Operation: VICUS

Operation: VICUS

There is only you, the chosen one who rules over the village. You have to find out what the strange notes are about, where do they come from and what do they want to tell you? Besides, with your actions you will strengthen or weaken your relationship with your inhabitants. Make tough decisions that will haunt you longer than you might think. Expand your village to accommodate more inhabitants and explore new things in the laboratory, be it weapons, buildings and much more. However, you’ll have to stay alert, because you’ll be haunted by insidious beasts that would love to destroy your village. So you must train your troops and lead them into battle!

Build your village

With the help of your mines, the ores extracted from there will be processed by your blacksmith and in combination with the wood of the forester, great things can be built, such as new habitable houses, attractions for the inhabitants or yet barracks and defensive guns. With the help of your laboratory you can improve your buildings and make them more robust or you can have new, better buildings researched, which you can then use in your village!

Satisfaction

If you want to work your way forward, it is of great importance to take care of your villagers. You need to monitor their happiness, either the overall happiness of your village or the happiness of the individual citizens. If the villagers are in a bad mood, you need to get to the bottom of it and, if necessary, fix the problems that cause it using the Satisfaction menu or the information provided by the individual citizens. But if you neglect their feelings, you have to expect deterioration in your production and further problems!

Day management

The daily schedule of the villagers is determined by you alone. You can determine the schedule of each citizen: You can make them work longer hours to boost your production, give them more free time or alternatively let them decide what they want to do. However, you must never forget that your actions affect the mood of each citizen, and their moods add up to determine the satisfaction level of your village. So make sure that the inhabitants have nothing to complain about!

Low Poly Artstyle

Dive into the world of the unique Low Poly Artstyle and experience relaxed atmospheres in the morning or mysterious mood in the evening. The interplay between the cartoon-like animations and the beautiful low poly look creates beautiful moments. The music, reminiscent of No Mans Sky in places, creates a great ambience with its style that always fits the situation.

Combat and defense

Upgrade your town with barracks and guns to defend against the invaders! Upgrade your barracks to get better and stronger troops. Decide which strategy you want to follow, fight with weaker but more troops or less but stronger? And better to finish everything in close combat or to finish the enemy from a distance? Or both? You decide and lead your warriors into battle and decide still in battle which targets your troops should attack and how many of your soldiers should pursue this target!

Story

Find out what the strange notes are all about! Make tough decisions and try to understand what this village is all about!

Fort Meow

Fort Meow

The goal of the game is simple: You have to build an catproof pillow fort to be able to read a book in the attic.

The thing is there is more than meet the eyes at first and the story behind the situation is certainly one of the cutest I read. I won’t spoil it because it’s part of what makes this game so nice and there is nothing better than letting yourself being surprised by the reason why there are so many lap obsessed cat in the house.

I’m playing that game in the background when I’m doing something else (aka discussing with people, doing a quest on a MMO or roleplaying) and it’s exactly the sort of game you can enjoy by focusing fully on it or doing something else at the same time. You have as much time as you want to prepare your defense against the catlaps, so taking break to do something else is 100% possible.

Fort Meow is a somewhat short physics based pillowfort simulator. In this game you follow Nia as she unravels the secrets of her grandparents sudden disappearance and why there are so many cats around…And why they’re so clingy!

You begin the game building a basic fortress from chairs and brooms, and eventually you have an entire house worth of furniture in there, all ready to ward off the cats who keep trying to interupt your quest to figure out what Nia’s grandpa wrote in his journal the days shortly before this all.

Wasn’t what I was expecting, but it’s not too bad and can be addicting. Works on Triple Screen.

A fairly standard match-3 game, but with nice music and really good graphics in the cut scenes where you get to find things. I think it’s good for younger players as well as those looking for an easy time waster. The rewards are nice, and come frequently enough to be satisfying.

Scrapnaut

Scrapnaut

Very interesting game, it got me up until content ending. As an unfinished product it’s perfectly understandable that a lot of work is needed to make it a polished jewel.

For now, I can say it’s fun and beautiful, no bugs seen during my gameplay, and it’s visible that devs are careful and partners of players. I hope that it keep going like that and next time I play it will develop from very good to fantastic.

My tips for devs are:

  • You could vary terrain height to make it more visually interesting.

This game is similar to Mystika 3 but not the same. It is more like a game update or enhancement and has different spells than the 3rd installment. I enjoyed both games and highly recommend Mystika 4: Dark Omens.

The Pedestrian

The Pedestrian

Anything But

When I think about ‘hobby games’ like Destiny 2 or bottomless time sinks like AC Odyssey, I can only think of how much people are missing. It’s a privileged take, granted. People want value per hour out of economic pressures on top of a melange of other reasons. Only, The Pedestrian reminds me that in a perfect world we could all have the spice of life of twenty five short experiences that last longer in an altogether more meaningful way than a monster corporate product ever could. Media that doesn’t monopolise your time, but delivers a quick, sharp shock of everything you could want of entertainment as a means of adding value to your life.

Real player with 10.0 hrs in game

The Pedestrian is a relatively short, but fun puzzle platformer. You are a character from one of those flashing ‘walk’ signs. You connect signs, and use your little pedestrian to solve various puzzles. The puzzles are quite unique. As for difficulty level, I’ve played lots of puzzle games, and I’d say this is a medium difficulty puzzle game overall. I found the puzzles satisfying and there were a couple of times I really had to stop and think about things to solve them. The game rewards you for patience in the puzzle solving not rushing. The learning curve on the puzzles is not bad, although there was one concept/mechanic that took me a bit to grasp and felt significantly more difficult than the others. As you complete the puzzles you move across different areas of a city. The game shines aesthetically as the surroundings as you travel the city the surroundings are nothing short of beautiful. There are different tracks of music as you go through the city, and they evoke a sort of peaceful feeling. There is a story inside the game, but I am not sure I understood the whole thing, and after talking with one of the developers the story is left up to some interpretation of the player. Without spoiling anything I will simply say the last half hour or so of the game is a culmination of your work throughout the game and really is something special that tells you a lot about the story.

Wanderers

Embark on a journey through a mysterious alien solar system and uncover its dark secrets.

Wanderers is a sandbox game set in a blocky, procedurally generated world. You start with nothing and to survive you must fasten weapons, craft tools, hunt for food and build shelter.

As you explore you discover a strange corruption infecting the world. To defeat this mysterious enemy, you are going to need to venture out into space.

You will need to mine resources, create alloys, build machines, generate electricity and refine fuel to build your very own spaceship to venture out into the void.

KHIO

KHIO

The game is fun in between various glitches, crashes, lag, etc.

It is really a fun game with a lot of content, good art, and more, but problems like I have listed above make it frustrating to play, because it could ruin your entire save. The Devs have also abandoned the game, so I don’t believe any of these will be fixed.

Real player with 8.4 hrs in game

  • In english:

KHIO is to me a new kind of game: pixel art mixed with kind of 3D… Even if the sprites are in 2D, you can totally turn the camera 360°.

I’m not gonna tell you the plot, as it’s pretty obviously done on the store page.

The game interface is minimal and actually blends into the scenery (maybe a bit too much sometimes, but the devs are sorting this out, improving its lisibility).

Here, we’re not hand held: you’ll have to experiment, die, and finally figure things out before evolving with more ease.
