Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs

Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs

In my opinion, this is one of the best VR games I have ever played. It takes the classic formula of throwing birds at pigs, scales it up into a 3D environment and nails everything it has to.

I have played practically all of the Angry Birds games from when they initially came out, nearly an entire decade ago, and so when I saw this, I immediately had to give it a go. I was sceptical, since the original games were 2D and adding an additional dimension would, naturally, cause problems. However, this is actually one of the best parts of the game. The level design accommodates the additional 3D element by allowing most levels to have the option of taking your shots at different, predetermined locations/angles. I find this feature really well done because it continues the element of puzzles in the mobile games where it is about finding the right wood plank to destroy and analysing the structures from different viewpoints, looking for the weak-points is both engaging and satisfying when you get it right.

Disney Winnie the Pooh

Disney Winnie the Pooh

Disney’s Winnie the Pooh and the Horny Three Animated Storybooks

(They changed the name of the game)

is your average first person shooting game.

In the game you play as Winnie the Poo, your job is to collect as many horny pots as possible in a short amount of time without failing the stages. There’s 19 levels, all with unique environments. You got the forest, the city, the jungle, the snowy mountain, the volcano, the beach, the ravaging tornado, the firey pits and of course the torture champer room level. All levels have their own music track and it’s absolutely beautiful. You got your standard heavy metal and dubstep music playing in the background while you’re playing this Dance Dance Revolution type of game. Many would say that this racing game is a bit violent for the average person, but. I think you should give it a try.

It’s not often there comes a game that knows how to keep a player coming back for more. Disney Winnie the Pooh however, is one of those games that falls under this criteria. From the rich gameplay, to the charming characters, Disney Winnie the Pooh is an experience that demands to be felt by everyone capable of playing a video game.

To touch brief on the story, the game centers around detective Winnie the Pooh, a former member of the narcotics division of the Hundred Acre Wood Police force, and how he has to piece together why his troubled ex-wife, Christopher Robin, has returned to see him after 25 years of silence. The story goes much deeper beyond that, but for the sake of preventing spoilers, I won’t continue on more. As the game progresses, the player is introduced to a wide variety of characters. All booming with personality and each one just as memorable as the last. Pooh’s old friend from the force, Piglet, is easily one of my favorites in the game. Piglet, once a former member of the Hundred Acre Wood Police, is now trapped in the dump known as “the vice” where he spends his days dreaming about his glory years. While there, the player encounters two of Piglet’s colleagues, Tigger, and Eeyore. And yes, it’s that Eeyore. As seen in Disney Metal Gear Solid for the Sega Pico, Disney really had a way of promoting their game huh? Tigger and Eeyore are a dynamic duo that Pooh comes to grow chummy with, and they soon (along with Piglet) become some of his greatest friends. I’m only scraping the barrel with Disney Winnie the Pooh’s characters, but I assure you, the pay off for meeting and seeing them yourself is worth it.

Teddy Floppy Ear - Mountain Adventure

Teddy Floppy Ear - Mountain Adventure

My little daughter has absolutely loved this game and has played through it several times.

It seems to be recommended for children 5-8, but I suspect kids near the upper end of that age range will quickly play through this.

The artwork is lush, colourful and very accessible to children, and the voice acting is great, although a faint “European” accent is noticeable, which I felt only added to the game, the effect being approximately equivalent to a “neutral” accent making it easy to understand.

Teddy, Teddy, Teddy..

If this game was named Teddy Fappy Ear, it would be much more interesting!

The Story:

You’re a Teddy bear and you arrive to mountain village. First of all, you realize that your uncle is a DOG! Instead of that a poor homeless bear, who has to beg the bees for a bit of honey in the canine’s garden! What has your grandma been doing in her marriage, that’s an unsolved mystery! The story is poor, tbh.

Spoiler:

! Once you find the uncle dog at the railway station, he tells you to join him in his cabin and leaves you alone. I call this totally irresponsible. But, what could I expect from a dog, right? I just wanted to be sure, the place is safe, also I talked to the train dispatcher, but he didn’t even knew the train schedule.. Just great..

ABC Coloring Town

ABC Coloring Town

What is ABC Coloring Town?

Although EnsenaSoft’s ABC Coloring Town is a fun little educational tool for young gamers to have the alphabet reinforced to them.

As the game winds its way through its little town you will stop at 26 different houses. Each house represents a single letter in the alphabet. The player clicks on the door and it opens up to represent a picture beginning with the representative letter. Consequently, you’ll expect to see that E is for elephant, C is for cat and Z is for zebra. You have a choice of sixteen different colors that you can choose from to color and each picture has a number of different panels for you to color. Once you complete the alphabet it cycles through with different words until you’ve completed the alphabet three times.

My kid relatively liked this crap, but I’m gonna override his opinion because as a parent it’s a very tedious game to go through…

You don’t get to choose what picture you want to play with. Just skip to the next letter… Can’t go back to any earlier one… Can’t save the resulting picture (except by taking a screenshot with another program), can’t “undo” the last step (you can only undo everything!), the color palette is limited (some colors will never be used by a child, others would require more variations), and when there’s a ground and the sky, you can’t color them both with a palette fill, because the separation line between ground and sky usually doesn’t extend from the far left to the far right. You’d think, that’s okay I’ll just ‘draw’ a black line to complete the gap, but… Nope, the fill tool only takes existing black lines into account, ignoring your ‘fixes’.

Bunny’s Maze

Bunny’s Maze

An interesting game, with simple gameplay that sometimes complicates, but requires little effort to find a solution.

With 3 different environments and each one with mechanics, this ends up breaking the monotony.

Low price with a few hours of fun, I like that!

The levels are poorly designed. The game is based around switches that alternate blocks. And the problem is that a lot of switch press sequences are forced. That is, you either have acces to only one next switch, or the other switches are very obviously pointless at current step. So most of the levels you spend more time holding down arrow keys than thinking.

Some of the levels (especially in ice world) are broken - you can ignore some of the switches and parts of the level.

There is no restart button too. But you’ll rarely need it.

KnockDown

KnockDown

KnockDown

KnockDown is fun for young and old. In the 2D version of the classic tin can alley game

it’s about hitting cans with a ball and clearing them. You have to remove different obstacles

or solve small puzzles in order to get to the cans. Good timing and skill are always helpful.

Sometimes, however, it only helps to knock the cans down with enough force.

In the 8 scenarios with a total of 160 levels the little tennis ball “Benny” has to master

various environmental influences such as weightlessness or currents on the seabed,

to clear away all the cans. Insidious dangers can lurk here and there.

The difficulty varies from scenario to scenario and caters to both beginners and savvy

Gamers. There are also 22 motivational achievements. Those who have already

mastered KnockDown can also prove their skills in 16 leaderboards.

KnockDown is a “real” indie game. No 30-person development team, no million-dollar budget,

no publisher, nothing. Only one developer and approx. € 3000 for software licenses and store fees.

But now have fun!

This is a collection of 6 mini-games that is targeted for small children. The mini-games are bright, colorful, & very simple. Kids may enjoy this, but I doubt any adult would. There’s also a central hub area where you can select the mini-games and also point & click on certain objects to see them react.

Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting a steady 90 frames per second. I did not experience any serious issues or bugs. Unfortunately, there were no settings available. There is also no locomotion (other than swing-arm locomotion in one of the mini-games. All the action happens 180 degrees in front of you.
