Koi-Koi Japan [Hanafuda playing cards]

Koi-Koi Japan [Hanafuda playing cards]

I just plain love it!

Hanafuda is a tough game to describe. When people ask me about it I usually just say “It’s a lot like Go Fish, but with a deck of Japanese flower cards”. This is only partially true, the game is a bit deeper than that, but at it’s core the game mixes chance and strategy into a really fun, really unique match game. The cards, the rules and the scoring can appear daunting at first, but once I got the hang of it (I have some experience with this game elsewhere) it is a really great and unique card game.

I can’t recommend this game at full price. If you have friends to play with, it might be worth buying in a sale.

Koi-koi is a Japanese card-matching game using Hanafuda cards. It requires the players to match same-suit pairs of cards from twelve suits of four cards to produce sets (‘yaku’).

This implementation of koi-koi is very basic. The single-player AI is predictable, and not particularly hard to win against. The single-player mode doesn’t have a lot of replayability value, as it’s just the same game over and over. The single-player DLC requires the player to make certain yaku to progress. Some of these are very rare. While the pictures that you get as a reward are nice, it’s immensely frustrating to be unable to progress until you get an ideal hand.

Faerie Solitaire Harvest

Faerie Solitaire Harvest

At its core, Faerie Solitaire Harvest is Mahjong; that is, matching cards of identical value to remove them from the board.

Just like in Faerie Solitaire, Subsoap includes a good supply of abilities- in this game called “Talents” - which help to give the player more options than in a real-life card game of the same nature. The gameplay allows creativity and strategization, and I for one very strongly like that.

The music is very enjoyable as well. Placeholder paragraph for Harvest’s music.

The art in this game is, I’ll have to settle on saying for now, very good. It is staunchly improved from the first Faerie Solitaire; each Card, each icon for the Talents, and the pets are interesting and encapsulating to behold. I let this be a placeholder paragraph for until I can share my more fleshed-out review.

Standalone game set in the same universe as Faerie Solitaire.

I have always hated this type of solitaire… Until now. During the course of beta-testing, Faerie Solitaire Harvest has become the best, most-addictive solitaire game I’ve ever played.

The story is not like what we experienced in Faerie Solitaire. This time we find “shards” of lore that give us a lot of information about Faeverse and its denizens.

Options include separate sliders for Music, Ambience and Effects, plus Full-screen/Windowed and Custom Cursor. Under Game, you can even customize the colors of your suits! For instance, I made mine Violet and Pink instead of Black and Red.

Telltale Texas Hold ‘Em

Telltale Texas Hold ‘Em

DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review

THE GAME THAT STARTED AND ENDED THE COMPANY…

Telltale Texas Hold ‘Em is a game developed and published by the now defunct Telltale Games

The game offers some nice graphics, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless

Telltale Texas Hold ‘Em overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is a great casual poker game to play in short bursts!

We reviewed this game on our podcast: Garbage Game Night, where we try out poorly reviewed or bargain games and give them a second chance, either trying to find something the critics missed or enjoy them because they are so bad…

It’s hard to screw up poker. To be fair, they got the mechanics down. They didn’t try to reinvent the game. But have you ever thought, I enjoy poker, but wish i was hearing the constant banter of a Russian hitman, a grandma, a boomer’s idea of a surfer and another character that has such a forgettable personality quirk that I can’t even recall after hours of playing the game, a week later? Telltale, known for a very different style of gameplay apparently made this as a tech demo like project while waiting for licensing for other projects, it’s the first item you’ll find w/ the Telltale label and, that in itself does not make it worth checking out. They would go on to make the 2 poker games ‘Night at the Inventory’. This is not those games. This is the Texas Hold’em poker interrupted by mundane banter. If you’re still on the fence, let me give you a pitch:

Animals Memory

Nicely designed meme memory game with a decent level progression, cute animal pictures and a peaceful soundtrack. Resolution and window mode can be set via the typical Unity launcher.

Quick developer response and fix about a broken achievement, now they can be done in minutes.

The content is okay for the price.

This is a fine game. It is a good job done by these developers. Aesthetically pleasing, nice sounds, reliability, no glitches that I could see. I have played one game so far and I am thanking these devs for their work with the DLC version purchase. I encourage anyone looking for what we used to have for free that now microsoft has cucked and apparently they need to sell subscriptions for and no ads; to buy this game. This is good craftsmanship by these devs.
