzle parts in the various figures.

Most figures can be rotated. Which you will have to do a lot, before a piece can be put in a figure.

Pizza Game

this is an amazing game, i hate it and will play all of it

pros:

many typo with not good grammar

will kil your brain if you read it and then rewire it

“It’s basically like a standup routine but several hours long, only instead of the joke part there is have mispellings instead, those are like jokes” -the game itself

“its called pizza game, i should lower my expectations” -my friend who i stream this game to

“this is the best and worst game i have ever played” -that same friend moments later

Pizza Game made me laugh when nothing else could.

School was hard. The pandemic was harder. Not everyone I knew made it out…

Pizza Game was my comfort food. It reminded me of why I love storytelling. Because all stories have flaws, no matter how hard an author tries to make their creation perfect.

You can either spend a day completely paralyzed by the possibility of making a single mistake, or you can throw caution to the wind and create whatever crazy idea you have. That latter approach, in case you are wondering, is how all great stories are first formed.

SHENZHEN SOLITAIRE

SHENZHEN SOLITAIRE

Love the Game. It makes you think methodically and plan ahead before you make a move, to see what’s exposed that could be used in the following moves. When you think you’re stumped and then work out the solution, you’ve just gotta give yourself a pat on the back. I’ve never really been a solitaire player in earnest, but beware, this game is addictve!. Won 12,250 and counting.

Real player with 1057.9 hrs in game

I haven’t played Shenzhen I/O yet but I simply love this Freecell variation.

It’s slightly tougher (IMO) than Freecell but the games are a lot shorter. It’s easy to shotgun several at a time to kill a few minutes. It doesn’t take long for a few games to turn into a few dozen, either. Great zone-out tool.

My only wish is that there were a few more stats available (total games, win rate, average time, etc.) other than just games won. Maybe these can be added in a future update. Regardless, I’ll keep playing. Put it on Android too!

Sandwich Sudoku

Sandwich Sudoku

Great hand-made puzzles, very competent interface. Cannot stress enough the importance of these being hand-crafted rather than randomly generated.

Everything has been satisfying to solve thus far, this comes highly recommended. The Sandwich rules have some similarities with Killer Sudoku, but the more linear constraints make them less crunchy, allowing for a relaxed method of solving, at least for me.

I also recommend checking out their YouTube channel, “Cracking the Cryptic”, which is what led me here in the first place. The hosts are very pleasant to listen to and bring interesting puzzles to the table with links to give them a go yourself.

Real player with 245.2 hrs in game

+++ Well, this is probably the best app for specifically Sandwich Sudokus. It has a fair number of options for input, graphics etc. There’s around 100 puzzles as of writing this and for a relative novice like myself, it’s taking well over 40 hours to solve them all. Also the Cracking the Cryptic channel on YouTube has free puzzle solutions of very many types of sudokus and other puzzles, so this would be a way of supporting them.

–- I’m not convinced it’s very well optimized seeing as it sometimes has taken a substantial amount of CPU for no apparent reason. The star ratings for each puzzle are sort of hit or miss sometimes but you can generally skip puzzles if you’re solving most of them. I can’t tell if there aren’t better input configurations than the ones that are available. Maybe?
