Prologue for a Vacant Kingdom

Prologue for a Vacant Kingdom

This game completely caught me by surprise. Looking around steam for the fun of it, and while in the bullet hell genre, stumbled upon this (seemingly) hidden gem. Really glad I found it too, especially with it being a free demo currently.

Runs smooth (will 100% revisit when I have access to better way of playing it), core gameplay itself is good, liked the few characters currently available to meet, simple but satisfying puzzles, well placed secrets, and the humor was absolutely on point. Bosses are really nice, especially the last/hidden one. Music is enjoyable and adds to the game further. Balances danmaku and RPG aspects much better than I expected for, again, what it currently is. Being a demo for a game in development, it’s a bit on the short side, but it’s to be expected with it being a demo. If you’re reading this and have not downloaded it, as mentioned, it is completely free and astonishingly small, making it super easy to quickly play with the nonexistent download time.

So I really enjoyed the game the dialogue between characters is funny the game plays super smoothly and it’s story is interesting can’t wait to see the full release. The difficulty is legit too I beat everything on hard minus the last boss the bouncing mechanic plus not being able to see the full floor without dragging the camera down running into bullets you can’t barely see was too much and frustrating for me props to the people who get it though I had to do it on easy. The Puzzle was way too much for me as well had to knock that down in difficulty my full play through with commentary here! https://youtu.be/h3z-x7ptL3w

There are not so many people around knowing what the oscilloscope is. Even less are numbers of those who can get it working, and the fewest are those who can run the games like “Echoes classic” on their oscilloscope screens. So, it is really geeky stuff we’re talking about.

Now, just like the other game from the same developer, Echoes+ is a very narrow-focused project, made for people who love 2d twin-stick shooters like they were in the 80’s. You just thrash about in some locked screen, shooting and dodging, dodging and shooting. I do hate such rigid gameplay, but, that was not the case for the downvote. After all, it is a freeware game, fairly made and well described on the store. If someone don’t get it… he can just drop it and live long after, right?

A classic twin stick shooter with pumping soundtrack, lots of fresh colour and things wot go boom. Very enjoyable to play with its many different modes, but local and global leaderboards (no friends leaderboards sadly!) as well as an ingame achievement system add extra urge to keep trying again, and again, and again.

Those sensitive to screen flashes may want to be a little careful with this one or play in shorter sesions. Plays well with mouse+keys or a controller.

All in all a well crafted shooty game that’s miles better than the majority of tosh that gets thrown on Steam these days and well worth your money. Wait.. It’s free? Cool !

The gameplay feels like an actual arcade Shmup. I also like the Mechanics of this game too. The graphics aren’t the best in the world but the gameplay is very good. I can see a mix of multiple games built into this game.

It’s your basic Galaga or Galaxian clone. Don’t care much for the music, but it satisfies my arcade shooter itch besides. The fact that the cannons on the orange ship sprites actually aim at your ship is a nice touch.

The bullshit “boost” menu at the beginning is just annoying. You literally have to take the fire rate upgrade or you wont make it past level one. Don’t worry though because level 2 is such a ramp up, it feels like you’re going to level 5. Not to mention the annoying drop rates. They’re so inconsistant, you could go through level one and not see a thing the entire time but next time you load up a new game, you get 5 attachments immediately. So, honestly, the game isn’t difficult, it’s just really fuckin broken.

Apparently this one was originally developed as a Japan-only side attraction to “Infinite Combate”, another game based on the same anime (which, for the record, I know next to nothing about), but is now playable on its own for free; as you’d probably expect it’s a short trip and has no story to speak of, but not too shabby a distraction otherwise.

Your lady knight main character has a standard shot and a powerful piercing wave which can nullify enemy bullets but needs time to recharge; moreover, at the beginning you select two out of five assist characters which act as auto-firing “options”, though you can only deploy one at a time. Your active companion also determines the effect of your limited-use smart bombs when you let them rip.

With the current build of this game it is uncompletable because of two major glitchs/game breaking bugs

#1 some enemys stand still and can not be attacked

#2 some rooms stay locked after all the enemies are gone

Welp, I did beat it… But I would not recommend other people following in my footsteps. If you want more of my thoughts and to watch the final boss fight, check out my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOpKxw5XRGk

The procedural generation resulted in very frustrating level traversal and the combat never gets any more interesting than it is in the tutorial. Overall, I’d advise spending your time on better games but this was by no means a complete disaster of a game. It just feels unfinished and in dire need of iteration.

SWARMRIDERS

SWARMRIDERS

An extremely simple yet difficult twin stick shooter that starts and ends with intensity. You’re an unamed person riding on a flying motorbike firing backwards into an endless swarm of what appears to be pink lit alien spaceships. You don’t seem to have a destination seeing as you never really look forward to see where you’re going and kind of just speed into an endless abyss of black, the only colors being your bike, your bullets, and the swarm’s pink lights. What are they? Who are they? What do they want? Whatever the case may be, it’s all irrelevant as they ALL want you dead. Your goal is to obviously shoot as much of them as you can and avoid running into them. There’s only one game mode which is as you guessed it: Endless mode. But even with just one gamemode, it’s quite the blast.

Awesome and very highly paced game with head banging music to boot.

Looks like an easy game " RIGHT"

Ah don’t be fooled LOL, 1st 2 Ach’s quite easy to nail,

then you need to hit the 120 and 150 sec mark to get the last two :D

I had a bit of a time obtaining the 120s mark and was thrilled when I got it.

Had to stop playing a bit, because the game was driving me crazy in a pleasant way :D

Went back to it in the right mindset and finally cracked the 150s barrier that I so desperately wanted to do :D

Great F2P game, very good game feel and enjoyable from start to finish.

Only 3 levels, counting the tutorial, but they are long and complex, with multiple choices to increase replayability.

The boss is really hard, but doable, and after only 2 tries I’ve beat the game. I’ll wait for more levels and options, but I’ll keep playing to increase my highscore!!!
