TraptionBakery
I was after an indie game for grownups which would challenge me but also be addictive and quirky. A pretty tough wish list, and I spent a long time looking before I found this game. It’s fiendish and quirky and humorous and very, very clever… Not sure if I’ll ever beat it, but… No, I WILL beat it - I’m not going to give up :) And it’s too addictive to stop playing, anyway.

TraptionBakery is an odd title – not sure if there’s anything like it on Steam. Reminds me of some simple, oldschool games where half the challenge was figuring out what the dev had in mind. The tagline on the game’s website is: “intended to amuse, relax, baffle and interest you for many days or weeks.” I’d say: it is amusing, it probably won’t be super relaxing, it is baffling, it is moderately interesting, and it may or may not last you many days. Still, it might be worth playing: read on.

This game has so much possibility. It’s so much fun, with the free roam option, it makes the game even better. Personally, ive completed act 1 and 2, and when act 3 comes out… this game will be awesome!
Pros:
- Free roaming: Just the ability to free roam is just amazing. Other time travel games don’t (usually) have free roaming, which this game does.
*The Growth of Mankind: from 1750-present, the evolution of mankind is unbelievable.. you can go see how the town was, is, and will be!
*Seeing yourself: If you go to a date you’ve already been to, you can see the exact steps you’ve taken in that year. Just do NOT get too close!

This game is really going to go far. It is a very interesting concept for a game! I love how the map changes when you time travel. You feel like you’re really time traveling! You can even see your past self reenact all of your actions! I accidentally left a Fusion Cell in 2014 and I saw myself leave them on the ground and I flew away to 1885! Very very addicting game. Especially with the hover conversion. It makes it a lot easier to time travel. I rate this 11/10. I wonder if someone will make a mod where it turns the DeLorean into the one from Back to the Future. And turn the Sir. Atom into a Mr. Fusion! If you’re a really intense Back to the Future fan like I am, this game is definitely the game for you.

You VS Drugs
YOU TAKE ON THE ROLE OF REAL-LIFE AGENTS WHO EXIST IN YOUR BRAIN, WHERE YOUR OWN WIT CAN RISE TO REVERT A WORLDWIDE DEVASTATION. THE ENEMY CAN ENSLAVE ANYONE, ANYWHERE. BY EMBARKING ON AN ADVENTURE THAT WILL DEFY YOUR IMAGINATION, YOU WILL DISCOVER HOW DRUG ADDICTION THREATENS HUMANITY. BY WATCHING REAL NEUROLOGICAL EVENTS, YOU WILL BE EMPOWERED TO BETTER PROTECT YOURSELF, AND THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE —IF YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!
Inspiration & theme: “In 1960, only 4 million Americans had ever tried drugs” (2.2% of people). “By creating the Bureau of Narcotics & Dangerous Drugs in 1968, the U.S. set the basis of an official national/international war on drugs” (Drug Enforcement Administration Museum).
50 years later, the National Survey on Drug Use & Health (2019) showed that 164.8 million Americans aged 12 or older (60.1% of people) were past month substance users. Even worse, “children are already abusing drugs at age 12 or 13 (…), including tobacco, alcohol, inhalants, marijuana, prescription drugs such as sleeping pills & anti-anxiety medicines” (National Institute on Drug Abuse -NIDA-, 2020). And now, the United Nations’ 2021 World Drug Report states that “pandemic effects ramp up drug risk, as youth underestimate cannabis dangers”. So, what now? NIDA (2020) states that “Increased understanding of the basics of addiction will empower people to make informed choices in their own lives”. But if science took +100 years to unravel how drugs change the brain and produce addiction, how can regular kids & adults learn such complex topics to foresee the hidden dangers of trying drugs?
‘You VS Drugs’ is the first brain-based video game saga in the world designed to prevent drug addiction by empowering people with real knowledge, so they can make better choices in their own lives!
Design & gameplay: It’s a chibi cartoon-style 3D graphic design of characters & settings which give players a sense of action and fun at first glance. Friends & foes, level challenges, sounds, structures & objects are designed for players —that can play alone/with a partner— to explore, have fun, get surprised, fight, and make decisions that test the knowledge players acquire while watching how their brain works, and how drugs mess up with people’s lives. All relevant situations are inspired in real events of the working brain.
Game mechanics (and link to the learning experience):
• Incorrect responses to Path questions lead to situations that diminish energy levels.
• Correct responses to Path questions earn players points. Enough points allow the discovery of a special feature in the camp’s hospital.
• Your choices sometimes affect other AI teammates’ energy levels.
• To complete the first half of a level you need to take care of your fellow(s).
• Once a level is completed, the subsequent level is unlocked.
• Before a new level starts, weapon improvements or new skills can be learned at the camp’s gym.
Tetra Cube
Tetra Cube is a solo project by DDal, an Illustrator, known for art from gacha game Girls' Frontline. With small budget and zero marketing, Tetra Cube gets instantly into a pile of Steam games with near zero discoverability on the release day, but let it not deceive you.
So what is Tetra Cube? Basically, if you played Into the Breach and Invisible Inc, the game will give you those feels, except on a much smaller scale since the game isn’t that complex. It’s fast paced, fun, small puzzle battles in 8x8 tiles or 8x4 tile rooms, and you control only 2 characters + 1 hacked robot of your choice. You dungeon crawl through floors, manage your resources, upgrades, equipment and try to win battles without taking any damage if possible. Full run from start till the end is around ~2-3 hours. Music is probably one of my favorite things in Tetra Cube. And surprisingly, plenty of different tracks for such a small project.

Even though the price is deceptively low, this game received a lot of effort. It takes several hours to play until the ending, without feeling repetitive or watered down.
The strategic part is easy to understand, and feels fair and fun to play. Different equipment requires different strategies, which makes it fun to fight for another ending. Unlike many rouge-somethings this game follows the plot and doesn’t revolve around randomness and near infinite replays, finding good balance between procedural crawling parts, and story progression.

Shattered Slime
I think the art style is cute and I like the concept of altering mass to platform, but the Light form felt waaaay to floaty and you would lose all momentum when coming into contact with any wall which made some platforming areas difficult. Also unsure what the little orbs you collect were for?
Music was also missing in Level 2 while present in other stages. Soft music for the Menu/Level select would have been a nice touch as well as proper transitions from the start/end of the level to the Menu. Just felt kind of abrupt on completion.

It’s good for a free game.
I wouldn’t recommend otherwise.
What I enjoy here are the peppy music score and the creative level design.
One issue is the controller being way too sensitive horizontally, with no option for adjustment.
A bigger issue, but an irregular one - it happens more in some levels than others - is the camera killing you. Sometimes it happens because of a sudden zoom in while you are navigating. More often, the game unfairly hides the deadly obstacles outside the screen, and uses sudden, large shifts instead of steadily centering on you.

SPORE™
nice game, even if I dont play it for a year or two whenever I come back I always get the same feel as if I were playing it as a 9yr old on my moms work laptop. The replayability of this will make you keep replaying it well into… well I don’t know how old but I know I’ll probably play this game when I’m middleaged with kids and even further on when my kids are middleaged with kids. This game is such a gem and I fucking hate EA for ruining maxis this game was perfect and it could’ve been even better if it weren’t for the GREEDY CORPORATE SCUM OF EA GIVING MAXIS IMPOSSIBLE DEADLINES! THEY HAD TO CUT OUT 2 ENTIRE STAGES OF THE GAME FUCK YOU EA CORPO-SCUM! anyway best game i’ve ever played 10/10 more creative than minecraft.
