KARDS - The WWII Card Game

KARDS - The WWII Card Game

“KARDS”

“The one on one ccg that a indie developer got right…and a billion dollar company didn’t.."

What can I say?… As a disgruntled player from the swampy pits of the now dead artifact community, I was left a stray. The absolute failure of Artifact had left a bad taste in my mouth and I was desperately looking for something to fill the gap. By chance I took notice of this simple but yet finely tuned card game name…“Kards”..haha! At first I thought it would be nothing new. Another ccg until something else popped up, but after playing my tutorial match..I knew right away that this game was far leagues better. First off the playing field was straight forward. You have an HQ with 20hp and each player takes turns to diminish the other players base, but there is a simple addition that takes the strategy of playing up a notch…the frontline.

-In Kards you are asked simulate WW2 battles using CCG mechanics, with Kards representing typical units (Infantry, Tanks, Arty, Fighters, Bombers) as well as a wide variety of military style “Orders” and “Countermeasures”,

-The Kards artwork and historical write-ups are high quality so a fun diversion for WW2 nerds to view and read even before you begin playing,

-You may play as any of the “Big 5” nations of the war: Germany, Japan, UK, USA USSR, as well as 2 smaller allied factions: Italy and France, EDIT: Poland added June 2021.

Legacy Bites

Play cards to save the population of humans and the rest of the animal kingdom!

Key Features:

Random Game with optional deck building

Campaign Mode containing 24 missions

Gameplay:

The world is divided into human and animal populations. Your goal is to keep each population within specific boundaries.

A game is played over various rounds. Each round a threat card is played by AI which changes the population of humans and animals in the world. The player receives 1-4 cards for that round to negate the effects of the threat card. Although the threat card only affects populations when the round ends, player cards may affect populations that round and up to the next two rounds. Plan and play cards carefully. After the last round ends all remaining population modifiers are played out. Keep an eye out for that! To make matters even more interesting, the boundaries for each population may change during the game! And there is a round timer! You’ll need quick hands and a quick mind to succeed!

Through the Ages

Through the Ages

Through the Ages : 2nd edition is a fantastic port of a physical board game to the digital space. A hit board game created by Vladimír Chvátil (Vlaada Chvátil) in 2006. The rules have changed slightly from the original version mainly with tactics cards being shared.

Gamelay-wise, a turn-based action point game. Each turn, you start with a political phase where you play an aggression card, event card or war card. Then, you have your action phase, where you get to use your civil actions (white) to build civil units, draw cards and place leaders. With military actions (red), you get to build military units and play tactic cards.

I’ve been holding off making a review for this game. Reason being, the developers had some server issues until recently. Something to do with the providers of the multiplatform system they used pulling out from supporting it. This happened at the same time they were upgrading compatibility from IPv5 from IPv6. With them being a small development team, this pulled all their resources to get stability back. For some months there was some frustrating server moments.

Now I won’t profess to understand exactly what was going on behind the scenes, BUT… they fixed it!! Through the Ages is now fully stable!!

It’s a fun little game. After initial bad experiences with Nuts!: The Battle of the Bulge (so buggy that it’s unplayable) and Battle of Tallarn (plain bad) this one is a pleasant suprise.

Pros:

  • should appeal to people that like boardgames, card games and 2WW (preferably all of the mentioned)

  • I haven’t encountered any bugs

  • it’s fun

  • you can play it during a long coffe break

  • it’s pretty and supports resolutions above 1080p

  • interface is allright

Cons:

  • price is a little steep for such a small game

What is this game about?

This Throne Is Mine - The Card Game is very simple game, where each turn you are presented with “problems” that require either a certain number of strength or diplomacy to solve. Your cards have strength or diplomacy + a special which is very simple, such as boosting one of the several type of resources. You can upgrade cards to strengthen their effects or buy general upgrades. Ultimately, this is foremost a resource management game with very light deckbuilding. If that sounds interesting to you and you don’t expect too much from the graphics, story or expect very deep mechanics, it’s a game that can be fun to play for a while to beat the challenges set by the developers.

Cards of Patience

Cards of Patience

Great game of Klondike/Patience (sort of) combined with simple random-generated Dungeon-Diving. You get thrown into a Solitaire type game in-progress against an enemy and have to discard from the Line into the Discard Pile all while managing items, potions and spells. Work your way through the dungeon to the boss. Don’t forget to keep upgrading your character after games, with the diamonds, because the bosses are not easy.

Only thing lacking is an in-game-progress Save feature though it does save your character development from game to game.

Solid rogue-lite card game.

You need some braincells to advance in this game - but this is what makes it worthwhile and replayable.

4/5.

I think this is a “You get what you pay for” sorta thing but….I’m still iffy on the price (I got it at discount/sale too). So…I’m tentatively going to give it a thumbs down (I’ll explain in point 2). The game is interesting if you’re really into grinding. If you’re not into grinding, this is a hard pass.

The game’s story…doesn’t exist. I was taken back at first that there was no tutorial, I was thrown into battle right away, and I was lost for about 20 seconds then realized…you don’t do anything. This is a semi-idle game that is bad at the idle part. The combat is fully automated, there is no control there. That said, most battles take 6-12 seconds, and you have to constantly re-enter or go to the next map/area. So you still have to manage it but without any kind of actual game play. You set a formation of up to 9 characters and you can equip them with stuff and little things to grind to make them more powerful, which I’m not gonna lie, is pretty fun in its own way.

The game is unpolished and way too short for the asking price. The English translation is perfect.

Card Blitz: WWII

I have to say first, there are a lot of bots in this game, and they ignore visibility system. And at the end of the match, they leave alone and pretend to be human. The developers were silent on this issue. I don’t lose to bots, but uncomfortable.

So what about against human?

It depends on how you can buff the self-propelled artillery, a unit that can attack unilaterally. Cause of too few cards and too few number of cards in deck, there is no other viable strategy.

It’s an extremely DUMB game and NOT worth playing.

Real player with 173.9 hrs in game

It is great card game, but I have to say it is not for every player. It is like a chess. Well if you do not like chess or other similar type of games, this game is not for you.

UI will be reworked soon, tutorial is not strong side of the game, but once you understood basic go to PVP. it is worth to play, although you will need some grinding at the beginning, but it is quite comfortable if you are F2P player.
