东方栖霞园 ~ Blue devil in the Belvedere.
A fun, modern fangame based on the Touhou Project series. Similarly to Elegant Impermanence of Sakura, the previous work of the developers, there is a gimmick in this game too; the power overwhelming mechanic.
Regarding the mechanic, I feel using it during the stage portions makes the game a bit too forgiving. However, during the bosses it’s often the reverse. Activating the mechanic can make some of the nons/spell cards quite ridiculous, which is a fun challenge in of itself. This makes scoring in this game quite fun and challenging. One nitpick about the mechanic is that you can’t really opt out of it; misses are an automatic power overwhelming activation as long as you have bombs and max power. However, the game is designed around using the mechanic, so why one would want to play without it is beyond me. Regarding stage difficulty, it’s very linear, with the hardest parts being at the end of the game.

The latest fangame from 东方祈华梦制作组, their previous excellent fangame Eternal Impermanence of Sakura (from now on abbreviated as EIoS). Blue Devil in the Belvedere provides a more traditional Touhou experience (with power, point of collection)
The amount of gameplay and visual polish in this title is amazing. There are a lot of quality of life features to make it more enjoyable to play and help with visibility. Also present in this game is a health bar with numeric values, so you know exactly how well you’re doing during an attack. This health bar is visible for both spells and non-spells. The dialog and translation are vastly improved from their first game.

VolticPistol
Challenging and innovative platformer that keeps the play dynamic by giving you a hero with different strengths and weaknesses after every re-spawn. With different abilities and special power-ups, each new run will force the player to alter strategies accordingly. Gun and sword attack options and an aiming feature that improves shot accuracy give the player lots of options when battling enemies, though some enemies require specific attacks to defeat. Controls are precise and easy to learn. To top it off, the game has a wonderfully high-energy soundtrack.

This game boasts a range of weapons that all have more uses than you might originally think. Need to jump higher or farther do a sword dash. Need to clear a hall of turrets blast them with ricochet from your shotgun.
There are hidden power ups and keys hidden in some levels that make you want to explore just that bit more for the cutting edge to beat the next boss. Over all it is a charming and wonderful indie game with a lovey musical score to accompany it.

Knighty Night
Knighty Night is a fantastic game that can be completed within a few hours. The fascinating story that follows a brave night traversing through four different parts of a haunted land, fighting ghosts and the traps they set up to keep the knight from defeating the evil that plagues the area. Unlike many indie games that stick to a 2D style, this game takes full advantage of Unity by pushing 3D graphics, animations, and a birds eyes camera to follow the player. Not only does the game look beautiful, it sounds beautiful. Every sound in the game plays perfectly with what it is complimenting on screen. But if you like your game silent, this game has the ability to silence just the SFX, Music, or both if that’s what you’re into. Like the sound, this game has video settings that allows your game to be windowed, fullscreen, and different resolutions so no monitor will feel left out.

Penimorta
Penimorta is a delightfully charming yet challenging bullet-hell experience that is chock full of stellar sprite designs and thoughtful level design. The movement is fluid, controls easy to handle, and the presentation of the game itself is quite polished. I was incredibly pleased with Penimorta and would emphatically recommend it, although it had just one minor qualm which I will address later on in the review.
Let’s start with the sprite design. Penimorta’s enemies (and especially its bosses) were incredibly well animated and aesthetically pleasing. The overall quality of the artistic direction of this game is superb, and easily makes it stand out among other similar indie games. The mage (the second boss of the game) had one of the best designs in the game, notably because of how well his appearance changes accompanied his second phase. The enemy attack patterns never felt boring, and were rather refreshing due to the pleasant palate of colors selected for their pellets/bullets. I also appreciated the slight distinctions in color and shape for the enemy bullets as it helped make navigation and movement more refined.

This game is great, but the snake boss is the worst thing to happen to humanity. The entire game before the snake boss was easy, I only died around 3 times before it appeared. I hate the snake boss, please make the game more balanced.
Edit #1: Turns out that the warden (the final boss I think) is even worse than the snake. It has basically every negative affect, and for some reason there is a cage it randomly puts on you without any sign, the cage moves randomly too, damaging and blinding you whenever you touch it. I could keep on complaining but that would take a while. But please just balance the game, everything but the last 2 bosses is like 1/8 of the difficulty.

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

How do so many enemies and bullets fit into such a tiny (16 MB) download? This game may not be an ultimate masterpiece, but it’s a damn fine bullet hell shmups with tight controls, really fast bullets and challenging levels. Enemy variety is high, the bossfigts are well orchestrated, the pixel art is rather detailled, and of course the story is cheesy as hell. Capture the souls of your slain foes and transform them into monsters to fight with you. Although there are 3 difficulty settings, I already struggled to finish on the lowest - there are so many bullets on the screen, it is like HELL. Fortunately you unlock the 7 levels permanently and can restart from your last unfinished level.

MOM I NEED MORE QUARTERS! This game is fantastic, The game really is the whole package when it comes to a good arcade game, It has great music, Great art and solid gameplay! I have spent almost 3 hrs in it and still have 2 levels left to beat due to the challenging nature of old school shmups and bullet hells. I can promise you that if I saw this in an arcade, I would be feeding it my quarters! For the price of a beer and some quarters you can have a killer game with multiple modes and difficulty settings. Keep up the great work and cant wait to see what the future brings for this game!

A very good game, it has got everything you want in a game like this. It’s free, and if paying I could be able to play alone, it would be nice and a way to make me pay the people that made this game. All I can say is thank you, developers, I’d deffinetly pay to play a game like this with some more content. A coop version would be cool too. Imagine playing with your friends and killing bosses in a game like this.
Try this game, it’s free, you don’t loose anything. In my profile I haven’t played much, but I’ve played in my friend’s account and the game has 11 maps and everyone with its own different aspects. It has got some more power ups, the only problem is that you can’t change the buttons of the actions.

Dice Knight: Mystery of the Moirai
If you like D&D, dice & all that good stuff, definitely try this game out. It’s a very fun & fast paced combat adventure. I love the idea that currency, ammunition for your guns, damage, health, & even the difficulty options are all tied together into the dice. The world is full of humorous sites & dialogue. The interactive dialogue with NPCs is pretty great & it feels like the choices you make in talking with them actually matters. Overall a fantastic game.

Roguely
Roguely’s best strength is it’s simplicity. This is absolutely the kind of game you play while listening to a podcast, binge watching an episodic series, or vibing to an album on the side. It’s quick to pick up and jump into, and rewarding with it’s persistent upgrade system and achievements.
If you go into this game expecting something simple, fun, and easy to waste time on, you’ll be happy. Don’t expect any more than that. There’s no convoluted story, no mundane dialogue, and no cheap gameplay mechanics.

this game is the best thing to happen to me. it incorporates the difficulties we face in our daily lives, like the boss spamming fiery death 4 times in a row. it teaches us a valuable lesson in sacrifice and brotherhood. the game itself is poorly made, but that doesnot stop the mastermind behind it to convey a gruesome and unforgiving world he definetitely had in mind. in conclusion 10/10 basically dark souls.
