It’s time to get out from the solar system
This is an extremely low quality vertical scrolling arcade shootemup/bullet hell game. The objective is to fight through waves of enemies, perform limited ship upgrades, and eventually escape the solar system.
While the quality here is very low, the developer didn’t use retro pixel graphics, which makes this immediately better than thousands of games on Steam. The game runs properly in fullscreen and even supports 4K graphics, again better than thousands of games on Steam. The downsides, however, are significant. The graphics are of very low quality and bad to look at. The controls are lethargic and the ship moves like a slug. The translation is too terrible to make the story digestible. It’s just not fun. And what’s with the unskippable intro that replays when you die and goes on for an eternity?

Back in 2014 this was not the worst shoot em' up on steam for under 5$. It it still not the worst shoot em' up on steam in 2020. There is plenty of other shoot em' ups this generation for the same price. This game is lacking content compared to todays shoot em' up and this game is no longer being updated or supported. So if you are looking for e decently fun game for about this price, this is fine but keep looking they is alot more out there.

Vortex Attack: ボルテックスアタック
73 / 100
Being more of a retro throwback to the 8-bit arcade games, Vortex Attack (VA) does not bring much new to the genre, yet I found myself having quite a bit of fun challenging my high scores & pushing further through the levels. Leaning more on the easy side, getting through much of the game’s levels will not take a lot of time to conquer. Once you get the hang of things, powering through the main 50 levels may take you 30 mins, but getting a high scoring run is more challenging.

While this game is a great idea and has some good things going for it, there are some issues that do need to be fixed, particularly with UI and menus. When initially setting up for the first time, moreso when using a controller, the main menus are extremely hard to navigate and initial controller setup is much harder than it should be-it’s way too hard to see what you’re trying to select as the background keeps fading in/out and it randomly switches into and out of demo mode seemingly on it’s own, and the controls don’t feel as responsive as they should be. The gameplay itself generally is fine-think an attempt at mashing up Galaga & bullet hell shooters-but sometimes with a gamepad controls feel a bit too loose and could be tightened up a bit.

Vortex Attack EX
I’m sorry to the Developer for this review who is on my friend’s list as well (probably not for much longer) but I can no longer recommend this game.
I’m supposedly and apparently one of the best players of this game (according to the dev) and its predecessor so I don’t post this lightly. I currently have the number 4 best score on expert on the global score list registered back in January when the game was first released and number 1 on the previous version)I’ve sunk several hours into it. So why don’t I recommend it?

This is a preview of first impressions only as I have played only 1.8 hours.
What I can say now is that it is fun, very colorful, runs very smoothly and has a decent sound track too.
I only play single player, but that’s fine with this game. Glad I bought it, and anyone who likes a game with
some character to it, arcade style shooter with leader board and plenty of achievments is sure to like it.

Void Vikings
An interesting game… Recommended for a fans of twin-stick shooters looking for something a little different.
The core concept of paying back a student loan by pillaging local star systems is both unique and provides some tactical options. Should you pursue an expensive yet effective degree and struggle to pay back both the principal and interest, or settle for a cheap but shoddy education and focus on upgrades? Ultimately, you need both the education and the upgrades, but the premise disguises what would otherwise be a transparent grind.

Fun, polished little arcade wave space shooter with a couple of modes including a ‘diablo’ style randomised loot system, customisation, leader boards, and several distinct ships to fly.

DreadStar: The Quest for Revenge
DreadStar: The Quest for Revenge
Dreadstar is a classic arcade-style, top-down shooter, bringing in a great classic taste of arcade gaming with a modern touch.
With having played very few arcade shoot‘em ups, I was very excited to get into this game. Most arcade games that I have interacted with while growing up had a general idea of a plot/story arc associated with them, but nothing to elaborate on.

Classic arcade-style shoot-em-up games are rather challenging and rely on pattern-learning and proper execution. _DreadStar: The Quest for Revenge_ follows in suit with a few short levels and varied bosses to keep the game feeling rather fresh at every point. Three different difficulty options are available for each stage, progressively unlocked. The game does give a bit more leniency from the traditional shoot-em-up game with its leveling-up system and purchasable ship-modifications that are sometimes needed to get the player over the hump.
