Kidnapped! A Royal Birthday

Kidnapped! A Royal Birthday

Delightfully written.

You will need to play through more than once to grok the mechanics, once you do shaping the story to your aims becomes much easier, especially once you see the author’s style of cause and effect.

I laugh every time I play.

I cried at the death of a monster. Sobbed honestly.

Artistically brilliant.

This is such a fun and entertaining game! The characters are lovable and author’s writing is easy to understand and to follow. In my opinion, it’s a very silly game with many jokes and ‘happy accidents’, not everyone might like that, but I found myself giggling continuously while playing. I definitely recommend this game, one of the best interactive novels I’ve read so far :)

My Experience

After my first in-game day of choosing whose memory to wipe, I was annoyed. I didn’t feel like the flow of the game made intuitive sense. Initially, you’re choosing which three of the citizens to move forward to the next stage of the process. Then, at the next citizen line-up (after questioning each citizen you’ve sent forward), you’re choosing which two of the citizens to dismiss. I feel like it would make more sense here if you chose a citizen to move forward - in the same fashion you did at the first line-up.

The Entire Game in a Nutshell

  • Wait 5 seconds for the people to line up.

  • Read a 3-5 sentence reason for them being there.

  • Pick three to ask 3 questions.

  • Wait 5 seconds per character to walk off screen.

  • Wait five seconds per character to walk to the point you ask questions.

  • Ask three questions, or tell them to get lost.

  • Decide which one you want to wipe reading over the same information as when you first selected them.

  • Wait 5 seconds per character to walk off screen.

  • Wait 10 seconds for the person you picked to be wiped off screen.

The Ghost of Joe Papp: 101 Ways To Kill Writer’s Block

The Ghost of Joe Papp: 101 Ways To Kill Writer’s Block

You’ve returned to your hometown after trying to strike it big as a writer out in the mean old world. You’ll find that your old theater festival, the John Q. Public Festival, has fallen upon hard times (but honestly, when has it not?). It’s not easy being Lake Tahoe’s second-best Shakespeare festival. It falls to you to write a new future for the festival, as well as either mend or break your relations with the people that you left behind.

Or at least that’s the story you’re trying to tell. You ARE a writer, but the “hometown” is a play you wrote long ago and the “mean old world”…. well, no, that’s the mean old world. That’s not a stand-in for anything.

As Joe Papp’s author, you find yourself with the ability to change the story that you are in, making choices between multiple characters that ultimately dictate how the story progresses. Will you save the theater festival, or will you cause the zombie apocalypse?

  • Write new paths to go down with (almost) every new scene

  • Your choices have effects on how every character views you

  • Make decisions that will affect your play’s rating with the critics

The Last Act

The Last Act

The Last Act is the third game created and published on Steam by Snowhaven Studios. It’s a short story ( 2 hours) about a young woman named Sarah, as she pursues her dream of becoming an actress for theatre plays. Sarah has wanted to be a thespian since she was a young girl and saw her first play.

Plot: The story starts out with Sarah receiving her first audition. She believed she would be trying out for a support role, a good starting position for her career, but is surprised when the script she’s given is actually for the leading lady. Naturally, she’s overjoyed when she’s offered the role. Upon hearing the inspiration behind the story she will be acting out, things take a surprising turn. This happens in the form of a ghostly stranger and a warning of danger. Sarah must decide if the potential risks are worth the reward. You may take an active role in the investigation or simply allow the professional to do his job. Sarah can (sometimes unwittingly) gather clues and decide whether it’s important enough to pass on or not. Even the smallest, insignificant bit of information can make or break the case. But is it a wise thing to do?

Overview

Attending an audition for a supporting part in a play which would give our heroine Sarah her stage debut; she is shocked to be asked to read for the lead role, and even more so to be offered it after doing so. She thinks this is everything she has ever dreamed of, but will quickly discover that this particular play has more to reveal than its script; being based upon a ghost story from 300 years earlier – and the ghost in question still being present within the theatre where the play is being rehearsed.

Throw Me in the River

Throw Me in the River

Throw Me in the River is a pretty simple game in terms of access and presentation. But it tells a great story with lots of branching paths which should keep you interested for well longer than the price of admission might suggest. On top of that, there’s a lot of fantastic art and a chill soundtrack for you to enjoy as you play.

You’re mostly just picking dialogue options and watching the story unfold, but if you’re into reading a cool story and just vibing, you’ll probably want to check this out.

I don’t play a lot of games like this, but Throw Me in the River reminded me why that is really a mistake. This game was a beautiful way to spend an hour of my time and I’m glad I picked it up. The interplay of Reis' writing, Troy’s music, and Nic’s artwork is masterful. You can tell every member of the team truly cared about the project. Great job and I will definitely be watching for any work you guys do in the future.

<em>NEW</em> SCUFFED EPIC VISUAL NOVEL

NEW SCUFFED EPIC VISUAL NOVEL

This game saved my life.

I am 69.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiralling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand… my working hand… my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.

As someone who recently got addicted to visual novels, all I can say is… This is one hell of a fever dream.

The music was better than the game.

Bunker Down

Bunker Down

Its simple and fun. I think I have found 4 separate endings already, but there seem to be more… Finding the true good ending is HARD. I’m still trying, but i’m enjoying the characters ^^

It’s a pretty good game for what little there is. You must find the right combination on how to survive. I’m a fan of post apocalyptic games and this fits the criteria. Funny characters and hard to decide who lives and dies.

I had great fun with this game. voice acting was amazing. I felt bad for all the men who had to voice the pedophile teachers. It was dark with out feeling like someone was punching/looking down on others. Its a tight rope to walk but it does so wonderfully, some errors here and there but other wise I enjoyed my 8 hours. I know the dramatic edginess of it would put some people off which I understand. Some shit not for everyone, but this game does not take itself serious in the least. We have DDLC, Hunie Pop, various games taking different angels and pot shot at the VN/Dating sims genre. Sometimes you need shit that just different.

I thought this was going to be light like a bag filled with 628 pissing calvin stickers but then got sauce with a Papa John’s Piledriver when i made the wrong choice for the character.

SBN3 has been doing voice acting, writing, and other nerd magazine stuff on youtube for quite a bit. From batman beyond ill, to taste closed, to even the feature length movie dubbed over called Operation Backpackers and another one called Taste Closed Heaven aint hard to find. As soon as i heard this project dropped on steam i had to buy it.

Dead-End Detective: The Sixpence Strangler

Dead-End Detective: The Sixpence Strangler

Set in the 1950s, and with jokes and double entendres that have all the subtlety of many of the comedy shows of that time, this is a reasonable reproduction of a typical police yarn of that period. This is more a visual novel with choices than an actual game, though you do get to create the character of the protagonist. You play as a police Inspector out to catch a serial killer and during your enquiries you meet the staple characters from that period: the complaining neighbour, the vampish bar girl, the ribald sailors and a pair of constables, one of whom is an eager and ambitious young man, and the other a typical cynical policeman who has seen it all, as well as a jealous colleague who resents your success. Its set in a cold, wet and wintry London.
