Ms.Director

Ms.Director

Ms. Director is a game I can’t give justice to in just words. Either by my terrible writing skills or by repeating what others have said. Yet I can say that Ms. Director is one of the best RPGmaker-style games I have played in a very long time. It succeeds with the good ol’ cliche 2D horror game formula, but feels like a refreshing new experience in the RPGmaker-style genre. Either by well-written characters, fantastic links to LGBTQ+ Hollywood history, or fantastic music.

My final words about this game being a wonderful and beautiful small indie game that has been clearly made with passion and creativity. True love, research and time went into making this and it shines with it. It’s got the typical growing pains and teething problems of being a first major RPGmaker project, but those will eventually go away when the developer learns more and grows from mistakes. Ms. Director is a game I can’t recommend enough. Just writing this review isn’t even doing it justice.

I found this game through a friend on twitter, and saw that it was an indie horror title. I went and played it, not knowing what to expect, and fell in love with the characters, art style, puns, and presentation. It’s a really solid title, with a lot of thought put into it. It is a bit short, and there are a few text errors, but it’s pretty easy to miss when you are focused on all the weird stuff happening in the mansion. I’m looking forward to seeing what sketchy nonsense puts out next.

For a game based in black and white it does try your patience when you are sleepy. I do find that i am stepping away just to retrace my steps. Simple characters that don’t change as the game advances nor have new ones added. This really makes you think and think again. Better scores when I first wake then late at nite.

Tango: The Adventure Game

Tango: The Adventure Game

I happened to be looking for a new point & click/adventure game and happened to come across this little gem. It is a little charming Indie game that utilizes real locations in Buenos Aires and combines with both satirical and factual interactions with one of Argentina’s most prominent Tango musician. Your adventure begins in a prison, playing a fictional version of Carlos Gardel. The scenes that follow all seem to be based around lyrics from his many songs, somewhat, and one can base this on the fact that one of his songs is actually titled “Prisionero” (Prisoner).

There wasn’t a whole lot of fanfare with this game’s release; I’m a fan of the genre and I have been following point-and-click game development for a while, and it still sort of flew right by. Luckily, thanks to a lovely word-of-mouth campaign, I still picked this one up just after release.

Loosely based on the life of musician Carlos Gardel, Tango opens with a prison escape sequence (one of my all-time favorite point-and-click tropes) before transitioning to an extended flashback to explain how you got there. The total playtime is about 2-3 hours, and the tone of the game definitely leans more towards comedy than drama.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel like this game is getting no attention. Its been okay to play so far. I have only had to two glitches where I had to click multiple times on an object for it to work. Other than that I would give the game a try. The price isn’t bad either.

This is simply a nice and cheap game. It’s quite enjoyable and it has some kinda difficult puzzles that don’t always make sense. The game is small, but with a decent story. It has a few bugs here and there, but nothing too important. It doesn’t get much attention, so buy it and see for yourself how much fun it is. Till next time, don’t forget to point & click!

Sinking Inn

A short yet fun little eerie adventure! The world flipping mechanic played well with the puzzles and added to the atmosphere. The puzzles weren’t too hard and were easy to follow throughout the game. I loved the atmosphere, the story, and the universe this game was set in that I spent most of my time not finishing puzzles wondering if there was more about the world –It was simple yet intriguing!

So you’ve read the description and now you’re down here in the comments trying to figure out what’s it all about. Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game.

Sinking Inn is a short yet charming dark puzzler that will have you questioning every movement you make. The graphics are gritty yet beautiful, the music is eerie yet inviting, and the mechanics are simple yet effective. I got stuck way too long on one puzzle only because I was failing to comprehend what the game was telling me and tried to brute force it.

When I saw this game appear on Steam, a long forgotten memory came back to me! This is actually my very fist video game! I remember when my parents bought me my first PC, this “new game” was delivered with the PC. I didn’t like it because it was too difficult (for a 9 year old). The cutscenes are excellent, beautiful cartoony style, but the gameplay itself is a very bland railshooter … which is fine, I guess … but if you don’t care to play this game (which is a challenge if approached without nostalgia glasses), then just watch the cutscenes on YouTube. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2536351711

Brain Marmelade

Brain Marmelade

Unique platformer game with a beautiful art style (which drew me to this game in the first place). Controls might need to be changed upon startup (like Q was automatically left instead of A, for me at least). Controls are then easy to follow and once you get an idea of combos against enemies, then they become very manageable.

Also this game took me a lot longer than I think it would for most people just because I am not well-versed in platformers or games period, so don’t be discouraged by how long I spent on it xD
