Winkeltje: The Little Shop

Winkeltje: The Little Shop

This is a great little shop management game!

I look forward to seeing how it develops over its time in Early Access.

Things done great:

  • The villager AI is spot on! I haven’t had anyone get stuck in my store. I also like how the expectations of the customers seems to align with the items your store offers over time. I was worried when I moved away from produce toward a tailor that customers would’t get the picture, but after a couple of days they stopped hounding me for apples!

This game is a gem, plain and simple. It’s made for a very narrow spectrum of gamers though, you’ll probably know if it’s for you by just looking at the screenshots and reading the description, but I encourage everyone who is even a little intrigued or who enjoys relaxing sandbox style games to give this game a shot. Everything you see and read about it is what you’ll get when you buy this game. Nothing more, nothing less. If you bought this game and don’t like it, it’s because you didn’t pay attention or had unfounded and unrealistic expectations.

Death: The Ascension

Death: The Ascension

Certainly not for everyone, confusing at first, but has plenty of unique mechanics after you get past the learning curve

Update:

After a few ascensions, I have a better idea now how the mechanics and concepts fit into this creative new game developed by a very friendly and responsive indie-developer who has updated the game in quick response to suggestions on the discussion forum.

https://youtu.be/44Fzz7bToSo

What is it?

I would describe Death: The Ascension as a card/puzzle life-choice simulator in which you aim to optimize your chances of a successful ascension by manipulating event probabilities. It has a deck-building type of mechanic in which you add cards to your deck, but the deck is not a draw-deck. Cards in your “deck” influence the chances of drawing cards into the player’s five card hand from an infinite pool. In other words, if you have only one card in your “deck”, you have a 100% chance of drawing five cards of that type. You are playing cards against Death as your opponent. Death has their own deck that has similar draw mechanics, but only draws one card per turn. Each turn one card from each deck is played with four possible events dictated by the player’s card with varying probabilities for each event known ahead of time.

Erased my entire game. Also pretty monotonous because you just go from town to town without events. I never got attacked.

Shoppe Keep

Shoppe Keep

Summary

Shoppe Keep is a simulation management game. It puts the player in possession of a shoppe, and gives the player the ability to furnish their shoppe with displays / a small selection of decor, and the ability to sell what they want from a huge collection of items.

At this stage, the game is not polished but looks good regardless :: For an indie, built by a three person team, it was very well made and can only continue to get better as updates arrive.

Pros

  • The game can be addictive as you play due to the upgrade / skill system. As the player unlocks different displays to use, they can continue to organize and setup their shoppe any way they want. The player can sell whatever they want be it weapons, armors, hats / helmets, potions, or a combination of any.

UPDATE

I gave the game another shot by restarting entirely and it seems like I just had horrible luck in my first game. I did a few things differently. I read the tutorials more carefully and spent some time on the first couple days generating interest in my store by selling things directly to the NPCs. On the third day people started coming to my store to buy stuff!

Is it still clunky? Sure, but eventually you grow accustomed to the clunkiness(or not in other people’s cases sadly) and the game kind of flows from there.

Potion Party

Potion Party

I received this game as a birthday gitf. My friends and I have agreed not to buy multiplayer/party games as a group, since our schedules rarely allow us to actually play something together. So, I left Potion Party on my wishlist, afraid to waste money on yet another game I wouldn’t get to play with anyone. I was actually quite happy to receive it, tho, and more so when I realized I could use the remote play together to invite others to play with me. I didn’t felt like burning my PC while playing with friends, so I’d say it’s quite fun. It’s challenging, but just enough not to cause frustration or annoyance when someone makes a mistake. You can also play it alone just fine, and some strategies work better when you’re by yourself or part of a duo instead of a quartet. It’s a great game and I’m very happy with it. 3

First of all, I absolutely adore this game.

The art is cute and it’s pretty fun to play. I spent hours playing it with my friends and had a blast.

That being said, I have an issue with the multiplayer in this game. This game is only couch co-op (meaning local) or is remote play. I had to do the remote play as all my friends that wanted to play were online, which made playing the game difficult. The game was extremely laggy for my friends and it made playing the game very challenging at times. VS mode is pointless to us, because it just lags too much for it to be fun.
