Fat Man Fights

Fat Man Fights

Overview - All Coming Soon

Fat Man Fights is an action-arcade game with a humorous and light-hearted tone that is centred around an innovative and entertaining pushing mechanic.

Compete in fast-paced, hilarious sumo wrestling games against quick-witted AI opponents for the chance to win more tasty and delicious food (like donuts! And cake! And pizza!)!

First one out of the ring loses!

Progress up the ranks of sumo wrestlers to become the ultimate sumo wrestler of the century!

In Fat Man Fights you will start off in your humble home where you are then able to select your sumo wrestling games from your TV.

In the sumo wrestling match, the core mechanic is pushing.

This is where you hold the mouse button to charge up a push:

Then when you release it, the player will push and the power of that push will correspond with how long the mouse button has been held down for.

This allows for a constant change in playstyles from offensive and defensive which keeps the gameplay always interesting and engaging.

Jumping is also a huge part of the game!

What Fat Man Fights does offer:

  • Fast-paced, fun and exciting sumo wrestling matches

  • A break from the darker and deeper games on Steam

  • An fun and unique push mechanic which is the core mechanic

  • A light-hearted and enjoyable experience

  • High replayability - easy to learn but hard to master

  • A bright and colourful art style

  • Belly flopping. Lots of it.

  • A competitive drive - leaderboards and stats

  • A well-balanced game that suits all types of players with different skill levels

  • Comedic vanity items for the player

  • A variety of maps that suit different playstyles

What Fat Man Fights doesn’t offer:

  • Incredibly well-drawn art

This game is the perfect arcade game. I haven’t gotten to a boss so I can’t comment about that. It’s also really easy to get onto the leader board. There’s not much to the game but I think that’s how most arcade games are. For it being made in a game jam its great! I didn’t even realize it was made for a game jam at first. It want more games like this! It doesn’t require to much thought so its easy to watch a movie and play it at the same time.

This is a simple and fun little game with a distinctive pixel art style, that’s best enjoyed with a few friends, especially if you’re all a little drunk. You’re given three clues as to what the target galactic super-criminal looks like, and a crowd of faces milling around. You need to identify the criminal and shoot them to get points and move to the next round. If you shoot an innocent bystander by mistake then it’s game over, and you start again from the first round.

It starts out simple, with the target criminal usually being easily spotted at a glance, but quickly starts to build up in difficulty as the faces in the crowd all start to share similar looking features that forces you to start to check and double-check and even triple-check before you pull the trigger. The ten second time limit for each round is accompanied by the ticking of the clock which only adds to the pressure. Taking turns playing it with friends and trying to talk them into shooting the wrong target so they don’t beat your score is almost the best part.

Grapple Hoops

Grapple Hoops

This game is pretty cool.

Grappling Hoops plays like a Spider-Man NBA Jam, where you swing around with a grappling hook and use a basketball to score hoops / dunks and take out enemies.

This gameplay feels very fun and energetic and really emphasizes speed and precision.

Unfortunately a good number of levels are rather boxed-in to really grapple around quickly, that’s doesn’t make them bad levels, but they don’t play to the main mechanic of the game making them a bit out of place.

That said, I believe there will be enough levels with variety to satisfy all the game-play styles that the game offers.

I love this game. There are a few bugs and problems, which is to be expected with a game that has released today. Andrew nailed the combat and mechanics down, all though some of the story mode levels don’t fit the game(Their very small and cluttered, allows them to be prettier but you get stuck on small little props) I think with levels more like the floor is lava, and the original demo ones the game will be perfect. Bosses are really cool, all though I expected that I would have to perfectly dodge the hammer, and then dunk on it, instead of throwing a basket ball at it which can hit it anywhere. The mech enemy I was able to cheese by constantly grapple kicking, and tossing the basket ball. The droid boss however was really fun. It allowed me to pick up great speeds, and it was super fun dodging the bullets. Going to graphics this game is beautiful. I love the cartoon/toon shader. It looks great. I will end my review here, and my rating is 8/10.

Magnetta

Magnetta

As of version 1.1 -

Overall I have had a very positive experience with Magnetta. The game play is solid, the mechanics are easy to learn and the level design is creative and interesting. In true NES-style the game requires some planning and memorization to get through each level. Each stage has taken me about 4-5 tries to truly learn the best way to navigate them. The enemies are also diverse enough to keep the challenge up. Even with these challenging aspects the game is forgiving enough and saves your progress as you complete stages. Each stage also has added replay value as you revisit them to collect circuits or challenge yourself in the glitch-mode. During my time with the game I have come across some very minor bugs and Heliocentric Studios has been incredibly kind and quick to resond. Most reported issues were patched within a few hours. Magnetta is highly recommended for any fan of jumpin’ and shootin'!

Polished and pristine.

Heliocentric Studios, you’ve brought back fond memories.

Huge, unique levels, solid difficulty, nice enemy variety, and unexpectedly forgiving (depending on your difficulty choice).

Terrific particle effects and transitional backgrounds.

It’s the little touches that make me smile; Magnetta’s blowing hair, her shimmer, idle interactions.

This game will make you think at times, not so much to puzzle, but how to optimize.

Power-ups and secrets a-plenty.

Glitch-Me-Not!

Magnetta, Mega Man…you two are one.
