Roseblight

Loved every minute of it. I had sat for two days playing it straight! I might even stream it just to have fun with the possible voice acting here! Though I say the game is tough at points but hey! No pain no game!

Bought the game on itch first about half a year ago, and it gave me a steam key now. Game’s fun.

Review edited for release… still nothing but good things to say about it!

There is tons more I could say about this game and how much I enjoy it than what is in this review, so free to message me on Steam if you have any questions. I highly recommend this game if you’re looking for something new in your action roguelite/dungeon-crawling experiences… it was the most polished Early Access Alpha I had ever played, and is even better now that it is released.

Graphics

Very nice and consistently styled, even in the character screen. The choice in what a friend of mine put as “playful yet macabre” is spot-on, and a very nice change of pace from others (not that those are bad, but FMR is a unique breath of fresh air).

If you didn’t think there was enough “Gauntlet” in “Gauntlet”, you should probably invest in this. I will mention Gauntlet rather a lot in this “review”, btw.

The first point, and it’s a reasonably large one, that this game scores over Gauntlet is that it has genuinely random (thus replayable ad inifinitum*) levels and a fairly expansive character customization section make this a far more worthwhile purchase. Gauntlet promised randomised, limitless levels and failed to deliver, preferring instead to rotate a level through 180degrees or make you do them “the opposite way round” (from start to finish in a ‘death’ level, for example). It’s obvious, woeful and does nothing to hide the fact that you’re always playing from a small group of levels that can easily be remembered, no matter what way round they are.

The Outbound Ghost

The Outbound Ghost

────────────────── Press Kit | Discord | Twitter ─────────────────── ⠀

The Outbound Ghost is an adventure RPG about a ghost figuring out the cause of their own death, and helping others come to terms with the afterlife. You’ll play as an amnesiac ghost who wakes up in the outskirts of the town of Outbound. It just happens that it was the site of a serial killing a few weeks before you came into the picture.

Meet ghosts and engage with a variety of gameplay systems that are intertwined with the story in order to free them to the afterlife.⠀

  • Meet a colourful cast of characters each with a troubled life before their death.

  • Engage in word battles inspired by Undertale’s combat.

  • Take in the beautiful vistas of the Paper Mario-inspired world.

  • Experience a one of a kind story about the meaning of life (and death).

In the world of The Outbound Ghost, ghosts are the embodiment of regret. Most people go to the afterlife after dying, yet those who were unhappy with their previous lives become ghosts and are forced to haunt the Earth until they right their wrongs. Of course, this is not always possible since doing this as a ghost is orders of magnitude harder than when you are a human. However, some manage to do this and are able to spend the rest of their deaths in the afterlife. In The Outbound Ghost, your task is to help others fix or come to terms with their past lives so that they can enjoy the pleasures of eternal bliss. You must achieve that for yourself too, but it’s not so easy to mend the mistakes of your past life when you don’t even remember them.
