//N.P.P.D. RUSH//- The milk of Ultraviolet
You know what makes NPPD Rush great? It doesn’t explain anything. What many will identify as negative aspects of the game, some will find to be perfect for the vibe the developers intended.
The game is confusing. The gameplay and core mechanics are not described, or taught to you through ‘learning levels’ like so many other titles. The teletype text and short ‘scenes’ don’t give the player much more than nebulous hints, but encourage an imaginative player to read a great deal of the story between the lines. The crazy colour scheme, soundtrack and HUD make the game difficult to follow, and it will take you a number of playthroughs to figure out even the core mechanics.

Indie game, N.P.P.D RUSH - The milk of Ultraviolet, tries it’s best to bring retro arcade style goodness to the Steam storefront with it’s top down shooter gameplay and maze like level exploration, but unfortunately it falls short in a number of areas. Even with the low cost of entry and the fact that it is currently on sale for 20% off as a new release, N.P.P.D does little to innovate in a genre that has been inspired by a plethora of other indie games as of late. The look and feel are straight out of the mid-to-late 80’s, but the gameplay unfortunately doesn’t live up to the expectations or the intuitive mechanics we’ve come to enjoy from other modern classics such as Retro City Rampage or Hotline Miami. If you’re feeling nostalgic then you’d be better off saving your money for one of those two titles rather than picking up N.P.P.D RUSH in it’s current form. The gameplay sounds interesting on paper, but is only interesting for brief periods of time and coffee break style playthrus. In fact it’s very hard to categorize or compare the gameplay when it feels like a combination of less complete versions of more popular games and arcade gameplay styles.

Jetboard Joust
Introduction
Jetboard Joust is a pixelart roguelike shmup. It’s the sequel to a ZX Spectrum game the developer made as a teen 30 years ago which in turn was inspired by Joust. The sequel has game elements from Defender as well. A major improvement overall.
Gameplay
You’re on a jetboard equipped with a pistol, your task is to protect the babies, clear the level of bad guys and destroy the world bosses. You jetboard is capable of jousts, temporary boosts you can use to quickly get away from a fight or destroy multiple enemies at once.

Kind of like Defender and a bunch of other cool arcade games from the 80s did a shedload of PCP and then spawned this monster.
Gameplay is very Defender-esque. Basically shoot everything - especially the aliens that are abducting the humanoids, only with a gazillion more enemies and weapons, most of which are very chunky and satisfying (sometimes downright hilarious) to use.
Then there’s a roguelite element where you choose a route through the different levels to earn different types of bonuses and also earn cash which can be spent on upgrading weapons and other equipment. It’s enough to add a layer of depth and replayability to the game but not too much to distract from the overall blast-fest.

It is a good game, however this game should come with a manual but for future reference, z to play x to shoot. you can’t use mouse to move but rather the up down left and right keys. It is not a must buy but if you are a pro mover then it’s a must buy game. It is hard to defeat but not impossible. This game doesn’t have any sexual content or nudity. A game just for fun.

Barrage Fantasia
Don’t be misled by its cute gfx, this is the real thing.
I would have liked some pixel gfx a bit less coarse though.
Unlocking all stuff will show you the whole content, and then it will be time to go for the score.
(works fine on a lean glibc/linux distro in the steam runtime)

Barrage Fantasia is a pixel aesthetic shmup that caters to both beginners and experienced players alike. The music is pretty neat. The different types of familiars and specials depend on whether you want to play for survival or mainly for score. The way the big bullets and big hitbox visually remind me of The Adventures of Ten and Till. Just like Ten and Till the hitboxes seem to be a little bit smaller than they look. Maybe not as extreme as Ten and Till but it’s definitely noticeable.
if you’re looking for a cute shmup and a relatively easy clear this is pretty much the game for you. Not many people will enjoy the type of scoring the game shows but I personally dig it. You pretty much have to “all break” all of the boss’s parts and also cancel OR graze bullets into hearts to be able to refill your heart meter. Once you haven’t been hit for a while (depends what difficulty of life you choose) you will glow a green barrier which will then allow you to get bonus’s each time you extend another life in exchange for already having max life.

Blasters of the Universe
I play on the Oculus Rift and it works perfect with only 180 degrees of freedom.
This is my all time favorite VR game of the about 130+ titles I’ve played so far. It was much better than expected on the video.
The gameplay is amazingly perfect! Bullet hell is a very good discription of this game. There’s always shots and enemies somewhere and you have time to react to everything going on. I truly feel that it’s my own fault for doing something stupid and I get better all the time. All the shots coming at you makes it super immersive. The formations of the shots makes it very interesting how to tacle them. Finding a spot to stand where everything flies around you feels awesome.

BOTU is a wave shooter set inside a retro themed arcade game - it’s conscious about you playing a VR game.
You have a gun and a shield. As you progress through the “campaign” you unlock more shield types and components for the weapon customization. As you make kills, your weapons special ability charges - this brief effect (also customizable) can be anything from a powerful ray to invulnerability.
There are 4 levels in the campaign, each ending with a boss fight. Once a level is unlocked, you can also play it in endless mode. On top of that there’s a challenge mode which runs for a few days, with a predetermined weapon and shield. There are global leaderboards for all levels/modes.

Hypnorain
Great colorful scroll shooter, with anime bewbs on board :) :
+Visuals: overall design is great, the menu looks nice, the hud looks nice, projectiles and anime gurls looks nice, mobs looks cartoonish but it’s okay.
+Sound: nice music work with 1 problem - if you minimize the game you still hear the music
?_? I guess this is the game engine flaw, so NSFW :)
+Gameplay: Classy Touhou like scroll-shooter, the easiest difficulty already hard for me, I guess you need some practice, you have huge a55 hitbox located in your аrsе (basically all of it), so be careful and don’t get your butt shot off :), you have an option to make the hitbox permanently visible, not only in focus mode, this is pretty helpful, but the game is still very challenging.

This would be a very weak “Well, it’s completely competent” yes, if it weren’t for the fact that the game is not just bland, but has a real weak bug (ie, every time you hit the default select key on a controller to go to the next stage, it chews a bomb).
It’s utterly charmless, every non-boss enemy sprite is in stage 1, patterns never really do much, and the music is Baby’s First Casio. This is the most paint by numbers bullet hell you could possibly try. Just skip it.

Space Codex
Game Summary:
The simple way to summarize this game is that it’s a classic arcade space shooter, to the extent your objective is to obtain a high score. Doing so is as simple as building up a point multiplier by killing enemies and staying alive. Unfortunately, there’s nothing more to the game than that. Except for an option to play the game where the screen is almost entirely black, with only a small radius visible around your ship, there are no other game modes or features to play around with. I suppose this dark mode option does grant some novelty factor, but it doesn’t show much versatility or creativity on the developers' part. It makes me disappointed that their innovation stopped there, as they could have expanded with a swath of different options and features that could be turned on or off to change up the gameplay and difficulty. That could have come off as gimmicky, but since it’d all be optional, it wouldn’t hurt the game to have more variance.

Introduction
Space Codex is a Retro, Arcade top-down shooter which deprives its gameplay time to waves of enemies hoarding in upon you. Plays like a retro arcade game, with the graphics and sound really suiting the mood of the game nicely.
Gameplay
This game is set out to be a Retro Arcade inspired game, and it exceeds that expectation really well. It implements a few of the mechanics that you would expect to be in a retro arcade game. These mechanics are setting high scores, being able to collect powerups, multiple choice of what ship you want to choose to be ect. The game, for me, set high standards when I first opened up the game.

Asteroids… But Roguelite
The progression/choice is super cool. It captures this feeling I like from games like Asteroids and Galaga, but adds a whole new dimension where score matters (because you get money for upgrades from it), and you’re given meaningful choices.
There’s a couple ways I’ve played it; 1. just trying to get the perfect score streak/multiplier through precision, or 2. brute forcing it with epic upgrades. I am #2 on the leaderboard at the time of my writing, and I felt somewhat godlike with my bombs, shotgun lasers, sniper, shield, max health, etc…

I originally bought this game back when it was first released on Itch.io, and it’s definitely had some improvements since. Unfortunately that also means several exploits/cheap tactics I used to use to reach the top of the leaderboard, have been patched. I suppose it was inevitable.
–———————–
Asteroids… But Roguelite is exactly what it claims to be, and it does a damn good job at it. It starts you off as a weak ship, and you find yourself needing to increase your power at a very quick pace to stand a challenge against enemies.

Calturin
This is a really awesome game!
There are some bugs, but not game breaking, and they have to be triggered intentionally.
It took me about 2.5 hours to complete (only the green portals).
It has very good voice acting and awesome sound effects.
The pixel art style also fits the game and it’s story very well.
The only thing I would change would be the bosses. With each portal their attacks get stronger, but they aren’t harder beat necessarily. Some attacks are stronger but easy to dodge. The dragon for example is very easy to defeat, compared to the bull? before, which is a little bit harder, or the knight at the beginning.

This is a nice little game.
Do be aware that it is short, around 2 hours to complete the main game, and double that to complete all the challenges.
On my first playthough, I was on the fence about liking the game but midway through the game picks up and becomes pretty fun. I really like the graphics although they do seems somewhat amaturish at time or lacking some small amount of polish that I cant put my finger on. That being said I really love the title screen art and the player sprites. The combat is pretty simple which is good for this type of game(shoot, blink, heal).

Cosmo Chaser is a bullet hell shooter where the enemies have infinite, long-lasting bullets whereas you have slowing, short-distance bullets. I couldn’t even complete the first step. 3/10
