Dustoff Z

Dustoff Z

Nice little snack-size blast-em-up to enjoy between bigger gaming jaunts. I’m surprised this has so few reviews on steam as it’s perfectly functional and cheap game to pick up and gun through on a lazy weekend afternoon. Ignore the time played, I probably took about 4 hours to complete this fully.

The basic premise is you fly a helicopter about on a 2.5D plain after a zombie apocalypse has occurred, strafing zombies down below, all the while performing convoy escorts, base defense, cargo delivery, and survivor rescues. You upgrade the helicopter and onboard gunners with coins and parts/supplies that you collect/earn for completing missions. There is quite a variety of zombie types arrayed against you with plenty of damage they can bring to bear on you (and even the unarmed walkers have a serious jump you need to dodge or you’ll be pulled out of control into a horde). You have to manage your fuel, health and ammo meters throughout each mission which you top up from collectibles that spring from killing zombies or landing or recharge helipads, which also double as in-mission save spots.

Hi everyone I am the bkbossman, you can find me on youTube and publishing videos here on steam. First off I’d like to thank Alf and Marie from Zordix publishing for putting me in touch with this little gem.

I’ve played a few hours of Dustoff Z now and I’m enjoying it thoroughly, it has definitely taken the great aspects of the original Dustoff Heli rescue and enhanced them with a better tech tree, graphical enhancements and a fun and engaging story line.

The original was simple involving just 4 upgrades (2 choppers and 2 guns) and focusing on great game play, something which has transferred well into this latest iteration. The tech tree has been expanded so you now have not only more helicopters to choose from but you can upgrade them individually. You can also now choose to have gunners on your chopper and the type you bring with you can affect your progression in the game.

ARCH STONE vs The Zombie Specters is another Archor Games classic. You play as ARCH STONE, a tactical blue sweater enthusiast, out to save the world from a virus outbreak. Equipped with an array of powerful weapons, strong knee attacks, intense vehicles, and the all important blowmo button (press ‘b’ for blow motion), you will wade through mercs and specters to get to the end of levels.

I enjoyed my time with this game and am always looking forward to see what the developer is working on next (they have been cotninually upping their game and its great to experience).

Double Kick Heroes

Double Kick Heroes

Intro

There have been so many rhythm games over the years varying in overall idea: dancing to music in time, playing plastic guitars in time, pressing keyboard buttons in time, and even racing to music in time. Double Kick Heroes may not seem any different from these other games but it is in one small and simple detail: you aren’t just keeping in time. Being solely based off of the drum beats and patterns, the game focuses on the overall groove of each song rather than just watching the screen and reacting to visual cues. Through my first playthrough of the story mode, I played it like I would any other rhythm game and relied on the visuals to guide me through the songs. The difficulty immediately ramps early in the story however (which i’ll talk about soon) and i found that it was difficult to complete songs, ultimately failing a lot. After practising a little more, I started to get into the groove and into the mindset of a drummer and found it 10x easier to complete every song and ultimately more enjoyable than any other rhythm game.

I’ve tried and bought the game at Stunfest a few days ago. It’s a great game, I definely recommend it !

The songs are really nice and the graphics are pleasant too.

I’m not very familiar rythm games so I had a hard time on some levels (T-Rex for example) but I still managed to beat the game in Metal difficulty. There are currently no level with 3 tracks in that difficulty and you figure out quickly that the second track is optional (the main combo does not reset when you miss the cymbals) so I sometimes just ignored that second track to be a bit more focused on the main one (especially on the tank boss).

The action is solid, shooting enemies and dodging feels satisfying. Characters are funny enough and I like our robot sidekick. The soundtrack is pretty good to listen to for the duration of a single playthrough.

Now, to the downsides: the mouse controls are really bad and feel tacked on. Expect playing on a gamepad to be almost mandatory.

The game frequently hanged for a bit, which suggests the game is not optimized, which is particularly bad for an action game. Turning off screen shake seems to have made this problem better. Somehow I have the achievements for finishing the first and fourth stages, while not having the achievements for the second and third. Probably a bug.

This game is fun and fast paced, reminiscent of Hotline Miami in it’s speed and execution. The gameplay itself is simple but challenging, as you have to be pretty precise since it’s a shootemup. There wasn’t any place I got tired of any of the levels themselves, as each level is maze-like and you kind of have to strategize the way to get through each one without running into an overwhelming pack of mobs. The mobs do respawn continuously but do give you just enough breath if you’re fast enough. All in all, I am terrible at this game but I still beat it somehow.

Zombie Party

Zombie Party

As of May 19th 2016, I recommend. Lots of replay value.

It’s August 2019 and the game still provides much entertainment.

Zombie Party over all was a nice bullet chaos with RPG elements and chaos as a middle name. And you can you will be able to share it with your friends! There are more weapons and extra abilities than you can wrap your head around. There are 4 game modes (Adventure, Dungeon, Arcade & Deathmatch) so its your choice what you feel like. Set your pace with Dungeon mode or if you want a chaos filled flying bullet nightmare check out the other three modes. Plenty of entertainment if this is your flavor of game.

Zombie party is the first twin stick shooter that I’ve played in my life and I found the experience quite enjoyable. Although I can’t compare it to other games of this genre, I can clearly say that its a pretty well done game. It comes with lots of features, several game modes, it is vastly customizable and has huge replay value. All in all, it presents itself as an almost complete and solid product.

As a newbie in this genre, I found the learning curve quite easy. No matter the game mode chosen, you will have to do essentially the same thing: kill everything that dares to move. To accommodate myself with the game, I chose to play Dungeon mode first - maybe it’s the easiest of all since the mobs are usually in groups, therefore the player has enough time to plan their attacks.

Simple, decent and fun top down wave shooter. Controls got kind of glitchy sometimes, got stuck on the environment a lot and the sounds glitch out when there’s a lot of stuff going on.

Not broken, but has a long way to go to become something that sustains my attention for more than a few minutes of gameplay. At $10, I just can’t recommend it at this time.

Defend the Fort

Defend the Fort

Was asked to check this game out. I have been playing the same game for over 8 years. I thought why not. I am all about new developers!

Overall Game was fun. Its a tower defense style. I found a way to cheese it but I think as the game grows the developers has so much they could add. I think adding task could help keep you moving and not keeping things up to speed. Also maybe adding the guns to break after an amount of time. I will say this is a fun game that is well worth the few bucks they are asking. I would like to see more additions in the future but overall I played over and hour and didn’t realized it had been that long.

Fun game to play, it doesn’t get boring and it doesn’t make you rage. Price is reasonable.

When the game will have multiplayer mode, it will be alot better and way more fun to play. I’m waiting for the update.

Edit: multiplayer mode is out and the game got alot better! Great progress.

I like it for a very affordable game, but I definitely have some ideas to make this better and also add a lot of replay value as well in my stream of it.

As it is, I recommend it for a cheap 30 minute game or so game. I give this a 7.5 but it could be made better for sure.
