Death Game+

Death Game+

Death Game+ has a simplistic artstyle that’s incredibly easy to pickup and play around in.

However, the game provides very little challenge, dying is incredibly easy and the campaign is relatively short and beat very quickly. The character acceleration is also insane and makes yourself hard to control so exploring a level is actually more difficult than dying in one.

if you’ve got money to burn and want do play something silly this is definetly the game for you.

Dog Eat Dog

Dog Eat Dog

Things are bad. Rent is late, again. There’s no food, again. Your father-in-law needs medication, again. Life is relentless. In this ethically ambiguous title, it’s time to set your morals aside, and do whatever it takes to survive. When all you have is nothing, you take from those who have it all.

Desperate Measures

When you’re feeling the squeeze from all sides, there’s little respite to be found. Playing as a scammer at a call centre in town, you do whatever it takes to provide for a struggling family, help a sick father-in-law and fend off those you owe.

How far will you go to protect the ones you love in a dog-eat-dog world?

Features

  • Tonally dark story with a noir feel.

  • Branching paths leading to differing conclusions.

  • Simulation gameplay, controlling people’s computers.

  • Over 20 different people to call, encouraging multiple playthroughs.

  • Every decision matters.

Katy and Bob: Safari Cafe

Katy and Bob: Safari Cafe

This is the second of Katy & Bob’s outings and despite being fun at a base level, is really quite lacking in other respects, particularly when held up against its predecessor. The difficulty curve is a ghost of its former self. While Way Back Home became more and more frenetic as you played, the highest scoring gameplay in Safari Cafe requires a lot of doing nothing for long periods which is much less fun and becomes repetitive much faster. Other than that it is a rinse and repeat of the prior game so if you enjoyed that there’s at least a fair chance you’ll enjoy this one.

It’s nice game for younger audience. For older gamers (like 7+) it’s just bad game. Very repetitive without any new improvements on new cafes that you unlock. It’s just same old, same old upgrades, starting from zero $ you have to upgrade everything… again. And another very big and obvious bad thing: if you are any good you’ll have more money that you can spend and that creates situation in which you play the game for no reason: you just wait to unlock new cafe and then your saved $ goes to 0. That’s just lazy design. I do recommend game for below one dollar though. With that amount of money you’ll keep your son/daughter nice amount of time practicing speed and precision.

Pixel Shopkeeper

Pixel Shopkeeper

While I mark this ‘recommended’, make no mistake: This is a highly niche product, with limited production values, and it shows.

That said: while this lacks some of the fluff and visual charm of games like Recettear, it benefits from being more streamlined in some respects, and having more interesting mechanics in others. The act of adventuring, for instance, is essentially reduced to frantically shoving items into your bag while keeping the corner of your eye on your HP, in case you need to use a healing item. Combat is completely automated, and essentially handwaved (although gear and level definitely play a meaningful role in success). Still, bag selection and prioritization of items (which things do I want to multiply, which things do I need to convert to gold, which things do I just take as-is, which things do I leave on the ground) makes this more engaging than it sounds at first.

Cute RPG Shop Sim

Pixel Shopkeeper is a cute shop sim in an RPG world. Customers of various classic RPG classes come to your shop to buy the equipment and consumable items they need.

The basic cycle is to alternate dungeon diving with shop days. There are several different battle areas around the islands of the game, and each area has increasing levels of difficulty. The first dungeon level in an area is free; the others take a small fee that increases with level.

Whatever the dark dungeons and monsters your customers fight, you will only fight on the surface world and bash a few cute animals. The “dungeon” fights always consist of four regular opponents and a boss. The battle music here resembles something from early Final Fantasy.

SuperOffice

SuperOffice

Dodging slow-motion shots and shooting back is really cool. And we missed a top-down game that way. The desire to play something like this motivated us to create SuperOffice.

The game begins when you wake up from a nap at your desk and find out that all your colleagues were kidnapped by aliens and that a jewel in your drawer allows you to control time.

But your office has changed a lot - aliens and monsters are everywhere chasing you. To clean up this mess you will need to use your jewel and any weapon you find along the way, from vases to throw at your enemies to swords that cut them in two.

In addition to the action, time control and a lot of weapons, SuperOffice also features bosses - the alien masters. Each one has a jewel, and getting them allows you to become even more powerful.

SuperOffice features

  • Infinite rooms: Dive into sequences of procedural generated rooms leading to alien masters.

  • Power collecting: Defeat the alien masters and get their weird jewels. You found the jewel of time on your desk drawer - what other jewels may exist?

  • Many weapons: From pistols, shotguns, machine guns, swords, knives to vases, computer monitors and your own fists.

  • Office environment: Tired of your work? Destroy monitors, work desks and report boxes - all in your time.

SuperOffice is currently being developed. Please feel free to ask us anything or give suggestions at support@growingseedgames.com .

Nova Odessa

Nova Odessa

A quick retro plunge with a paper-cut deep story. Reasonably fluid controls. A small variety of weaponry keeps repetitive combat somewhat freshy. Secrets were not deep dives into amazing lore, and it was kinda fun when the bum swore at me. I didn’t disjoy myself and thus I recommend.

According to the description, I missed half of this game. I killed many demons, but I don’t think I bought a single thing for my house! I wandered into the stores a few times, and periodically bought a coffee, but the shopkeepers never gave me a prompt to buy anything. Perhaps there was a location in my apartment to do this?

Either way, I enjoyed my time with Nova Odessa. I dug the jazzy music loops, although it seemed like they looped a bit TOO fast. I liked the equipment, which offers you new ways to move through spaces in the game. And although I felt like the ammo ran out too quickly, I liked the weapons as well. The enemies that look like rhinos and oozes require a specific strategy, which keeps the player engaged and prevents the combat from getting thoughtless. In addition, the game features some tricky bosses! Raimundo & Lesma, Thor & Belinda, and Mariano all required multiple tries from me to get through.
