TeamTower

TeamTower

Runeverse: The Card Game

Runeverse: The Card Game

New F2P card game, quite fun is like starting Hearthstone from scratch, to my liking even better since it has more strategy due to various factors in the gameplay. It is a clone of HS very well made but it has things from other classic games such as declaring attacks and blocks manually, the cards have animation on the board where the characters are seen, play card from your hand (ambush).

330 free cards for now of which very few have a random rng effect. Seasons with prizes with real money. Esta muy fácil el farmeo de oro ya que la entrada de lo que seria la arena/battlegrounds es free. Easy gold farming and free. Full friendly for F2Players.

This is a good card game. Very similar to Hearthstone, so if you enjoyed that or MTG…you’ll like this, A LOT.

If the DEVS don’t make the same stupid mistakes Blizzard and Wizards did this could be a top tier CCG. Didn’t notice any bugs during my limited play time. Game ran smoothly with all mechanics working properly for the cards used. No ridiculous cash shop prices and “elite” cards can be earned through play (the way all games should be).

Also, I was pleased to notice no political or social propaganda in the GAME I was enjoying. (*cough Blizzard/Wizards)

Wardens

Wardens

After having played this game extensively since I acquired it, I am posting this review in the hopes of addressing the points made in the negative review above, as the reviewer clearly does not understand the purpose of this game. This is going to be somewhat lengthy, will try to summarize at the top.

TLDR; Pro’s and con’s below. If you came here expecting standalone chess look elsewhere, if you are interested in a sandbox experience where you can create your own units read on.

First and foremost I would like to point out something that I believe is the reason for said reviewers negative perception of this game, and that is that Wardens is NOT chess. If you go into Wardens expecting standalone chess, you will be disappointed. At present the only resemblance this game has to chess is the movement and arrangement of the pieces (for now), and that it is played on a chess board. However, despite one of the default game types being Capture the King, Wardens lacks practically all other basic chess rules, such as en passante, castling, and most importantly, check. As your goal in the aforementioned game mode is to KILL the king, not checkmate him. This was done so as to introduce the concept of the abilities in a familiar way without overwhelming the player. As for the abilities being boring, I admit that I myself do not care for the starting decks. That is because those decks are more useful as templates, to showcase possible abilities and help you to make your own. So the abilities are only as boring as you make them. Granted the amount of things you can do at the moment is a bit limited, but there is a surprising amount of versatility with what is already there. With the tools currently available, I have created over 4 pages worth of cards, with varied abilities including, but not limited to, things such as a unit that when they have sufficient mana they and surrounding allies cannot be frozen, a unit that has an ability that grants permanent attack immunity until next overtake (akin to stealth), and a unit that allows allies to cast their abilities for free provided they have sufficient mana for said ability, although this requires (for now) compatibility to be integrated into the other units in order to work, as does my most recent unit, which will allow nearby allies to cast their abilities for 3 mana less. The list goes on, and it will only improve with time as more things become available.

As a chess player, this looked interesting, but I can’t recommend it. It’s basically just chess, but the pieces have boring abilities, their movement is unchanged. Board readability is terrible, all the pieces (both yours and your opponent’s) look too similar and so everything blends together until you can’t figure out what is happening anymore. There’s no tutorial, and the AI you can play against is terrible, if you’re decent at chess you will easily crush it.

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars Demo

I’ll just be straight to the point, I enjoyed the Demo. The presentation is both unique and well done. And while the story, at least in the demo, isn’t something we’ve seen in other RPGs or even D&D sessions, it tells it well and, since it is a demo, can go many directions with it. Just give the free Demo a try and see if it is your cup of tea as well.

This review is for the Demo. There is nothing compelling about the gameplay OR story. The UI is maddening because you have to click options twice. Speaking of clicking, this game is essentially a point and click game but a bit more arduous because of the aforementioned UI. The characters are bland af and there didn’t seem to be any tech tree or customization options. The combat system is so bleh. Is this game geared toward the 7-10 age range? Although the story wasn’t compelling, I did appreciate the writing style and the wit/humor. I also didn’t mind the mini games within (it was nothing special, but I enjoyed that aspect of it nonetheless).

玉言·离光

玉言·离光

I’ll go into some detail because there don’t seem to be any other english reviews yet. The game is listed as featuring english language support, but I couldn’t be sure if/how well it was implemented because the title and screenshots don’t include any english. I decided to give it a try because of the low price, nice visuals, and cool-sounding concept. I like deckbuilder roguelikes and play a lot of Genshin Impact, so I really liked the idea of a card battle system incorporating elemental reactions.

Interesting card system, where you’d want to balance your attacks and chain their effects. A few criticism so far:

1. the game needs more keyboard inputs, instead of just using mouse controls.

2. Obviously, if there is keyboard input, we’d need a mapping view in the setting UI.

3. Some effects like randomly nullifying a card we played is too powerful, mainly because we cannot plan for what to expect, thus killing our strategy.

Oh yeah, I played in chinese, so no idea how well the english version works.

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech

Makings of a Hero

SteamWorld is a franchise of vaguely connected games, each starring a friendly cast of robots. The latest entry – Hand of Gilgamech introduces a stark departure from the usual futuristic setting, venturing instead into the land of fantasy. Meet Armilly, an adventurer aspiring to at last become a member of the local heroes’ guild. Good heavens! The village has been invaded by an evil army and all of the heroes have been kidnapped. Such a tragedy, if only there was someone desperately longing for a worthy quest to finally prove themselves. It’s high time to gather your trusty companions and make this one count.

On my first playthrough I went with the Legend difficulty and I was not disappointed… Mostly. Also, quick note, I got the game half off so my thoughts are based around what I got for that price.

Starting with things I liked/loved:

  • The Art is beautiful.

  • The Characters are simple but lovable.

  • The Music I find to be very pleasant to listen to.

  • I love the opening and ending sequences, I wish there were more of these.

  • The Ending Song, while short, made me smile. I love it.

  • The card game mechanic is pretty solid. Deck-Building is fast and easy, chaining cards together for combos or allowing for an additional helpful card to be played is really fun, and while I didn’t use a lot of other cards, I can definitely see some ideas on how to use them for other play styles so I like that there is multiple options on how to play.
