For someone that is not new to this genre the mechanics were very simple and easy to manage. No issues with hand size becoming unreliable to click on (You can have 4 things). The very few ways I found to add more than the cap of 4 were always put into the shop for a 0 cost to enable the player to make decisions instead of lose things they worked for.

I went back and forth on this, but in the end, this no, you should not get this game. And that’s saying something, as it is free and remarkably free from pay-to-win or any other micro-transactions. The big problem is here is that your skill or understanding of the game really doesn’t matter - it’s all RNG. The game shifts heavily towards the end game with much more powerful creatures available, and if you can get them you win - if you don’t you lose. The best combos are ridiculous and insane and there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, you can do if your opponent gets the cards. Then there is the problem with creatures and treasures that are just plain broken and are strictly better than anything else out there. Finally, this game suffers a lot from “win more” syndrome: if you win a brawl you come out in a much better position than you had going in, so once you are down a couple of brawls it can be impossible to come back from. Then there is the problem of people who are determined to try and force their favorite build every time, meaning you can be deprived of key characters for your build - and there are really only three or four viable strategies to begin with - by bad players who take you out with them and there is nothing you can do about it.

Well, I have had many hours of fun trying to level up in this groovy title.

I just ran out of content upon reaching rank II.

There is strategy, and nail-biting, edge of your couch moments, and

there are times you take a break and play something else while you let

your high levels take time to level.

Looking forward to my first card over the monumental level 10 but

will wait for new content that is promised. With NO real end…

there isn’t a lot of drive to carry on at the moment.

I’m currently #4 on the worldwide PvP ladder in this game.

As you can see by my time spent in this game, I really tried to like it. It’s a fun browser game concept.

BUT you asked for $$$ after essentially everything you do. You can still have fun, but it’s God damn annoying.

Which would be something I could life with, if this game was more than a cash in.

There’s so much wrong:

  • At some point PvE simply ends. You LITERALLY can’t fight a single battle anymore.

  • You can only fight 5 PvP battles/ hours without paying $$$

Extremely Fun game with a unique and well designed card game mechanics. While there are a few things I think that could be improved, overall they really pale in comparison to the fun I’ve had from this game.

Pros

  • Fresh new card game mechanics with well designed factions that are both unique and synergistic

  • great story

  • Very replayable

  • Fun Gauntlet mode make your own deck each win with difference Champs

  • Great sound track and voicelines

Cons

  • animations and walking can get a little tedious on multiple playthroughs

This game could have been AMAZING but has some design and balance shortcomings. I’ll list them briefly then go into more detail below.

  1. No way to collect all the cards or undo certain permanent changes

  2. No real post game or new game+ to try out different deck types. Unskippable cutscenes ruin the thought of replaying the game.

  3. Some balance shortcomings can make a couple parts almost impossible in some cases, this game is otherwise extremely easy.

I still had fun with this game and not a lot of people make games like this anymore. The story and writing is charming and the art grew on me. The complaints only hurt so hard because the rest of the game shows so much promise. I still had fun with my 14ish hours of it but I wouldn’t recommend paying full price unless you really love these types of games.

This is an amazingly fun game. The first chapter of 5 is free but the rest will cost you. Not sure if they’re worth the asking price but when they’re on sale, definitely worth it.

The Huntsman: Winter’s Curse is a turn-based RPG where the skills you use are based on a deck of cards. Every piece of equipment you use (weapon, armor, and 2 accessories) will give you access to a different set of cards and sometimes a special bonus (or negative effect). So there’s a lot of strategy in what you decide to equip. On the same page where you choose your equipment is also a skill tree. Everytime you level up, you get to choose one perk - all passive.

The Huntsman : Winter’s Curse is a surprising gem in a fairytale universe, totally worth its price in my opinion. The first book is free to play : a perfect way to make your own opinion about it. And since this is a fairytale, your steam wallet will magically decrease in order to purchase the season pass. Remember : magic always comes with a price.

This game is so much more than a Visual Novel, I just fell in love with its unique type. The story is about Elisabeth, a stubborn girl who used to live in a farm with her father and decides to leave her village to start her own adventure. Her brothers left home years ago and it’s time for her to look for them and discover what happened. During her journey, she will meet many good or evil characters / monsters. Many dangers await but sometimes, fear and inner self are the worst enemies.

This is very close. Another game I wish I could give a neutral rating.

Its a push your luck card drawing game with each suit triggering a different mechanism and along with your traits you can combine them in to more or less devestating attacks in order to collect cards that bolster your score.

Contrary to some of the reviews Ive seen nothing to suggest that the AI is cheating, it does pull off some last minute nasty moves at times but keeping my cool I can think back to the many times I have done the same thing. How much this actually matters is debateable, if the game makes you feel like it is cheating then whether it is or it isnt, the frustration is always real. I think this will be the biggest sticking point for most people, at first it may not be quite so apparent but as things go on you will see through to the luck component of the game increasingly easily and more and more you will feel robbed by complete chance regardless of how well youve played a hand.

I really enjoyed this game, the rules are really simple to pick up, it’s fun to play, the characters are memorable and consistent in ‘who they are’ with the trait combos they use. The AI is really good and not overly cheaty, there were a couple of times I thought you wouldn’t keep drawing like that or you’d have had to have known that card was there to have carried on or to have played that card, but this didn’t happen often enough to make it a concern. It is incredibly fair the majority of the time.

I’m board game enthusiast. The game really has a “board game feel” to it. Never played the physical version, But it looks similar from videos I watched. In fact never heard of the game before it popped up in my suggestions. Love the deck building and resource management aspect. Not much reviews so far for the game.

Only still in the “tutorial” section (8 first missions). Like it very much so far…

TLDR; The game is well worth the $10 at full price, let alone sale price, even though there are a few minor inconveniences.

I’m a huge card game fan. Magic the Gathering, Dominion, Cards Against Humanity, etc. If it has cards, I generally love it. This game is no exception, and stands out in a couple ways over similair card based games that you can get on the PC. Compared to, oh say Magic the Gathering, the file size and resources required to run this game are miniscule. I often have my 12 gigs of ram stretched pretty thin, but never once has the game caused an issue with anything else running or been too much of a burden on system resources.

Ascension is a very good video game adaptation of one of the best tabletop competitive deck-building games, Ascension: Chronicles of the Godslayer. One player (with AI players) to four players can play locally (hot seat) or online (you must register for a free Asmodee online account), which allows cross-platform play (between Steam and various smartphone implementations).

The game

You start with the now-standard deck-builder set-up - 10 cards - and you draw back up to five cards at the end of each turn. Cards in the base game can be heroes (played once and discarded), constructs (semi-permanent), and monsters (defeat for points). Heroes and constructs generate two of the resources in the game: Runes (money for purchasing cards) and/or Power (fighting strength). Defeated monsters award you Honor (victory) points. You play cards on your turn, which generate Runes and/or Power, and you spend those to acquire or defeat cards that have been dealt from the shuffled “Portal Deck.” In addition to the minimum-six cards in the Portal Deck, there are always at least three other cards available on the side: two inexpensive heroes to buy, and one monster to fight. Heroes and constructs are worth some amount of Honor, while defeating monsters draws Honor points from the Honor pool. The Honor pool works as a timer for the game: at the start of the game, Honor is placed in the pool, and the final round completes when the last Honor points are drawn from the pool. Then the value of the heroes and constructs is added to the Honor points, and the player with the highest total wins.

Space, deckbuilding and conquering systems sounds like a winner combination. Unfortunately, the current design hides a rather lackluster deckbuilding experience behind a minimal effort to actually teach the game.

Even before diving into the subpar gameplay, learning how to play it is a chore in itself. The tutorial is one-pager trying to explain key concepts which is difficult to grasp without context (it’s not helping that it uses different terminology for draw, discard etc). What’s worse, in game it’s not possible to access the tutorial unless you quit to the main menu and there are 0 tooltips for clarifying parts of the game.

I had a good time playing it. Parts of it are definitely not polished, and I wish you could save 10 card decks instead of having to redo it every time you want to use those cards. Spawn locations are a bit too varied, as you can spawn right on top of the enemy or a good distance away. Decent deckbuilding game, worth taking a look at although it takes a couple of games to get use to and the tutorial is alright but hard to grasp. That is all I have to say, good time
