Visuals are crisp and clear, game design is very intentional. Sense of space in this game is a bit more open that traditional decent clones, and level designs offer unique combat encounter which will always challenge the player while offering opportunities to innovate tactically. If you are not a fan of the neon aesthetic or feel like the graphics are too simplistic, don’t let that dissuade you. Heck of a lot of fun to play with a HOSAS setup.

Shoot your way through a neon maze filled with hostile drones and battle robot bosses with cool weapons. It’s highly addictive and after each completed stage I was thinking one more! Catchy music too.

Kromaia

Kromaia

I’ve been a beta tester for this game ever since November 2013, when the game was in it’s Indiegogo campaign.

I can’t stress enough how wonderful this game is! The developers are two very different people, yet they’ve found a way to merge arcade-like shooting and action with mythological-style storytelling. I would describe the game as a bit of a combination of three games:

1. Galaga

2. Descent

3, Shadow of the Colossus

Why? Because it has the waves of bug-like enemies and shooting of Galaga, the six-degrees-of-freedom of Descent, and grand bosses that factor as the main villains like Shadow of the Colossus did.

Greeted by the strange embodiment of what seems to be the ‘Mother’ figure of an alternate world tinted in neon colors, who has had everything but her thoughts taken by the cruel rulers of this place. You are given a simple task; seek vengeance on the four obscure gods of this alien realm and create chaos in the cosmos!

Kromaia has the fluidity and freedom of a 6DoF shooter like Descent or Terminal Velocity, a beautifully strange and otherworldly setting like Rez, the score-chasing arcade high of a classic rail-shooter like Galaxy Force II, all with incredibly creative and wildly original enemy ship designs unseen since the forgotten PSX gem Omega Boost. It doesn’t just use these already perfected mechanics we’ve come to know and love over the past decades, it pushes them to the limits of modern gaming with dazzlingly bright and bloom-y effects intertwined with extraordinary physics at breakneck speeds.

Shooty Skies Overdrive

The VR version of the free2play title. There is so much colour! And so many things to unlock! VR really helps the mechanics shine as you feel like a kid playing with a toy aeroplane! Absolute Insanity!

Have you ever pretended your hand is a plane/spaceship and zoomed it around going “pew! pew!” blowing up bad guys? Ever play a “bullet hell” game and thought it might be cool in full VR? Shooty Skies Overdrive let’s you play pretend again, and shows just how cool it can be. There are Power Ups to give your off-hand things to do (with full right/left handed support) and difficulty levels that live up to the name “Overdrive.” Progression, checkpoints and gameplay unlocks help keep things fresh, and let’s you tweak numbers to get the Power Ups you prefer. Nothing hugely sophisticated, but varied and hectic enough to keep me coming back for more. Bright but low-fi graphics means it runs like silk, even with a million bullets in your face.

Twos hands two guns!

Pistol Dancer is a shoot’em up style rhythmic FPS. Initially, it’s a home-collaboration kind of project developed for my daughter to get her interested in VR but it’s gradually evolved into a casual/party game that many of us enjoyed with.

Press the trigger alongside music beats to unleash devastating power to the enemies.

Your enemies are little virus bits trying to reach the heart, and you are the last line of defence!

This is an amazing game that makes you feel so powerful. At first I was a little confused about what was happening, but i quickly go on and had lots of fun. The style of the game is just so amazing. I will be playing this game a lot and have fun doing it. It would be nice to see a power up that is a trap that you can put down, and if the bad ships hit it they blow up.

Excellent performance, medium lenght storyline (~4hs) excellent voice acting, audio and fun gameplay.

This game feels like it has great production value all around, the coop is very easy to host and join games (no mid level joining though)

I played this game a couple of times with my son in coop and its been a blast, the mechanics are simple, but they mix them up a bit to keep things interesting… As the enemies are robots, there is no blood and although violent, id say its family friendly.

BUT the game does feel a bit on the “simple” side, and does get a bit repetitive, in my opinion because you are forced to use the same weapon the whole level. (you choose before starting) The weapons are fun but would have loved the ability to mix it up mid level. and they are all similar, so there is no variation there.

Classic Halo-esque style combat! And it’s Co-op! Very easy to get into VR FPS shooter, think Halo meets Space Pirate Trainer. 9 Levels of Non-Stop Action that ramp up to a variety of different enemy types that require different strategies to defeat without dying (especially if you go at it alone during the last few levels!). Although the gameplay is simple, the player is rewarded for doing more than just point and shoot combat. You get health and surge/power ups by tactically using your whip to pull enemies apart. Kill them and miss a chance at a higher probability of getting a much needed health regeneration vial or that last yellow vial needed to release your powerful “Surge” attack and feel like an invulnerable bad-ass for a few moments. Took about 5 hours to complete alone, could probably finish it in 3 with a partner in Co-op mode. The only thing that could use work is adding the option to have controller directed movement, instead of only headset facing.
