DARK MAGIC

DARK MAGIC

This is a great platformer game, honestly you should get this game for it’s price. Great lore, well thought out platforming, fun combat with interesting enemies, for the most part great sound design, all around great game.

The only issue i have with the game is the sound that plays when you attack is a little harsh, i think it should be a quieter, more subtle sound that doesn’t drown out all other sounds and the music. 8/10 game.

The Land of Crows

The Land of Crows

One of the best portrayals of Cthulhu Mythos and Poe out there. Definitely a perfect lovecraftian game in my opinion. The game offers an amazing atmosphere of a desperate land full of polish culture. In fact, one can learn so much from playing this game. Inspirations are very promising and the game provides everything it claims. A really well-written and grim interactive book to read, so to speak.

The somber tale of a very romantic and “curious” polish nobleman filled with a lot of suffering and sorrow for melancholy fans. The most underrated game, I would say.

An interesting adventure game that’s filled with Polish history, strange entities and ghosts, but there are a few areas that could be improved upon.

Intro

The Land of Crows is an indie side-scrolling horror adventure game that’s heavily inspired by gothic writer’s of old, such as Edgar Allen Poe and Goete. It was also inspired by classic thriller adventure games of the 90’s, which is why it utilizes an old school art style. When I first discovered the game it immediately reminded me think of games like Downfall or The Cat Lady due to its art style but this is a very different entity in its own right. Do read on to see what I thought of the game.

Beautiful Sadness

Lonely. This is the first word that greets you when you start Pale Cachexia. Alone in the dark wood. The contrast between forest’s spring awakening and “ghostly gloom” of the night, with “rustling sounds of crickets”, nocturnal creatures and “ominous howls”, the feeling that someone is breathing right behind you while you venture among the endless unmoving trees - all set the mood of the VN right from the start and mark it as decidedly Gothic and Romanticist. With a sense of crippling loneliness and smallness the main character Esther stumbles through this vast, misty forest in search of a cure for her terminal illness, and finds herself in a gloomy Gothic manor, almost like she just stepped into a dream.

Short Review:

  • Kinetic visual novel (no choices)

  • Complexity in story and characters

  • Heavy topics of death, illness, grief, guilt, and loneliness

  • Somewhat open ending

  • Nice art, including unlockables

  • Soundtrack that perfectly enhances mood

  • Overall an atmospheric, emotional story I enjoyed!

Full Review:

What an atmospheric, emotionally complex story. This kinetic novel (visual novel without any choices) has elements of horror and fantasy, and there are some creepy parts, but it’s mostly mysterious and melancholic, dealing with the heavy topics of death/dying, illness, grief, guilt, and loneliness.

Darker : Episode I

Darker : Episode I

This is just like those indie games that you think are gonna be shit, because of the low budget, but isn’t. The soundtrack is just gold and everything in this game scream talent, but not money. I was constantly on my heels playing this, it’s so scary! They handle tension brilliantly.

This could turn out to be an amazing series of Darker games, if it is supported by the community. And this is not a full game! This is just a little teaser and test if we want more of Brothar, wich i would LOVE!

Thanks.

Very short game, with nothing really to do. Have to figure out the controls yourself, as there was no way to figure out key binds. There is not a hell of a lot to do in the game, and no real story. The atmosphere and music were awesome, and this could be expanded into an awesome game, but at the moment, its would be better if it were a free demo.

Update 04-06-2018

The addition of the ability to use your mouse to control the game was a massive Improvement in my opinion. KB just never quite felt fluid enough… That said, some players might find the challenge greatly reduced.. It did make the game much easier, if you seek challenge stick to the keyboard.

I hope the developer makes some money and sells additional levels as DLC, I will happily support this game.

Part of me feels like I should be ashamed of myself, but this game is too much fun for me to care.

A game that is only playable by being broken.

Let’s not beat around the bush. This game is broken. It’s stilted, slow, poor on the response, and just… full of issues.

By default, your paddle is controlled by your keyboard. Cool. Except when you do this, it moves too slow to be useful. However, you can switch it to Mouse controls(which inexplicably doesn’t take control in the menus either, still requiring keyboard input), which allows you to quickly go from one side of the screen to the other. Which should make the game easier, right? Nope. The game doesn’t capture the cursor, so it’s free to leave the game window, which of course stops controlling the paddle. Oh, and yes, when you click outside of the game, it does not pause, so by the time you get back to the game, even a second or two, you’ve lost a life. Couple this with the fact that the bouncing is sometimes completely random, both in direction and speed increase, and that sometimes the game will just not register a block being destroyed when its hit on its corner(I get the feeling there’s about a pixel of failure-to-overlap in the fields there), and the game just feels like a beta that isn’t getting the support or attention it really needs to improve.

How does this game have good ratings ? I love the horror genre, but they completely dropped the ball on this one . By the end of it I thought to myself , that’s it ? Thankfully it was only 1.99. The graphics on the other hand are top notch and if they would have taken a different route this could have been a fantastic game . Going into it it , I was hoping it was going to be like Granny or Evil Nun , 2 of of my fav hide and seek horror games, but the potential was wasted on a mediocre plot that’s not unique and just wasn’t fun to play . It’s a walking sim , which I actually like if there’s more exploration involved, but most of the time the only thing you’re doing is picking up books laid out through the house and picking up tarot cards … yep that’s the whole game . Terrible

Real player with 6.0 hrs in game

Not bad, and not very good either.

This is a short, cheap walking simulator in a house in rural America that has a small Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe to it.

You go about your life while your wife is stuck in the bathroom and “intruders” slowly disorient your household, with excellent visuals and decent sound. The main problem is that this game is very short and has only one or two solid jump scares and then it ends! Not much else to it… examining drawers and classic books is really the only side part to this game.

For now I’m not recommending it until I see the full release the game is extremely short. This prologue is not worth 1.99$ or 1.69 which is what I got it for on sale. There’s no benefit to doing combos no sense of accomplishment when you get a huge line up or a multi combo since it all does about the same damage exactly. The fights are tedious cause you’re basically just matching them as fast as possible without combos. The line up is RNG so you’re not really improving you just take advantage of what it drops you. The enemies have no powers nothing the fights just get longer. You can get puzzle and dragons for free and it has so much more to it on your mobile device. I like the concept but there’s not barely ANY story at all which could set this game apart. Hopefully the creators will improve this I’m not sure if the full release will cost money on top of paying for this version BUT I WOULD NOT BUY THIS ONE until changes are made. I probably forgot somethings but I’m sure I mentioned them in my video.

Dracula: Love Kills

Dracula: Love Kills

Very good game.

[As usual, note that my times are always long since I frequently leave games running when other things come up.]

The HO scenes are always appropriate to the location with a good mix of easier and harder to find objects.

Count Dracula and Igor are entertaining, but never so far over the top as to be annoying.

The main story is the usual series of finding things to get you to the next room (or part of the game) etc., but it’s nicely put together and kept me interested.

The puzzles were plentiful and frequently challenging. There was a good assortment of different types of puzzles.

For those who played Dracula: Origin - this game is quite different, more of the cookie-cutter HO/puzzle/adventure kind, albeit with special abilities and two different endings based on your decisions, which makes it distinctive in this genre. It also has 2D painted art instead of the previous episode’s 3D.

Pros:

  • Beautiful graphics, especially some HO scenes and the character art

  • The UI is very modern

  • Atmospheric and catchy music

  • The puzzles of the first half of the game are quite easy
