Star Apprentice: Magical Murder Mystery

Y’all I think someone in the staff likes

! Jojo.

On a more serious note, this was really fun to play! The sprite work is really great and I loved the opening when you start the game. I can very much tell that this game took some inspirations from games like Danganronpa and other murder mystery VN-type games. Along with some inspirations from games like Touhou and Ikaruga. Now, I’m not that good at bullet hells so when I checked the options and saw infinite lives I went “oh thank god”. I still very much enjoyed the gameplay from it and having to dodge the bullets while trying to figure out whether the current statement is contradictory or not (or finding the time to focus on reading it in some cases).

I played this game one night with friends and had a blast!

The unique and interesting concept definitely makes this a game to try out if you have some time to kill as the game is quite short in length. Especially appealing to Bullet Hell or Dangan Ronpa fans but can be played by anyone!

  • The dynamic soundtrack is awesome and goes lovely along side the detective work. Very befitting of the “Detective” tag!

  • Minnie and the other characters have interactions that are sweet and conversation is smooth and feels genuine.

Knighty Night

Knighty Night

Knighty Night is a fantastic game that can be completed within a few hours. The fascinating story that follows a brave night traversing through four different parts of a haunted land, fighting ghosts and the traps they set up to keep the knight from defeating the evil that plagues the area. Unlike many indie games that stick to a 2D style, this game takes full advantage of Unity by pushing 3D graphics, animations, and a birds eyes camera to follow the player. Not only does the game look beautiful, it sounds beautiful. Every sound in the game plays perfectly with what it is complimenting on screen. But if you like your game silent, this game has the ability to silence just the SFX, Music, or both if that’s what you’re into. Like the sound, this game has video settings that allows your game to be windowed, fullscreen, and different resolutions so no monitor will feel left out.

Retexo Mori

Retexo Mori

“Above all, we hold this to be irrefutable: Death is the only True Evil. Retexo Mori.”

  • Daily Prayer of the Unyielding

Retexo Mori is a Pac-Man-like game in first person, with bullet hell elements and an aesthetic that clashes early 90’s FPS pixel-art with vaporwave. It features short, high-intensity rounds inside carefully crafted arenas where you must navigate, avoid, and outwit Shadows that pursue you relentlessly. It is easy to understand, but difficult to master: while the enemies behave predictably, in tandem they can easily box you in if you don’t think far enough ahead.

To preface this review, this game was offered to me via a newly created curator page I set up, “Psychology, Philosophy & Thought” (thought as in thought-provoking) so it’s worth mentioning first of all that I was offered a review copy and it was free to me. Although I won’t be reviewing it on the curator page due to me feeling like it doesn’t really fit on there, I thought I would write a review for it regardless.

Decent old school shoot-em-up. This is not “bullet hell”.

Collect gold as you progress so when you die you can spend it for upgrades.

The upgrades save as you play, so the more you grind for gold, the more upgrades you can earn and make yourself stronger.

Achievements are easy to collect, although once you have 13/13 and steam recognises you have 13/13 it still does not count the game as completed, even though it says it is completed.

The game does not show up as completed nor does it show in “games” list on profile.

For how cheap this game is it’s still gotta be one of my favorites. The shtick is hilarious (fourth-wall-breaking jokes are exactly my sense of humor so I guess it just clicked with me) and the puzzles are fun. I do wish the decision to add a female character option felt less like an afterthought (both the player character’s “AAAAAHHHH” voiceover and the dialogue referencing the player character’s gender seem to have been forgotten, which is almost more annoying than not having the option at all) but that’s the only thing I don’t like about it. Just super chill and goofy and I love it.

Before playing the actual “game”,reading through the instruction page on steam can add up to your experience in enjoying it somehow.

The game is a well-developed…mixed vegan stew, I guess. All puzzles and walking around and checking stuffs. There are NPCs telling you it sucks, and it truly sucks in a humor way after all to make the whole “piece” kind of a good game. Not for Bedford, as he was having a bad time there. I enjoyed it, and decided not to ask for refund to support the dev team a little bit, at least they can buy some soda(NO ALCOHOL) with a few dollars. Had a good time playing it and digging every dialogue and details. Thanks you guys, nice try in making a meta game.

Great Indie twin stick shooter, to me has a kind of DOS influence in some aspects which was cool and the game let me play it however I liked. There are some really moreish levels, also feels good when you get your cube set up just right. I feel like the dev put a lot of work into this.

Nepenthe

Nepenthe

Nepenthe is one of those games that you learn to appreciate the more time you spend with it. It’s There are 3 endings available and the overall game is rather short. But each ending is rather unique and you will definitely want to go back and replay to see the others.

There is dark humor, there is light humor, and there is goofiness in between, interlaced among the serious emotions of the developer hidden within the texts. The developer clearly put a lot of thought into the game and it shows from the snarky dialogue and environmental responses to the hand-drawn tiles. If nothing you can tell after playing that the developer had a lot of fun making this game. I am not saying that the dialogue or the tiles are outstanding, but they sure stand out in their own ways.

A short and intriguing rpg maker game that strives to be a bit more creative than other rpg maker titles. The title is filled to the brim with detail. Having played through the game a few times now I feel like there are still secrets that I am missing. There are three endings to discover which rely on choices you make throughout the game. The game will take you a little under two hours to clear so you can squeeze around six hours and than some discovering everything.
