Starshot: Space Circus Fever

Starshot: Space Circus Fever

This may be the best way to play Starshot: Space Circus Fever today.

It’s relatively sad, because, as it’s been said, it is a bad port.

This being said, all of the issues can be overcome, and you can have an enjoyable experience with a few precautions.

TECHNICAL ISSUES

…obviously we’ll have to live with these homemade “fixes”, I have no hope these devs will ever take a second look at the game.

First of all, the FRAMERATE. The game becomes completely unplayable at some points in the first level. You have to exit the game and restart, you get 1 frame per second or something. I solved this problem running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP - Service Pack 3. After I did this, my save file got deleted (?), but then I completed the game with ZERO FRAMERATE ISSUES, FROM BEGINNING TO END.

Personally I enjoyed the game for the nostalgia. One of the first games i ever played on computer. Starshot is a super old game, and therefore plays like it. Broken camera angles, messy controls and getting stuck on more than a fair share of objects. However I got lucky with it playing just fine on windows 10. I honestly thought I would encounter more bugs running it.

I loved this little game. Graphics are a bit of an eyesore but they fit the mood well, because it’s a meta, fourth wall breaking parody type of game. It’s good fun and made me laugh. Puzzles make some sense and the dev was even kind enough to help me when I got stuck - I thought I had tried something I didn’t. This game is better enjoyed by people familiar with Sierra and Lucasarts games and that can get all the pop references. It exploits the point and click tropes and the bad habits of adventure players brilliantly.

This game is a short little diversion that will be enjoyable to fans of the Point and Click genre. A fully voiced space comedy, you are trapped on a moon with the goal of getting off. In true adventure game fashion, a larger plot emerges.

The real joy of the game is the comedy writing. It is quite reference heavy, but enjoyable nonetheless. A full third of the references are to adventure games, classic adventure games, and AGS, the software used to build the game. Another full third of the references are sci-fi references. The final third of references are to Pink Floyd albums. If you don’t like these things, this game may not be for you.

Steel Dungeon 钢铁地牢

Steel Dungeon 钢铁地牢

The game, while poorly written, felt like it has potential to be fun. Likely this game should have come out in Early Access first, but otherwise I didn’t hate playing it briefly.

The chief idea is that you are driving around in a tank while taking out throngs of enemies. You go from room to room FTL style using a variety of weapons in a twin stick shooter style. It definitely needs some balancing and and likely more things should be explained, but there is room to work around and make this game special.

It’s not a bad game, especially for the low price but the UI graphics are a bit amateur and the English is really bad: “toturial” for tutorial for example. Also it’s not a “FPS” but an overhead third person view of the player (a tank). A HP display as a bar or something would be more useful than showing Hp as numbers.

Oddyssey: Your Space, Your Way

Oddyssey: Your Space, Your Way

The world was doomed, but that was just the beginning. Now four thawed-out crewmembers are the only hope for two million passengers seeking life on a new world. In an effort to save humanity from an earth-shattering asteroid, an ARK Mothership was built to transport two million frozen souls safely to a new, habitable world. At least, that was the plan. Midway through its long journey, the ARK Mothership computers discovered that it was far off course and low on fuel. With no other options, four passengers were awoken early.

Their job? To crew the “Oddyssey” resource vessel, mine asteroids for resources and help the ARK reach the next source of fuel. The process is slow, and more crew members may need to be awoken, but the fates of 1,999,996 fellow passengers hang in the balance.

It’s up to you and your crew to Build, Explore, and Manage your team to get enough resources for the next big jump to a habitable planetary system. The future of humanity literally depends on it!

Collect resources by mining nearby asteroids. Use the collected material to create new tools and technology or send back to the ARK as fuel.

A good crew works effectively. While one is building a new science station, another can be mining asteroids or improving the ship.

Crewmembers can gain temporary boosts and debuffs while working. Ignoring a negative status can impact your performance and eventually lead to grave consequences.

Discover lost alien technology and study it to improve your own.

**Use resources to repair and expand your ship and upgrade its technology. Defend it from alien creatures, solar flares and dangerous asteroids.

Every crew member is an important and unique part of your crew. Unless they die, then they are preplaced with one of the 1.9 million other potential crew members. Assign the new crew where they best fit, or use some gene editing to get the skills you need to survive.**

Panic Pump - Can you save them ALL?

Panic Pump - Can you save them ALL?

WARNING: This is a TIMED game!

And the time you’re given to complete the level is very short.

So if you don’t finish within the time limit, you automatically fail the level.

Honestly, I don’t like this game.

I didn’t care for the cutesy graphics or the children screaming.

Guess this is targeted for a younger audience.

The difficulty ramps way up after only a few levels.

I hope the children this is intended for are very fast.

The controls are also very annoying.

Try to slide a token out and you end up rotating the entire cage.

Raygun Chess

Raygun Chess

Raygun Chess is a Early Access free VR game that is very bare bones right now. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. There are only 6 boards at the time of this review and they are part of the tutorial. The tutorial worked. Nothing else you can play at this time. There is no multiplayer at this time. Sort of interesting take on battle chess.

Not sure how to play the big board with the 4 players. Looked like a tech demo at this time.

Maybe come back to this game sometime Next year.

There is a very good reason no-one has come up with a game to take over from chess and that is because chess is the perfect game! But that doesn’t stop ‘Raygun Chess’ from giving it a go. In short, it is chess, but with rayguns. So you have a handful of pieces that move in certain directions and amounts and if they get close enough to an opposing piece they will shoot it down. To be fair the models look good and so does the sparse, but oddly peaceful space setting! But when it comes to gameplay I just couldn’t get into it. The grabbing mechanic of the pieces hardly worked at all and when it did I found that there wasn’t a lot of strategy involved, in fact, you can win all the levels by simply moving your shooters over to the enemy as fast as you can. But hey! Someone might like this and it is at least free, so I will give it the thumbs up with a note that if I could have given it a neutral rating I would have. But it didn’t deserve the thumbs down because it is free after all.
