Gun Bombers

Gun Bombers

I am addicted to this game. 59 hours in, and I still want more. I got 3, so I could play with my kids, and they destroyed me. So I decided to practice in single player mode, and I am having more fun trying to beat my high scores than I was playing multiplayer. The addicting parts are 1) finding gems or gold, and 2) trying different strategies to last longer.

Admittedly the graphics are not very good, but the gameplay is fantastic and devilishly hard.

This is a fantastic throwback to the original Mine Bombers. Got a copy for myself, my brother and one of my freinds, convinced a few more to get it and had an awesome time playing. I don’t generally write reviews but this game deserves it. I highly anticipate what features come out for it in the future as it is early access.

This gets a huge reccomend from me, get it, grow the community I want to blow of more people.

downsides

You will have to forward ports 55555 in order to host.

it does not get along with certain antivirus programs for some dumb reason.

Good game, I very much enjoyed it.

As I see some reviews, I feel I should write something that ‘overcomes’ them all - well, I cant do that. But… This is finished game, balanced and polished. Long enough - maybe 14 hours to end story mode. Some levels are harder than others, not overwhelming, so game difficulty (adjustable: easy, normal, hard)is fine.

It brought me memories of Xenon II Megablast - my favorite shmup of all time - you have to even collect little balls from dead enemies, except story mode can’t be played through on one session (thankfully) and the music is not as good and…

I actually do recommend Stellatum, but it comes with an awfully long list of qualifiers to that and a lot of issues, so this is marked not recommended for those who are looking for the problems with the game as there may very well be dealbreakers in here for you. I could not in good conscience recommend it to just anyone who likes space shooters. If you don’t mind the things I’m about to mention though, then I can fully recommend it.

So first off, other negative reviews have stated that the component parts you need to craft items are really random. This is true, you will often be missing key pieces. As you get into later levels, more pieces drop, but more are needed, so this doesn’t help much. Fortunately, there is also a universal item drop that every enemy drops which lets you craft any component part you need. This isn’t mentioned anywhere in the tutorial and it’s not especially obvious on the crafting screen you can do this, but it means playing through each level once will typically give you enough parts to build anything you need, but you may need to craft specific parts at times.

Wand Wars

Wand Wars

Wand Wars is a really polished game, and probably the best party-game I’ve ever played.

While there’s a clear Lethal League feel to it, it’s clearly more accessible, because the game mechanics are so simple. The problem with Lethal League is that even though it’s an excellent game, it has that fighting game aspect that makes it very complex. You’ve got to learn safe zones, angles of shooting, bunts, with or without jumps, special moves, etc… and consequently, when you hit 50 hours of playtime, your friends will be no match for you anymore.

I love playing four player co-op games that are suitable for groups of varied skill level. This game manages brilliantly, another title with simple controls but surpisingly deep gameplay. Plus superb art and visual effects, stuff that makes the gameplay feel super satisfying when you land that sick off the wall double kill. In addition to the main mechanic of playing dodgeball with a big ball of magic you have power-ups and the ability to turn other players into chickens (take that Kyle). Lastly the game comes with a good selection of maps, each with its own unique twist. One map has fires you can light with your chicken spell, light them all and you summon a minion to help you; another features bubbles that you must break to get the powerups. All in all this is one of those games that will have all your friends asking when they can stop by and play again.

Another Unity asset flip without anything worth mentioning, the common buy and sell was your own kind of stuff.

This is a pure Asset flip of https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/87301 which comes with full source code. They didn’t even bother changing the name.

Zonitron uploaded the exact same game under 3 different names before they got banned by Valve.

All you do here is click in the general direction of enemies. Half of your playtime will come from watching the level switch animations.

Mech Rage

Mech Rage

The game is honestly not that great design-wise. The difficulty balance is quite erratic, the game lacks some basic functionality such as keybind remapping, saving mid-level, or even accessing any settings during a level. The dialogue is cheesy (although admittedly, it has its funny moments). But in the end, I did have fun playing it, and isn’t that what counts? I definitely wouldn’t pay the full price for it, but it’s not a bad way to spend a boring Saturday afternoon.

Nothing wrong with a nice, simple roguelike now and again, and that’s what this game is. Simple and fun. Play as a mech driver defeating hostile aliens that are really sentient robots, but splitting hairs. Mech Rage wants the player to use strategy and tactics more than run and gun, spray and pray tactics that even I’m more accustomed to doing. Rewards for solving puzzles are mech upgrades to help the player in later levels. It’s a solid, fun game that may be basic to many, but offers replayability and simple, plain fun.

Blast-off

Blast-off

An innovative premiere indie arcade physics based matter anti-matter title which is essentially a vertical runner. Blast-Off differentiates itself by using physics based propulsion. Essentially you are an anti-matter sphere traveling to leave a matter based universe. Through interaction with game assets you are able to generate propulsion upwards towards your goal.

The shooter element is implemented as you encounter matter based spheres which look to ruin you and end your game. Using a variety of load-outs you “blast off” each piece of matter. The closer the sphere to you when you eliminated it from the play field the more propulsion you generate.

At first glance I kinda liked this game. A unique backwards shoot em' up. In order to keep moving you need to gain momentum from shooting enemies in a close proximity below you and use the explosion as forward force. Or fly over the green or blue boost pads along the level. You can also unlock a teleport ability to switch “lanes” quickly. This Movement mechanic was new and exciting… for about ten minutes. Unresponsiveness become a problem as soon as I tried taking the game seriously. Infinite mode sounds like you would not need to hit boosters or enemies to keep moving forward. Like a zen mode, but no, it is rage inducing all the same as challenge mode. You have a few thrusters on each side of your pod that control direction. They are sluggish simple as that. It feels like sliding on ice. I think we all agree we don’t like that feeling.

Lot’zAmonsters

Lot’zAmonsters

Lot’zAmonsters is pretty fun. It’s pretty much like if Nuclear Throne was an arcade game and was, uh, a lot more repetitive… That said, I have an unreasonably high tolerance for repetition, and there is a lot of upgrade paths and weapon choices you can take every run. I’m pretty sure I’m like the only person out of like the twelve people who’ve bought this game that has played it a semi-significant amount, so I figured I might as well fill the empty void in the reviews section with my own thoughts.

I had a lot of fun with this one. You could feel the inspiration of classic 2D sidescrollers of the past like MegaMan and Metal Slug in the over all game feel and design. I enjoyed the art style of the game, but could see how it might be a turn off for other gamers. If you’re an achievement chaser, there is a bit of replayability in this one. Otherwise, it’s pretty straightforward in regard to play through time; a few hours of your time will clear the game.
