Great take on the original, but could be much better

I played the original game when it first came out. I still remember playing it as a teenager. I loved that game, I played it so many times across many years.

Even after uninstalling, if I come across it again I will play it again. That’s how good it was. It was funny, it was logical, it was quirky, it had mod support and overall entertaining.

When Evil Genius 2 came out, I was super excited to play it again as I thought it would be much better than the original but it was missing a few vital quirks that would’ve made it better.

Jurassic World Evolution 2

I was going to wait till after christmas to see if this was going to get better, but with down right frustrating stuff going on here, nah this needs to be done now. This is abysmally annoying compared to the first.

I’ll start off with the pros:

Paleobotany is now a part of paddock building itself, very welcome very nice. Good step up.

Automation on the park vehicles is a lot better now… for the most part.

Slightly bigger maps, though it may not seem like it where 1’s were stretched out into long thin lines, these are all most compact and lumpy.

Overall I recommend this game with an asterisk which I will go into a bit.

Mechanically, the game is an overall improvement on a base level from the previous game, at least as far as the core functions of the dinosaurs, park building, and pinning down what your guests need to get a five star park is. Makes it a lot more engaging then simply plopping down a hotel, arcade, clothes shop and restuarant near every viewing gallery. Guests wants are communicated slightly better and paths, shelters, etc. make even a bare bones five star challenge park look like a beautiful well done theme park in contrast to previous games where its a mess of buildings and hotels huddled in one place to artificially inflate a rating with a big multisectioned square of fences with nothing but diplos and dilophos in them.

The Bonfire 2: Uncharted Shores

The Bonfire 2: Uncharted Shores

This game is a 5/10. Medicore gameplay and Poorly designed user interface.

The game basically plays like one of those mobile or browser games that disguises itself as a village building game with buildings being all on rails and fixed. It gives you freedom to place your buildings anywhere but like those mobile games that have “fixed slots” for X buildings only you will realize there isn’t much strategy here. Ever play those mobile games that start off forcing you to click here build this mission with this X quest completes and it gives you rewards. It hand holds you through the various buildings.

I played the first game, “The Bonfire: Forsaken Lands”, and I loved it, I was expecting this game to be a follow up of it, something to carry on the story, expand the world and add to the characters backgrounds. However, this game does not do that, it’s more or less the same but changed game mechanics, plus, you’re no longer present in the story. The game feels incomplete, even though it says it has updates yet to give, I bought a game and I expect the game to be complete, sorry for sounding harsh, I really wanted to look at this game like I did with the first, but I cannot see this to be as good as the first.

I tried it out. I think it is a fun little game. I love games like this but, As of now there really isn’t enough direction I guess. Cant turn the music off, the mouse pointer covers up the description of the parts you need to put down. just small things. But I did refund but will keep my eye on this game for updates and improvements. I think if they work on it, it could be a really good game.

Secrets of Magic 2: Witches and Wizards

Secrets of Magic 2: Witches and Wizards

“Secrets of Magic 2: Witches and Wizards” is a fun little Match 3 casual game. It took me 14.6 hours to complete it with all Achievements. Since the list price is just about $10 (and I bought it for about $5), it’s definitely worth the money (I’m recommending it). I only have a couple of minor nits with it. First, even though the tutorial explains just about everything, it didn’t mention the flask and explosive “tiles” (easily figured out). And, second, even though I got the full 3 stars on level 99 (there are 100 total levels), it only recorded that as 1 star. So, after finishing the game, I didn’t get the “All Stars” Achievement. Looking at the in-game Achievement area showed I was short 3 stars (297/300 – which is odd, since with the recorded 1 star on that level, I should have had 298/300). I re-did the level (getting all 3 stars) and this time, it recorded as such (and I got the Achievement). Other than that, no issues at all. A nice, enjoyable game.

Game Tycoon 2

Game Tycoon 2

  • First of all, this is not a Game Dev Tycoon! These two games may share similar topic, but the concepts are different. *

I’m recommending this game, because I enjoyed both first and second game in series, and there are only few games of this genre available. Sure, it has it’s pros and cons, but I think that true fans will find a way to enjoy it.

The game it self may be clunky, with not so sharp graphics, but underneath it is a true tycoon game. Tutorials may be better, but at the end it is us who needs to discover the whole game (yes, game developers wanted to be mysterious).

Not a bad game, but, frankly, it fails to reach the “standard” quality of the genre,

If you want to check, I own the majority of the “game development” games on Steam (and also some “small” non-Steam productions).

I have put this game at the end of the list and I’m really sorry to say this.

The main problems are:

  • there is a good tutorial, but this doesn’t help to understand how a game… sell! There is a strange feedback system that helps very little (there is a quality rating and a “professional” rating: this could work, but, at the end, only makes you create the best games on the market and see them selling very little…)

Sheltered 2

Sheltered 2

There is a good game waiting to happen here but right now it is still a product that should be in Early Access.

There are TONS of bugs and features that simply don’t function well and the game balance is pretty much non-existent as it stands.

Bug example:

Your Shelter (which you have painstakingly expanded and built onto) is breached or invaded. You use the very rudimentary control scheme to position your survivors right in front of the door as they are cutting through, ready for COMBAT!!!! Then, nothing as the collision detection fails utterly and every invader literally clips through your survivors to go on and loot whatever they want.

Hooked on this game for a while. Plenty of bugs back then. But a lot of issues have been fixed, although there’s still few remains but worry not, they always working on the game! Beginning part of the game has always been fun to me, as you get used to it. its get easier later unless you are playing on harder diff cause breaches could be brutal if you aren’t careful enough. Overall, pretty chill game to spend few hours in!
