Update: The developer has updated to game to address some of my concerns. That is very cool. ‘Easy Mode’ has been added, which is still very hard.

RE: Unapproachable Controls: Slight turns are now possible, and a fun drifting mechanic has been implemented. This is a big help.

RE: Powerups and road hazards look similar. Helpful icons have been added over power ups that help differentiate them from hazaards.

RE: Death walls. The walls of the arena electrocute you, and cause damage to your car. A front end collision with a wall is basically a death sentence. This is still a frustrating way to end a match.

Review

+ Merits:

If you are in a hurry and want to play a video game expeditiously, then I recommend Vanquish. It’s a relentless, fast-paced game that will fill-up your adrenaline to the maximum level with its intensive gameplay. Combine Bayonetta with Gears of War, and you will have something that resembles Vanquish, a fast-moving, cover-based shooter with some QTEs. From the third-person perspective, you control Sam Gideon, a guy augmented with a cool battle suit that’s powered by a portable reactor. It gives him post-human capabilities and grants us a stupendous warfare experience with its boosted slide and slow-motion mechanism.

At first blush, Vanquish is another third person cover-based shooter. But if you’re familiar with those deranged perverts over at Platinum Games, you should be instantly suspicious. This is a studio who is concerned primarily with making new IPs with new gameplay paradigms, and Vanquish is no exception.

Many reviewers have already discussed the general premise of the game, so I will spare you those details except to remind you that Vanquish is about Big Boss fighting robots in space using a rocket-powered mecha suit; he shoots, he slides on the floor like an idiot, he slows down time. Instead, I want to address the core philosophy behind this game (as I see it) and explain why I find it fun.

Kinda fun VR shooter.

Time warp/bullet time was great. I’m no twitch player, and being able to treat a shooter more like a tactical game is just my speed :)

BAD GAME for completionists and achievement hunters since to get 100% you need to play through it six times, once on each difficulty level. Nope. Nope nope.

Very short game, though - three levels. I played through it in two evenings, and have 7 hours playtime on it after exploring a third evening exploring the “Endless” mode. I tend to play slowly, so that’ll be an upper bound for how long most people play it.

Played on Oculus Rift w/ Touch

Verdict: buy on sale

Summary: short 360 degree node based wave shooter that’s a mix between Superhot (bullet time) and Robo Recall (mixed pistol and melee) but more basic than either

Pros:

  • auto saves at each node in the level

– There’s a few points that took me a while to figure out and if I’d had to restart the whole level I’d have Hulk-smashed my room and rage-quit half-way though (last node of level 2…)

  • bullet time makes the dual wield pistols practical

Lithium City

Lithium City

| Follow my curator for more great game recommendations! |

Lithium City is a wonderfully atmospheric isometric twin stick action game. You play as a female warrior working her way higher and higher up in the city towards a final battle.

The game utilises guns, melee and thrown weapons and at times you will need all three. All will need to be used and due to the scarcity of ammunition you will frequently have to change weapons on the fly. Shooting is tight and easy and the various guns have the weight you’d expect. Even when everything feels far too hectic you can usually get back on top with judicious weapon use and occasionally running away! The controls are simple shoot/stab/punch with one button and dash with another, that’s it. Though the dash can be a little imprecise at times.

A lot of people are comparing this game to Hotline Miami, which is true in a way. You enter a room with a pre-set enemy placement, and try to kill everyone in there, learning and adapting to where they are and what weapons they drop and the best way to plan your assault through it.

That being said, there’s a few stark differences between the two. Hotline Miami is focused more on larger levels, entire floor plans and buildings you have to clear out, whereas Lithium City has smaller rooms. Lithium City is a bit shorter, and each level has more of a specific concept it goes with, whether it’s utilizing moving floors or defending a single room with waves of enemies running in. The biggest complaint I have in regards to gameplay would be that Lithium City is short, with only six chapters it shouldn’t take you more than five hours to beat. Which is fine, for the price, but I found myself wanting more stages that were fully open, which don’t really come in until near the end of the game. It’s also isometric, which works really well with this kind of gameplay.

Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield

Aerial is a brand-new 3D auto-runner, indie-platformer that features a colorful world in a sci-fi setting. Here you get to take on the role of the silent protagonist Wally, who is running as fast as possible to outrun those who are trying to catch up with him.

During the game, you will get to experience a stylish none-combative platformer that goes through very linear gameplay with the character having quite a few awesome semi-pro parkour tricks up his sleeve.

So I just beat the game and the whole time I felt like I was playing a Jet Set Radio Future spin off. Which is a good thing for someone like me since that Sega classic is a top three favorite of mine. The stylistic cel-shaded aesthetic and the rhythmic jazzy hip-hop musicality feed into the rebellious atmosphere of the game and the protagonist perfectly. Especially as they attempt to escape from the clutches of a shady organization that attempts to capture or destroy them for reasons the game hopes you artistically interpret.

## Chaser

A really old first-person shooter with futuristic background, heavily based on the movie "Total Recall". Somehow, up to the moment, Chaser is the best game its creators, Cauldron, made for all those years.

If you haven't played it before, when it was all fresh and comparable to the actual FPS on the market (2003, before such hits as Far Cry, HL2, and FEAR) - well, the game isn't aged well. If you're not down with old-school gaming mechanics, you'll most likely shouldn't try to play Chaser now. The game has many obvious and troublesome downsides, it is a real pain in the back for any casual nowadays gamer.

"Basically Nintendo 64 & Total Recall"

Chaser is a FPS and the very first game ever built on the Cloak NT 3D engine. Developed by Cauldron http://www.cauldron.sk/ a Slovakian gaming company more notorious for their Cabela franchise. Chaser was released in 2003 which is kind of strange since N64 was released back in 1996 and this game felt somewhat more as a continuation from that cream of the crop.

The game depicts the near future when man has inhabited Mars. In 2036 a coalition of 36 BIG corporations establish the MARSCORP with the goal of terraforming the planet. However, in 2042 the UN makes Samuel Longwood the director of this organisation who then begins to separate Mars into becoming more an independent government with himself becoming its dictator. Eventually a rebel movement headed by Graham Castor is formed whose sole goal is to liberate Mars from this oppressive government. Their continuous rebel strike movement has been long standing and elusive from Longwood's control and the UNIA Special Forces.

### 1)Story/Concept :

| Single Player | Shooter | Arcade |

| Bullet Hell | Side Scroller | No Campaign |

Endocrisis is a pure Side Scroller-Shoot'em Up (Shmup) inspired by some classics of this genre like Darius,Gradius or R-type!While it doesn't feature a true campaign, the main goal of the game is to beat the stages that the game offers, until you unlock the final battle in order to beat the game.Every stage is being described as an emotion.Emotions like Anxiety,Fear,Panic are some few examples. You have to beat these stages,in order to reach the final battle with "THE MIND"-which is your mind ,that wants to control you and convince you to…not follow your emotions!

*– [Real player with 19.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197985578796)*

The mechanics of Endocrisis range from single runs similar to Steredenn (A channel favorite) to frantic bullet absorption that feels like the Ikaruga polarity switching (Another channel favorite). There is also an interesting resource management component that revolves around your available life which depletes based on the number of bullets you shoot, as well as raises based on the enemy bullets you absorb. Essentially, if you love auto-fire in Shoot'em ups, you will need to learn to conserve in certain stages. These mechanics bound with the Neon color palette and slick enemy designs collide in an interesting game that is even more impressive when you look at the fact this is the developer's first published title.
