Knights of the Card Table

Knights of the Card Table

At its heart it’s not a bad game, but there are problems to be aware of. But first the good: It’s a light game that regularly introduces new elements. It plays well with risk/reward. The DM character has some fun lines. Now the bad: The elements it adds don’t do as much as they can to vary the game as you go along. There are stretches where the order you click the cards makes little difference, to the point where it can get a bit mindless. The big issue is that there are some optional levels that are exceedingly long, and as I noted with the sometimes mindlessness of clicking through thousands of the same cards, the levels feel even longer. Near the end there are several of these extra long levels which are not avoidable, and you grind to make it through. This becomes a problem as the game just sort of ends with a whimper.

In the humorous RPG-lite card game style of We Slay Monsters, Solitairica, Guild of Dungeoneering and looks like Letter Quest. Not sure why old school RPGs have to be parodies. Anyway, addictive and balanced game. Great design and programming. Very easy to get into. I was sold after 5 minutes from Youtube.

Ozma, a human hero of the war, embraced peace between the races, and proposed the erection of a city that would be a haven for humans and monsters to live in harmony. The city would be called KindFolx.

5 years later, Ozma would pass away, and as agreed, a Monsterfolk would take his place at the head of the city as a sign of trust and faith by the humans. Darlocke, a cruel general of the monster army, would bring about a new wave of human hatred. Oppression would begin, and homelessness, violence, and slavery inflicted on humans would soar.

Now, in order to prevent these growing atrocities from inciting another war, a team of adventurers have banned together to put everything on the line to overthrow Darlocke in the heart of the city.

Will you and the Adventurers Guild be able to successfully destroy the evil in the deepest parts of KindFolx?

It’s like a hilariously broken STS. I was looking for something in the mold of STS, but this… really isn’t it. Basically, if you’re any good at games like these, you will break open the game on your first run due to its amazing lack of balance. My first character, at the time I stopped playing forever, was breezing through the game with relics that:

Stunned every enemy, even bosses, for 6 turns at the beginning of every battle.

Started enemies taking 110% damage.

Started enemies with 7 poison.

I just want to say that this game is very similar to Slay the Spire & i think it’s a pretty fun game! However, there are bugs in the game like after a battle, sometimes i start back in the beginning of the map, the game says i beat the game randomly without defeating a boss, relics & potions can’t be picked up at random times & Magic orb can’t be picked at certain times. I would like it if the settings menu had more options like windowed mode & fast mode. I also would like more classes, leveling system, more music variations & more special events in rooms with “?.” Lastly, a new game plus, replay value & a lot of unlockables. I know it’s early access but I look forward to future updates & i am very confident that this game will be great!

Card of spirits(卡靈)

Card of spirits(卡靈)

“Card of spirits” is a really novel and interesting game. It overturns the traditional rules of card games, but adding new elements I have never seen. The winning condition is decided by the common cards' values. Compared with other card games which all have the similiar minions and spells, this game has a simple and fresh rules, but not losing strategies. The art in this game also shows a different view to players. In collection part, “Card of spirits” did really give me a big surprise. With new models adding, I think this game can be popular.!!!

I’ve played some more of it & decided to change my opinion to negative - the points I was previously referring to as “a little irritating” now seem to really get on my nerves & bad for such a small project.

It’s a very small colorful card game (against AI) with unknown rules (rather simple so you can figure them out soon while playing). It runs in a borderless static window 800x600, so what you see there on Steam screenshots is just someone’s desktop wallpaper behind the game window in the center. It’s being controlled from keyboard with just 3 buttons: left, right, enter. The program looks, works & sounds nicely - fonts, ornaments, sounds etc.

Alot of winning. Alot of losing, Ended up getting the top score but the game refused to let me submit. What really hurt was the dealer getting then over a dozen blackjacks in a row and busting out after just having 110k+ gold.

Last Kingdom - The Card Game

Last Kingdom - The Card Game

A fun P Vs. E style deckbuilder very similar in style to this dev’s earlier released Business Wars but with some cool fantasy twists. A few of the innovative features:

  • The player at random intervals can earn a choice of boosters (a set of 3 thematic cards based on the chosen bestower). The player can see exactly what cards would be granted in the 3 pack before deciding.

  • Each round you choose between 2 castles, and the one not defended is lost passing onto the player a nasty side effect. So as your character and deck grow in power, you’ll have more and more of these passive curses to deal with.

What is this game about?

Can a 120 card deck work? Yes.

Last Kingdom - The Card Game is, obviously, a card game but what’s so different about it comparing every other roguelike deckbuilders? For starters, you can end up with over 100 cards in your deck so it’s definitely not your typical deck builder but let’s start from the very beginning.

Dicey Dungeons

Dicey Dungeons

Dicey Dungeons is the best card-based roguelike out there.

I love card-based roguelikes, and I love Dicey Dungeons even more than Slay the Spire, heck, even more than Dream Quest. I’ve enjoyed over 200 hours of play (including pre-release versions I helped playtest, for which I received a free copy of the game) and will enjoy plenty more. Why? Depth, replayability, and sense of humor.

Once you’ve completed episode 1 with each character, you’ve barely scratched the surface of what Dicey Dungeons has to offer. Unlike some of Terry Cavanagh’s other games, Dicey Dungeons’s difficulty is pleasantly curvy! Casual players can enjoy the game, starting with the simpler classes. Hardcore players will be challenged by the more complex classes, and episodes 4 and 6 for each class.

tl;dr: If you like tactically tussling with RNG, Dicey Dungeons is easy to get into, but has a lot of surprises in store for you whenever you think you’ve gotten the gist of it. Terry Cavanagh is an excellent developer.

Full review: Great visuals, fantastic music, and quickly becoming one of my favorite indie games yet. Be warned, it’s moderately buggy and could use some small QoL improvements. If you don’t like RNG you probably shouldn’t play this (do I gotta say this?) but it’s not strictly unfair, rewarding on-the-spot thinking a lot. There’s a lot of ways to optimize your gameplay. Be prepared to get dunked on, as enemies can roll well just like you can, but runs are short for a TBS “roguelite”, at 30-45 minutes, so losing isn’t devastating in a vacuum~ This game opens up in unexpected ways as you go. Be prepared for change, and chaos.

Loved this game, it’s a great mashup between threes and blackjack.

I recommend this game if you want a relaxing but also challenging puzzle game

Interesting idea to mix puzzles and card games rules. Random elements brings a touch of card game feel.

Art is simple but nice, as well as the relaxing soundtrack. Good for card fans.
